Maybe for next yearβs presser
CJF could time a big signing while the media are all assembled. π

I grew up on soccer and never had such breaks. However,
if this really was an issue, players could venture to the sideline for a Dixie cup like marathon runners do.

So when are we going to see hydration breaks in the NBA? π
People get your liquids when youβre subbed out for crying out loud.
Soccer already has a perception issue in the US with players flopping. These ββbreaksβ arenβt helping any.

I think what happened to me recently that confuses me
was that I posted the initial news of the firing, and that got deleted seemingly because some of the comments in response had political undertones to them.
I deliberately avoid bringing in my personal opinions, particularly since moving half way across the country.

Step one was to put us near the top of the ACC in spending
to give us a reasonable shot at making the CFP, as well as to improve the ACCβs image and ratings heading into the critical GOR expiration and TV package windows.

Agreed. VT should only be concerned about the things
that can be controlled. Even the AAU membership seems like an arbitrary milestone. While achieving their metrics is beneficial, an invitation may not immediately follow.

With the ACC going to unbalanced payouts
Buzz about the program leading to increased viewership and better bowl pairings/CFP appearances will bring in more conference revenue to VT, and pull funds from other possible P2 targets. Both will help VTβs chances of being invited (assuming of course that there is such a thing when that time comes).

Donβt forget that CJF has a strict pay scale
If the young manβs expectations were too high, there would be no point in going to the trouble of having him for an OV.

βVenturesβ is very appropriate. Still, hang onto that
Sandman Society moniker for a future group of headhunting linebackers!

Will, why did you delete my post? I didnβt violate your rules
I understand some folks may have made snarky replies. I canβt help what other people say.

To her
Sorry for the confusion.
I find it humorous that anyone thinks Iβm injecting any kind of reaction into my post, other than dismay about the disruption at this juncture. He was a hugely important figure in the paradigm shift weβre experiencing.
Iβm simply stating facts.

Itβs all about eyeballs. UM making the championship game
helps. Creating compelling conference matchups and competitive non conference games is whatβs needed.

Can we cantilever over the access road?
Can also flare the wings on the end zones, which would be better for viewing angles.

It was thoroughly enjoyable. Will, please ask him about
crafting individual blitzes for everyone. I think that I would eat that up as a player.
What gave rise to doing it?
How did they go about crafting and installing it?
Did everyone get to practice their blitz play even if they had no shot to get it called in a game?
What were the results like by the end of the year?
Would you try it again in todayβs environment?

FWIW, he helped keep us relevant in a number of ways
Iβm not really a fan, but need to point out some things worth noting about his tenureβ¦
* his stint as chairman of the D1 Board of Directors gave us an outsized voice inside the NCAA.
* he greatly moved the ball relative to AAU status metrics, and no doubt had many networking opportunities with B1G schools to keep us in the conversation as a possible expansion candidate. He plans to stay in Blacksburg in retirement, and may be an ongoing conduit for further dialogues.
* he increased our presence in NoVA and corporate partnerships.
* undergraduate enrollment increased by 30%, which will have a significant impact on athletics revenue going forward.
In short, we shouldnβt be so harsh with our criticisms.

Iβm not married to an arena district. If the town is now
anti growth, it makes little sense. What is undeniable is that Cassell, as venerable as it is, wonβt work relative to our peers financially.
Men's Basketball Board

Bottom line
Replacing Cassell is an undeniable need and has to be pursued within the context of overall facility upgrades for athletics. VT should take a page from BU and other programs and open up talks with the town about an arena district featuring an arena that would serve different functions.

So is Cassell untenable economically in the new reality?
Look at the Foster Pavilion at BU. Itβs smaller, but it has the suites revenue. Itβs in downtown. Itβs set up for TV; and itβs much louder.
More than that, what else could be done with the space where Cassell is now?

Say what you will but
I think itβs pretty unfair to fire a coach who is doing a decent job just after the BOV approved greatly enhancing the athletic departmentβs budget. He needs to be able to buy all the groceries before you judge his cooking.
Football Board

Yes, it is actually
Do a head to head comparison across the two conferences.
Thereβs no disputing that the B1G is the nationβs winter weather conference.
Football Board
6 mo ago
Think of who else is in the B1G and itβs no contest
The sheer number of cold weather stadiums youβd have to play in every year vs. the ACC and itβs no contest.

The question I would ask CJF at his first podcast visit
I presume that TSL is trying to line up a sit down with James Franklin now that the staff and roster are set. People are already opining about what the new offense is going to look like. What id like to know is how much folks will be able to game plan VT in 2026 by looking at old PSU game film (and, in contrast, if that can be used against them).
He did say already that PSU was built more for bad weather production. Despite current conditions in the Burg, this isnβt as much of a concern in the ACC as it is in the B1G.

Honestly Iβm just fatigued with all of them
Not wanting to see IU repeat either. Need new blood AND a non P2 to win.

Regardless of the outcome, can we all agree
that itβs a very good thing that this game does NOT include OSU, McChicken, Bama, UGa, or ND?

Well one had a concussion and the other a calf injury
So I guess they opted to get injured. Is that what you meant?

I think there was some hesitation among the portal QBs
to sign because they are comparing their arrangements among themselves. Things should wind down now with the window closing and the valuations pretty much set.

Measuring the delta should be relevant
Attracting a good class is both more difficult and more impactful for a previously less regarded program.
I do get the point though about how a great class can be obscured if the paradigm is excellence already. I get it, but am not really sympathetic (yet).
Football Board

Hereβs the thought running through my head about this
As good as this class is, imagine how good the Year 2 class is likely to be when CJF has a full staff and a full year on the job!

To be fair, whatβs IUβs class ranked this preseason?
If we have enough βJimmys and Joesβ we have a puncherβs chance of making the playoffs and making a run. Unless the paradigm shifts, that should be the expectation.

I recall CJF saying he would likely be portal heavy in Year One
but not as much going forward. That says heβs building a program that will not be reshuffled every year, which of course will be key for establishing a culture and strong sense of accountability. To do that, he wonβt be bringing in a bunch of one and done guys.

We should want ALL the upper division ACC schools to step up
and of course that starts with us. I would put NCSU and Thug U in that mix over CU and F$U because of the lawsuit fallout. Still, more programs stepping up is what the ACC needs for compelling TV matchups, CFP and bowl participation, league stability and so many other reasons.
