Not technically to their βstaffβ but he will be a draft analyst of
some type. Iβd imagine working remotely, maybe going out to LA a time or two

Wonder if the ACC would actually look at or invite
another west coast school to be another player/partner for Cal-Stanford? π€·πΌββοΈ
Of course ESPN would once again have to bless the move! Hypothetically, if you could choose just one more school from out west, who would you go after? Preferably a new state? Would tv market be the biggest factor? School location? School size/enrollment/fan base? Football first mentality? Maybe someone in the B12 would jump ship?
UNLV?
Nevada?
Utah (if they would come)?
Boise State?
New Mexico (would they bring anything $$$ to the table)?

π Oh, the double dribble caused by the
foul by grabbing Jerome! Ya, guess the ref missed that as well.

hahaha, Nope....no violins here....I'll be content with
yearly top 4 finishes in the ACC and yearly 20+ wins! Oh....and a National Championship!

Look no further
FT's have been our nemesis all year, knew it would bite us eventually. Still love having one of the top coaches in the nation leading the Hoos. It's always more than about the great W/L records or championships, conference or national coach of the year awards (which he has accomplished just about everything in his coaching career) but about developing kids into men. CTB is one of the most respected in all of college basketball...even respected in the professional ranks...so glad he is still here leading, developing, building and winning. Hope he continues here for another 10-15 years! He's a system coach. You get the right kids to buy in and we've seen what can happen! 359 wins at UVA! He's turned down salary increases a couple of times (to get his assistants more $$$). Stand up man who does things the right way, while so many others in the business cheat and try to weasel their way to the top of the mountain.
I think UVA has done enough to get into the NCAAT, but we won't really know until tomorrow evening...if not, we'll try to make a run at an NIT title.
As has been said before by coach "never let the highs get too high nor let the lows be too low"!

Feeling is mutual just because it's rivalry talk. We don't care for each
others sports teams BUT....my daughter got her degree from VT and is currently in her 2nd year of Veterinary Medicine there as well. I respect the academics of the school but it's fun to continue the banter and dislike on each schools sports programs!
No harm, it's all in good fun!

Yes, Uva is dirty. Get a life!
Donβt you think if they were dirty they would have tried to do something earlier in the game. Good grief

Ageed! Let the other 100 or so FBS schools continue on with the NCAA and
student-athlete model. Not interested in the P2. Go ahead and get it over with and leave!

To hell with the B1G and SEC. Let them leave so everyone else
can enjoy what college football used to be and once was.

Question about all this mess going forward....if a court says the GOR
is not enforceable or invalid (FSU/ACC), does this open up lawsuits from schools in other conferences? Probably not those in the P2 because of the amount each school will be receiving from the media deals is so large.....BUT....does that also open the gates of relegation of schools that aren't carrying their weight for these P2 conferences (Vandy, Northwesern, Wake, etc)?

What is likely to happen is when the B12 is up for tv negotiations again,
WV, Cincinnati, Tulane, Uconn, Memphis will join the ACC. FSU, Clemson and UNC all realize the ACC isn't all that bad once ND finally joins! Might also add 1 or 2 more West Coast schools to form a working pod of 6
West pod of 6 (Stanford, Cal, Oregon St, Wash St, SMU, Tulane).
Mid-America pod of 6 (Memphis, Louisville, WV, Cincy, Pitt, VT).
Private school pod of 6 (Syracuse, BC, Wake, Duke, Miami, ND).
Mid-Atlantic pod of 6 (Uconn, UNC, UVA, NC State, FSU, GT)
....maybe swap VT and Uconn to keep VT in the mid-atlantic pod

Adding more teams to the B12 just decreases each schools annual amount
they get from the network contracts. The teams they have been adding don't really add much value, do they? Monetary value that is? What kind of tv deal would they conceivably receive when it's time to renegotiate if they have 17, 18 or 20 teams? Per school amount would probably not increase I wouldn't think. There aren't any "big names" left to add?

....AND why would the B1G go after Clemson (state of SC) first before
trying to enter the tv markets in Virginia/North Carolina/Florida/Georgia? Much bigger populations and revenue streams in those states!
Nothing is happening unless one of these schools has a few billionaires ready to drop the necessary exit fees for said schools to move

Have to wonder if maybe there are plans to add another couple
of Western schools or another Texas school (or maybe Tulane in LA) just to get some sort of west/central pod. To give travel partners to those newly admitted. OSU and WSU might be all that is left to grab!

As a Hoo fan.....damn you guys got a good one in Fontel ! Wish Tony E
would have given Mines a call prior to coach Pry. I loved watching him as a receiver for us during Grohs early years

My question is how the hell does the payout for B12 teams = the amount
that ACC teams receive...especially without a conference network? Was it mostly based on tv viewership in regards to Texas and Oklahoma? Shouldn't those numbers drop significantly once those two schools go to the SEC? The teams the B12 brought in don't really move the numbers up drastically do they? And the ACC should be receiving more per team just because we do have the ACCN. Am I wrong or missing some vital information?

I just don't think adding 2 west coast schools is enough unfortunately. If
only there would have been proactive ACC leadership, when it was needed months ago, the ACC could have probably gotten Arizona, Arizona St and Utah (or 1 Arizona school, Utah and Colorado)...instead of them going to the B12! This would have been a decent pod of western teams and helped them (and ACC schools) with the travel nightmare that looms ahead for all involved! Adding a Texas school like SMU is a good idea....BUT again....where was ACC leadership when other higher profile Texas schools were available? It's completely infuriating to have inept leaders running this conference!

Does anyone else feel that the SEC doesn't really want/need
FSU or Clemson? The SEC already has both of those states in the fold. Do FSU or Clemson really bring any more $$$$ to the SEC? If so, is it enough money to increase payouts to each SEC school? I get adding them for rivalries....but there would not be any new cable or carriage fees the SEC would gain. Am I wrong on that?
Whereas the B1G would be adding new states to their networks. I see more of FSU and Clemson being a bigger want for the B1G.....now the states of VA and NC.....those of course are new states to each of those conferences!

Not as long as they are under contract with the ACC....the deal for ND to
join the ACC for all other sports included that if ND needed a place for the football program, then it would have to be they join the ACC for that as well. At least that is what has been reported for a number of years. Now, are they bound legally, who knows? If so, can they break that with a huge fee?

I really hope this isn't serious! If that's the damn situation, why
the hell wouldn't they have done this when the opportunity to add Oregon and Washington was there? Then you could have had a West pod of schools...Ugghhh, the ACC leadership is completely jocular!

I would think one of FSU or Miami will end up in the B1G...as long as
the B1G wants into the Florida market

Looking more and more like there will eventually be 3 Power conferences....
and the ACC will not be one of those! Hopefully when the ACC does start to implode, the magnificent 7or 8 or whatever find a home in one of those P3 (BIG, SEC and now the B12). Amazing how the B12 has somewhat resurrected their conference with some nice (not overwhelmingly great) schools and might be adding a number more from the former PACwhatever! The B12 might end up overtaking the ACC in annual payouts

So the writer believes the SEC only wants to get into the state of NC and
not the state of VA? Not sure I buy that! And take Pitt?
Conference Realignment Board

Adding 4-5 biggest schools from the PAC would be great...I would also go
further and say the ACC/PAC would need a Texas school as well. Have to get the ACCN into the state of Texas!

Adding UVA, VT, UNC and CU to the B1G helps with more possibilities with
late season (November) games in warmer climates!

The ACC is sealing its' own death by doing nothing. Jim Phillips
(and the presidents of the conference Universities to some extent) have NO gameplan whatsoever. The incompetence is baffling and infuriating. Many moves could have been made by now, as well as with engagement from ESPN, to secure an ACC future that would have been strong! Years of passing on WVU and Cincinnati cost the league rivalries and new markets (especially Ohio). There were years of talk (when Swofford was still in charge) that Texas to the ACC was hot and heavy rumor. Who knows there because nothing really ever came of it...and again, ESPN, if they wanted, could have helped this to come about because of their ties to Texas and the LHN.
Now opportunities exist with combinations of 4-6 PAC teams, SMU, Houston, Baylor, Tulane, UCF (not that this would bring any benefit because of already having FSU and Miami in the conference). This would open new markets for much needed revenue (Texas, Louisiana, Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, Utah).
The main thing with all of this I don't quite understand is the reluctance (so it seems) from ESPN to build a stronger ACC, which would benefit them all around, and add new states, tv sets, advertising, etc....for a more secure future with agreements with their SEC & ACC properties? If the ACC/ESPN don't act at this moment in time, it sends a message that the network is willing to watch the ACC dissolve in a few years. Maybe they want the likes of Wake, Pitt, BC, Miami off their hands and off their payroll so to speak! We really are at a crossroads as a conference and watching our commissioner and conference leadership sit idly by is a statement in itself. Yes, those are crickets you hear and unfortunately they are growing louder and in unison!

The ACC university presidents need to hold this jackwad Phillips accountabl
He is not doing the conference any favors and is too damn quiet on what is happening! FFS, someone from this ACC have some balls and say enough is enough! If the ACC sits idle on all of this, the league will get what it deserves and it will eventually collapse! π‘
Is Jim Phillips this incompetent?

With the current ACC leadership...I don't see this ending well for
the conference! Only chance of survival seems to be in the hands of ESPN (and maybe one other media partner) along with the PAC and ACC merger of some sort.

I just want to know WHY the ACC is so quiet in all of this? The ACC seems
content to continue being "reactive" in this conference realignment/merger fiasco the last few years! Unless the ACC & PAC come to some sort of agreeement or merger or something...both conferences will be forever left behind. I just don't see a level playing field anymore as long as the BIG whatever and the SEC have all the power (along with the media).
I would think ESPN having a large coast to coast conference (PAC & ACC) would generate millions more viewers and $$$$$. A conference with the likes of Oregon, Washington, Stanford, Cal, Arizona, Colorado, Utah and the ACC schools is a pretty powerful lineup of entities, is it not? I would guess (not specifically based on anything concrete) per school payout would at least increase close to $50-55 million....maybe that's lowballing it
