I didn't catch all of it, but the highlights:
- Based on reliable sources at Clemson, expects a departure announcement by end of year
- FSU and UNC are involved as well
- South Carolina (USCe) is trying to block any possible Clemson addition to the SEC
- No mention of how the GOR would be addressed (or I missed that part).
Article is behind a paywall, but here's a link

All this bluster about their leaving never mentions where they are going. Same for FSU.
The Texas, Oklahoma, USC and UCLA leaks were about where going, not leaving. With the SEC and B1G not interested in challenging a GOR, where are they going?
Greg Swain is nauseating on Twitter with his nonsense. As are others

trying to enter the tv markets in Virginia/North Carolina/Florida/Georgia? Much bigger populations and revenue streams in those states!
Nothing is happening unless one of these schools has a few billionaires ready to drop the necessary exit fees for said schools to move

The only Top 25 public universities from the Power 5 that aren't ....
in the AAU are FSU, Georgia and Virginia Tech. Would the B1G consider those schools based on academic ranking? NC State is just outside of the Top 25. The B1G prides itself on academics, research and development and values AAU membership. NC State and Virginia Tech are B1G-worthy except for the AAU membership. FSU and Clemson have some work to do on R&D.
IMHO, every member of the ACC except for Louisville fits well academically in the B1G, Research-wise, Duke, GA Tech, Miami, UNC, NC State, Pitt, UVA and VA Tech fit in well. Clemson and FSU are borderline.
TV market-wise, FSU, GA Tech, Miami, UNC, NC State, Notre Dame, UVA and VA Tech are the best options.
TV ratings-wise: Clemson, Duke (men's basketball), FSU, UNC (men's basketball) and Notre Dame are the prizes.
Large state universities (avg. B1G school has 48,000 students): ACC members with over 25,000 students are in order - FSU, VA Tech, Pittsburgh (public-private), NC State, UNC and GA Tech.
So the so-called Magnificent Seven are correctly named. GA Tech would be my #8 since they would add value to the BIG but not the SEC. Duke men's basketball may be orth the addition even though we all know it's all about football. Syracuse would be my #9. The Big 12 may like Louisville and Pitt. I'm sure they would like GA Tech, NC State and VA Tech and/or UVA if they can't find a Power 2 home. Wake and BC are pretty much screwed.

It's not based on research or academic superiority.
Of the latest members who were invited, only ASU had more research funding than VT. USF had less than half...

If the remnants of the ACC are able to control the ACC's assets, like the ACC Network and NCAA revenue distributions, then maintaining the conference is the best option.

or, 9-10 schools all leave together. That means they have a spot to land, or form a new conference. In other words, nowhere!

Flugaur quickly grabbed my attention when he said that a group of ACC schools are about to “bum-rush” the conference to grab a settlement to get out of the ACC. The magnificent seven plus another one or two ACC schools are likely in the group that Flugaur is talking about. Greg Flugaur’s track record on conference realignment involving USC, Colorado, and Arizona add a degree of believability to his current reporting.

But definitely a good fit for the SEC.

The old construct is no longer.
If the B1G took Oregon, I'm not sure why the wouldn't be interested in Clemson. And vice versa.

Not a deal breaker for the B1G anymore.

Penn State, Nebraska (at the time), Maryland, Rutgers, USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington are all AAU. I can't think of anyone else they've added. Notre Dame is AAU, added for Hockey.

The B1G commissioner said it last year.
(In response to this post by tarheelblue)
Warren said it at the what I think was the B1G Media Days IIRC.
If I find it, I will post it.
Also, Bit Ten mouthpiece Greg Flugar has said it numerous times on his show, FWIW.
And from something I heard in the past, when Nebraska was voted out of the AAU, some Big Ten presidents voted in favor of their expulsion.
Obviously I'm not suggesting it doesn't matter and has no weight at all. But it isn't as iron clad as we used to think.
And I do think that the B1G would take Clemson and FSU if the chance came up.

The B1G's 1st choice would be Notre Dame, 2nd would probably be UNC, 3rd and 4th would probably be FSU or UVA, 5th would probably be Miami. They might even want Duke or Stanford over Clemson. Clemson is way down the list of priorities for the B1G.

Conference realignment doesn't care about "good fits".
WVU, UCF and Cincinnati in the western Midwest/Plains Big 12 along with 4 Rocky Mountain region schools; Pacific Coast Cal and Stanford, Notre Dame, Louisville and SMU in the Atlantic Coast Conference; Southwest schools Oklahoma, Texas and TAMU in the SEC along with Midwestern Missouri; Rutgers, Maryland, Penn State, USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington in the Midwestern Big 10 and so on ....... Plus the academic snobs at the ACC added the lowest (or one of the lowest) ranked Power 5 academic institutions in Louisville. So fit doesn't really matter.
Based on the current understanding of regional U.S. geography by those brainiacs leading the Power 4 conferences, Clemson would fit in just fine as members of the Pac-12 if it were still around in 2024. ;)

B1G with mostly state flagship and AAU. SEC with state flagship.
The ACC has too mostly other than Louisville. ACC is comfortable with private schools.
The Big12 is the one all over the place with all types.
(In response to this post by Old Line Hokie)
True, but the B1G always bragged about it being Midwest for decades.
The B1G always talked about their Midwestern values. They've only added new members this century because of their greed for more money and power. They precipitated the destruction of one of the nation's most historic and successful athletics conferences in the process of becoming wealthier and more powerful.

Most of the Fans of the historical schools of the B1G I've spoken with don't like it, and want the Midwest character back. Penn State isn't enough midwest for them.
Jim Delany went into the east and set up his B1G offices in NY and DC. That changed it. They hated it. I'm sure being in the Pacific- time zone really sets them off. Or it makes the numb.

to consider sources and motives and timing. Couldn't have anything to do with Clemson spitting the bit last Saturday against FSU?
(In response to this post by reestuart)
I'd love to see Syracuse upset them in the Dome this Saturday.
Clemson fans are saying this is the last time that they will ever play at Syracuse. They say 3 or more ACC schools are announcing their departure from the ACC sometime in October. Clemson fans think it's them, FSU and UNC and either Miami or GA Tech. With all that confidence, they don't know if they're going to the B1G or SEC. ;) It would seem that the "insiders" would at least know what conference has approached them or vice versa? If so, lots of exit fee money and TV contract money to distributed among the remaining ACC mmebers.

I predict that The CFP organization will dissolve and reappear minus the G5 conferences. The Fat Cats will allow some of them to join, but they will exclude the recent FBS newbies who squeezed-in just for playoff money. The current format gives too much veto power to G5's. So the P's will isolate themselves until they establish their secure positions in the pay structure. Then they'll open up the gates again.

Setting a new average attendance requirement of say, 50,000 may be coming. This will a serve a second important function. In addition to casting out the G5, it will cull the undesirables from P4: Duke, Wake, Vandy, Northwestern, BC, etc.

that requirement would also snag the Hoos based on recent levels. ;-)
Once they attempt to cull the herd the real fun begins. Politicians will get involved, antitrust considerations will be raised, etc., etc..
