not according to the governor and the General Assembly

Funny they dont agree on much but on this consensus its almost unanimous. From Senators, toe Congress reps, to Governor leadership to General Assembly. Basically, the board of Visitors (and the president are appointed by the Governor and appointed by the General Assembly. All members and appointees have been given specific guidance on this and if any non-compliance, They will be immediately replaced. During VT entry into the ACC, the board of UVA really wasnt that pleased to support VT (Canteen and Mr Goodwin ws fine), but Gov Warner advised he can replace them immediately . They were strongly encouraged. However, we dont go there, because while we are emotional fans, at the Leadership level VT and UVA are extremely close ands partner much more than folks think. They know partnership includes the athletic aspect of it. We are not crazy like the others.

classic last time they played in charlotte many fights in the stands

UNC fans, ... lets say being tar heels really condescending to the folks from WV. The Mountaineer folks don't take much for them to just go off. (they don't go into snarky back and forth). should be great to sit back, and some pop corn

Ive quit really getting too energize.

alot of uninformed folks on a official looking and sounding podcast, and making it sound its all done. Im sure VT officials are situationally aware, (they aren't going to say anything). but are dedicated to protecting the University .

They frankly didnt have a chance

Sec and big 10 would walk and create thekr own and with it tv ratings

I agree, you mentioned the ties with State and UNC

UVA and VT are pretty wired together, and the outsiders are really beginning to understand that. NC State and UNC. well. interesting .. we all know UNC has one university the UNC system. One state wide colleges at Raleigh, Chapel Hill Greensboro etc etc... UNC Chapel Hill have always felt they were aloof from the system (sounds Like UCLA and University of California system. I think during the recent ACC words, that long term retired CEO of IMG support advised Boo Corrigan that UNC was having discussions (and not with State mentioned to leave). that info was critical for NC State to change the vote to accept Stanford, cal and SMU in. (also he's a good friend of the Chancellor of the UNC system and the Chancellor directed, that no local campus leadership can have any discussion involving conference realignment without his approval and his guidance, we expect both to be included. (UNC was not happy)... I think at the end, my thinking is all 4 of us go to the SEC. and FSU, Clemson and Miami to the Big 10 The key is when/?? When the SEC stated how happy at 16 they are,.. very interesting.. or calling a bluff. and then hearing the Big 10 wants to pause to settle out the 18 members. interesting. When they are quiet is when all the trouble hits

interesting... take this is why this topic is crazy

Who has the inside information, what really is going on, the battle between conferences, and schools also want their own way. My that is a corporate intrigue and conspiracy movie ready to be made.

exactly

he saw it transition from the Big east and the split, and his core teams leaving and new guys coming in. etc etc. and power 5 separation getting worse. WOW. Time for a good retirement.. he earned it

Interesting AAC commissioner is retiring

Tough job. and he managed it, but don't know the future for AAC with all the changes in college football. being group of 5 like the AAC is I think is tough, you are picked on by the Power 5, but who don't want to be branded with FCS.

exactly, he mentioned that one time

In talking about the portal and challenging of recruiting, He said he basically has to go in the framework, that he has to recruit the entire team EVERY year. There is no guarantees. This is why he recruits a special mentality player His program's are one of transparencies between the entire staff and players, this includes all metrics of performance, and evaluations and where they stand. They also have close discussions with the players to see any concerns, and happy, and if they get offers they come to the staff and they discuss it frankly.... They promote what is best for the player and his family, and if VT doesn't offer that great....Its not because VT doesn't try. I think our coach is a special type of coach who thinks like a NFL General Manager and player development executive, he knows his players, where they stand, who has the up and who is flatlining, and at the same time, going out for 1) long term program high school recruiting, and 2) supplementing for immediate needs Portal, and VT has a competitive NIL program. I would say, our staff, thinks in signing portal guys a Return of Investment to the program. Maybe its a better RPI for an amazing FCS Group of 5 guy over 5 star in the portal, and also other specialties include (did we initially recruit them and they selected another, and still interested great...

however, they get a big check from FOX

and as you say they willl get 11 in tourney, TV ratings and branding.

We laugh, but for those folks is just play money

That money doesn't hurt them, its just free money and if its gone, great do it again. This is completely different level of wealth that most of us, are not in that world,. They can write checks because they can... and their mentality is they will continue to write a check into they get it right. Its a shame, they didnt have the same commitment for other charitable activities

Lets be blunt, its about the money

Wash St and oregon st could not afford to join the conference with no sharing of ACC revenue for 6 years. and Just couldn't get there WHERE SMU, Cal and Stanford was willing to join with no revenue sharing for 6 years. (Cal will be fine with the 30 million guarantee from UCLA athletics for the impact of leaving the PAC 12, Stanford budget is bigger than Wash St or oregon st, and they just write checks s as private school (and the same) for SMU.

and the SEC will want MORe

dont we know only the SEC plays college football and the best teams 8-9 of the twelve are from the SEC. Thats the end game

If they did that, long term impact to FSU

Bottomline, what conference would want a university so out of control....and emotional leadership. These are the times, when organizations have to act respectfully, never let your university look bad. and FSU again always does something like this...

Sounds like espn picking the teams

They know who they want and since they are giving the check well.. So much influence

Im not on the snub but overall qualifications

Phillips experience is the tried and true athletic director and academic guy, from a private school and his focus has always been liaison with the university and student athletes. However in this world now conferences are like professional leagues and rights and innovative revenue streams are the current trend. When both the Big 10 and Big 12 have huge sports business guys with extensive experience in the area, helps.

Lets dont get into hate, they are doing what their employer wants

There is no independent opinion, but they are entertainment hosts for ESPN, and ESPN tells them what the narrative is. and where is ESPN most dollars being invested, and that what they willl sell. You are getting 6 figures annually for the gig. You do what you have to do Its not personal its the nature of the business However, I agree on the narrative, horrible,

The problem was the hire, ACC needed a business guy not an AD

Notice the resumes of the commissioners now. Big 10 Huge network sports executive and agent Big 12 Huge network sports executive and agent (from NBA) SEC huge corporate lawyer Phillps highly respected AD from a highly respected private university. No sensing of the business of sports, just academics and student athlete issues. (Was a good hire for university presidents, suck for the ACC sports business) Be great if there would be new commissioner. and he retires to some tenured professor position

who said UNC will be allowed to by NC

Already, the Chancellor of the NC system, directed all power five universities, that they will not have any discussions or decisions about changing conferences without the boards approval. Also, the consideration of the state will be the holistic health of all the campuses. (this means, no UNC if you get a big 10 or SEC invite, you cannot be invited without an invite of NC State

Good perspective from one podcast

The key was played before the GA Ala game, when SEC commissioner laid down the gaunlet to all, Simply No way will we allow SEC not play in the playoffs. That gaunlet rippled through the selection team. (also I was thinking why the AD at NC State didnt just speak saying it was not right. (he's thinking, if he makes a move, that would piss off the SEC, and any opportunity for NC State to be invited into the SEC would be a blacklist. ONe network, has exclusive rights to SEC, and Exclusive rights to CFB championship process. Not rocket sicence here. total collusion. Also, nice people, can also make terrible decisions and just bacause they are nice, still need to be held accountable. (I have lost so much respect in NC State AD, and Grobe the ex Wake coach.) ACC was the only one in the room who could speak out on this.

The Big 12 a bunch of Texas wanta bes

Sorry, more fake news from the Big 12 ,would of the Q, elections were stolen etc.

Things at ESPN and ACC world has changed so much

early days of ESPN, ACC and ESPN were not a business model but truly relationship, they were making opportunities, seeing great events to show. They assumed the viewers would follow. but like anything Rights escalated, and when ESPN/ABC and merged with disney, there started to be factors of return on investment. the new guys were movie folks, and were not based on relationships. The same folks saw the rights things getting out of hand... (especially with pressure from traditional cable, satellite industry. Simply now ESPN managed by return on investment for entertainment, not sports. Therefore they see a better investment in funding full SEC, their drama their passion, and their huge sports industry in the sunbelt, was much better. Then they invested in getting the rights for CFB championship, and being able in content to manage the perceptions to only the SEC football is good, (because its the only sports network) or Fox who give rights to colleges. The other conferences are left taking whatever is left, (possibly in future gyrations less rights), and the schools have really no choice. Actually fox has the same mentality, with the Big 10 and Notre dame is ND. The rest hanging. and if either network see any flatlines in tTV revenue, they might push conferences for expansion. My gut all the major transactions in this phase is done, for a year or two....ESPN wants to know their investment in the SEC is worth it, and they get superior product in the expanded playoffs. Fox needs to see how this 18 team Big 10 works with an broad national football print and how does it translate into enhanced revenue. (and to the Big 10, outsourced some games to NBC/ NBC might have the margin, ND (national brand) and the Big 10 game of the week (when ND is away in ACC game. (also for ESPN, the only value of the ACC, is they get viewers when ND plays an ACC team. Real cynical, but it is . dont worry about it . the rest of us just need to work harder, be more creative on revenue streams, hire and keep top notch coaches who want to be rogue to the Big 10 for SEC, as well as type of players who want to stick it to the SEC/Big 10 programs

military bowl, lane stadium north way north

located where 40 percent 40,000 plus of VT total alumni reside...(per Pry)

Exactly and they say go to 12 ok here rhe layout

1 slot acc 1slot grouo of 5 1 slot big 12 and 1 slot nd and the resf big 10 sec 8 for rhe rest And the prvieldge of playing in firsf round at sec big 10 venues Getting bettee??

ok UNC you got WV in Charlotte.. you know what happened last time

UNC was aghast with fights with WV mountaineers who had enough of their condescending fans. This should be entertaining. My gut inside of the ACC was UNC vs VT over Charlotte. Charlotte would have loved WVU vs VT. however, all works out...They were shipping UNC to Holiday Bowl

Corrigan at least needs to say something

amazing how quiet he is, no after thought comments as the chair... hmmmm be interesting when NC State goes to FSU this year.... kinda chilly. will they even have dressing room

that was done when BCS was killed

The BCS model actually gave a fair opportunity, between the computer, polls and subjective. But the problem was guess what the 'brand's were on equal footing and didnt get in. Teams like VT and even WVU had a chance, remember how arrogant Texas was when VT sneaked into the Sugar bowl, and kicked their butt. guess what Not anymore. So we play for ACC championship, we play for Saturday afternoon. Also, if ESPN wants a special time, NO thank you our fans go first, (and the BTW we still have a damin contract with you.,

especially NC State, and guess who was the chair of the CFB committee/

FSU was putting on the drama and railing against expansion, and NC state changed that vote. What was that all about. Im sure Corrigan was not going to reach out and help FSU. For long term ACC, there is no long term, better to be a prick conference and be a pain in any collaboratiion including ESPN. Go down Swinging.

I do think NC State AD need some explanation to league members

He suppose to be the ACC rep. and things getting out of whack, he need to go public and expose the myth. Wouldn't that be great, that on sunday morning right before the announcement the chair of the CFB board come out a say this entire committee was a sham and all in the pockets of the SEC and Big 10. Wouldn't that just cause craziness. However, another ACC member, being polite and happy to be there, but getting floored. (also no excuse for coach Grobe another ex ACC guy asleep at the wheel. Amazing

some one needs to really go after Corrigan at NC State

Really was just a puppet to the SEC Big 10 lobby. guess he was just eating pop corn. also coach grobe after retiring at Wake seems asleep in the wheel. He needs some real discussion during his walks during retirement

Vt got in and thaf shocked the sec

Bcs was based on computer ratings and subjective committee . Vt squeezed in. The answer now is vt could be 12-0 and will never be allowed in the playoffs That is the agenda

It was a deep culture thing managing a program

Things that Denny Crum and Pertino did was really bad, and the last one was the final straw, (Especially getting invited to the ACC), the president of Louisville at the time (and governor) had a long discussion, and the entire program was cleaned out and start from scratch. As many of you seen, its transformed, but sometimes the 'product of the field' doesn't match the commitment to quality student academics and athletics together has changed. IN 2023, its very very hard, to rebuild a brand from scratch and that's what is happening. and They do not want to do it, the old Louisville way.

I wish the ACC would be more demonstrative on ESPN messaging

Every venue that ESPN has with the ACC team, out them for being just the SEC shrill and you as an interviewer just a SEC plant.

Madison program challenges

They lose their football coach and most of staff They have 10 players in the portal (including their starting qb and SUNBELT player of the year. Their AD is lame duck and retiring next spring. Hard to hire a coach who won't know his boss, and lots of players leaving and just interim to manage portal time and recruiting. Think a step back for JMU next year

Hmm in terms of national universities

Acc has national academic private and large stste achools Guess higher education national reputation not your thing

Funny guess u think vt is really vpi military school

Its almosf 40,000 university flagshio university of the commonweath with huge campus in northern va dc and roanoke Vt has moved on and left back those institutions

Our program vision is different

We play finesse and screens and frail thin guys (some tall but bean poles) Othe program have guys 6-5 6-8 240-250 built like tight ends and just dominate the boards. then get a sharp guard who throws up shots and the guys get the boards and rebound for a shot. Thats the SEC, big 10
