Just been catching up with a lot of the rumors around the demise of the ACC
Some of the stuff out there is pretty funny like the "Locked on B12" guy talking like they are almost equal to the P2. They are not and have nothing the P2 wants period. I would hate for us to end up there because they are at best a stable minor league.
Very interesting on UVA including Thamel's ranking them as #2 team behind UNC for either of the P2. Is their "public ivy" status worth a lot more when they are not needed athletically?
To me the one thread is that is pretty constant is with neither of the P2 in the NOVA, VA. NC market area that market area has more value than UVA, VT, UNC or NCSU individually.
So one of my special observations, the SEC can screw up everything by offering VT, UVA, UNC and NCSU all at one time. That would not only create a presence in the NOVA/VA/NC market for the SEC, it would lock the Big out.
Why? because that would lock the Big out of the above market. A shot across the bow of the Big,

They seem to feel superior to everyone, including the B10. They will take what they want of the ACC, with no regard to locking out the B10 from any area. If the B10 wants to take the SEC leftovers, even if in the SEC footprint, then I don't think the SEC cares. And I don't believe the SEC thinks any team would choose the B10 over the SEC. Just how they think.

Pretty close to Maryland scale.
VT is not a fridge player in DMV

But to get the whole enchilada a conference will have to have a VA and NC team. If the SEC wanted to do a preemptive strike the 4 take this whole market area off the table for the other conference.
I also think that with the SEC only having 16 teams as opposed to the Bigs 18 gives the SEC a bit more leverage. I do think that if the Big takes anyone other than ND, it will be to challenge for the NOVA south to Fla.

Interesting…had not really thought about this much
I can see FSU, Clemson and UM —> SEC
VT, UVA, NCState and UNC—> B1G for the reasons you said
The remaining bones in a B12 roll up, island of misfit toys league
So P5–>P2.5

dizzy. It is easy to make a good argument for almost any combination of moves. It's just as easy to blow up any suggested combo with "yeah, but...." arguments. I think the media companies will have a big say this time around and they may veto some moves, especially expansion of The SEC from The ACC. Using round numbers, ESPN is facing a future in which they have ACC schools for ~$50 million per. The SEC wants poach some of those schools, at which time ESPN will begin paying those same schools ~$80 - $100 million, without improving their footprint. Will ESPN be eager to do that? They would almost certainly reject a redundant bundle of UNC, NC St, UVa, VT.
Whatever benefit the institutions find in this, it may not be persuasive to ESPN. Flugaur (I know) implied that The SEC is seeking to involve an additional media partner if they expand. Is this as simple as adding SEC content to The CW "overflow" channel? Does this require ESPN's cooperation in the media contract? Would expansion teams be excluded from the current media deal and have their own package elsewhere?
Maybe I am needlessly paranoid, but I see ESPN as being more agreeable to ACC teams moving to The B1G rather that The SEC. It would give them an opportunity to buy in to the footprint they lost in The B1G and the West Coast. If The B1G expands they will need more linear TV capacity (ESPN).
I am among the minority who think Georgia Tech has a chance at The B1G. The OTA networks would love to be televising games in Atlanta and The BTN would enjoy the carriage coins from that very large state.

They already have South Carolina as a school and as a state. Sure Clemson has made themselves into a good name brand, but that seems secondary for some of these expansion decisions.
Top tier ACC targets are FSU UNC and UVA. My guess remains that all three go to BIG.
Clemson is tier two because of the above. Miami is tier two because they are small and haven’t been great in awhile.
VT and NCSU are tier three but maybe get bumped up due to political ties to UVA and UNC. Also VT has done a very solid job on academic side to help as a selling point (for what it’s worth).
Everyone else is tier four and will have some hard decisions to make eventually.

You can move pack & Hokies into your tier 2 and drop canes way down.

As i still don’t see them being worthy of the large alumni base ‘needs’ of both sec & b1…
I liken canes to Gonzaga…yes, strong pedigree & brand…P2 not adding Gonzaga for basketball & Gonzaga’s basketball pedigree & tv audience…nor canes for their football…
Just my thoughts…

the path of least resistance is for one (or both) of the P2 to offer all 4. the likely reality is they will be better off doing so then ceding the last important geography to their rival.
SEC will have an interesting decision if/when ACC implodes - take FSU and Clemson which although no new states are national brands and will keep the B1G out of their footprint or cede FSU/Clemson for new contiguous states, or try to do both. IF there were no political pressure SEC probably tries and adds FSU Clemson NCSU and VT, and B1G takes UNC and UVa. But the states of NC and VA wisely will try and tie their respective schools together which will hopefully benefit VT in making sure we move into a new conference with some logical partners.

alot of uninformed folks on a official looking and sounding podcast, and making it sound its all done.
Im sure VT officials are situationally aware, (they aren't going to say anything). but are dedicated to protecting the University .

Our priorities are pretty clear.
1. Stay in ACC with current schools
2. If ACC breaks up, go to BIG

in the CFP was a sign of respect towards the B12 when in reality it was because it was (future SEC/ESPN brand) Texas. If it were Oklahoma State or Baylor with the exact same resume then they would have gotten snubbed and FSU would have gotten in.

UT getting in has nothing to do with UT or the BigXII, but Bama and the SEC
The committee HAD to include Texas if they included Alabama. So that was a 2 for 1 deal. If Texas would have beaten, let's say, Ohio State instead of Bama, they would have been left out. Not because it is less impressive, but because it wasn't head to head with Bama.
Now overall, I agree. There is a pecking order in the BigXII, and Texas is at the top of the food chain, BY FAR. And liddle "Locked on B12 Guy" is about to find out.

Not saying the ACC isn't in trouble but no way are FSU, Clemson, etc leaving to join that league.

You know what would make for good TV? An event with the B1G and SEC where
they would carve up the ACC. The B1G and SEC commit in advance to take enough teams between them to dissolve the ACC (however many schools that would be). Do a snake draft. Do a coin flip before the event. The winner of the coin flip would chose if they'd rather have the 1st and the 4th choice, or the 2nd and 3rd pick, and then so on after that. All ACC teams sign their rights away in advance--in other words, each team is bound to the conference that chooses them.
OK. I am being TIC here. But part of me is sick of the slow death. Just someone make a decision already and let's get on with the new era.

Going separate ways from UVa short circuits the “joined at the hip” relationship which is helping to keep us both at the table. A P2 could jump one for the other, but not both for say a JMU.
The B1G is slightly ahead of the SEC in terms of payouts and markets. Whereas the SEC is leaner and has demographic trends in its favor. No telling where this is headed long term.
This is assuming that VT ends up in the P2 at all. If we are, then we’re in a huge arms race for competitiveness that we may not be able to sustain. If not, then we’re relegated to being a developmental program.
Lots of unknowns to ponder. The best thing to do is to let it play out while committing to improve our own situation irrespective of conference affiliation.

And UNC, NCSU, UVA and VT to the SEC is really the best possible outcome for all to preserve our rivalries and establish new geographical ones with Tenn, SC and Kentucky. We need to be rooting for FSU and Clemson to the B1G.

The only difference between the BigXII and the ACC is that
the ACC hasn't been picked through yet for its essential body parts by the B1G and SEC. Sure, the B1G took Maryland, but that was like the ACC donating its hair.
TIC. But you get my point.
