Jim Phillips is being roasted and some are
saying since he's been with the Acc everything he's done has benefited ND and the Big 10. I will say the Acc BB bids have gone down and Fsu is a travesty. The guy shouldn't be commissioner. I heard this on a podcast with a News and Advance writer. Some of you probably saw it too and I agree with them. Olives and Giglio or something like that is the name.

As a close follower of the PAC implosion, I’d say he’s not quite as bad
As Larry Scott. But he has all the skills to drive the ACC right off the same cliff. Just taking a longer route.

SEC huge corporate lawyer
Phillps highly respected AD from a highly respected private university. No sensing of the business of sports, just academics and student athlete issues. (Was a good hire for university presidents, suck for the ACC sports business)
Be great if there would be new commissioner. and he retires to some tenured professor position

Phillips experience is the tried and true athletic director and academic guy, from a private school and his focus has always been liaison with the university and student athletes. However in this world now conferences are like professional leagues and rights and innovative revenue streams are the current trend. When both the Big 10 and Big 12 have huge sports business guys with extensive experience in the area, helps.

Some didn't like that he was not all over the media the weeks prior pumping
His only team that could get a spot in the playoffs...the SEC people saturated the media during that time frame.
Personally, I think he knew the decisions were already made and didn't want to come across as a losing beggar.

You do that by carefully constructing a message. You don't want to introduce debate and doubt, but he needed to get on a loud podium and say "Look a this incredible FSU team. They show they can win under any circumstances. What a great team sport we have here and what a great story. A team united is a team that can win it all - and they've been doing that every week. I've never seen a team with this adversity respond so well. Isn't this what America is about, and what makes our country so great. When you get knocked down, you fight - and you prove it on the field - not based on what pundits say - but instead by putting in all the hard work and making adjustments so that your score is higher than you opponent in the end. I've seen so many teams crumble when things don't bounce right, but not this team. Put them on the field, and they respond. Doesn't matter if it's home or away. They show up, and they take care of business.

represents. And, during the conference championship games when it was clear that some were questioning whether FSU should be in the playoffs, Phillips needed to be saturating the airways demanding FSU's inclusion.

However, in my opinion, there is an equally valid counterpoint that effort, irrespective of the likelihood of outcome, also matters and being ardently defended by the leadership is not an unreasonable expectation. Only those close to Phillips and the situation probably know the real story, however, the optics at least raise some questions. I doubt Sankey, Yormark or a guy like former Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delaney would have allowed a situation like this to pass without strong and vocal challenges both before and after.
