Drop back passer. So is VT abandoning the dual threat style?

Does that say something about the preferences of the unnamed OC? Or is this just the style of this particular recruit and they’ll work with the talent they can get? Edit: not complaining. He is a P2 QB and questioning style choice not talent. First world problem. ** Edited by SunDevilHokie at 12/1/2025, 1:43:19 PM

These are now business decisions more often than not

Other factors are included but unfortunately the “play for a school” period seems to be over.

Shane’s on a short leash and USCe is stuck in mid-SEC

And Dabo/Clemson and the NC schools are all scuffing a bit. Good time to make a statement along the mid-Atlantic.

If he can’t win a big game with all the resources in the world,

What would he do with comparatively no NiL, second tier resources, and 2-3 star recruits. Gonna need a coach who knows how to gets more done with much less.

Any opinions on VTs early season struggles?

it’s unfortunately becoming an annual tradition. Last year wasn’t unexpected with new faces, but this year we looked bad for the first month with experience and improved talent. Are we just not good enough to beat mediocre Rutgers at home or is the staff not able to prepare game schemes/players before the season. With a couple more tougher games on the schedule, it’d be nice if we don’t fully duplicate last year by duplicating our Louisville and NCState games and show some real year over year improvement.

As a fellow ex-PAC, expect to be underwhelmed by Cal’s sports efforts

Stanford at least tries but mostly in women’s and Olympic sports I think SMU is just happy to freely spend their oil money in a bigger conference. They’ve been stonewalled by the other TX teams forever.

Most believe the big 3 go P2 through courts and $$$. B12 would either

Merge with many of the rest to form first super conference. Seems most want Pitt, NCSU, Miami, VT, and Louisville to give them eastern markets and closer competition for WVU, Cincy, and UCF.

Big12 boards talking merger with ACC based on following scenario driven by

ESPN… it’s being reported that the network won’t renew ACC contract in ‘27 which provides an escape from conference GOR. Dominoes would fall (ie FSU, Clemson, et cetera would bolt for P2) and the ACC would quickly follow the PAC implosion. This would allow ESPN to both add some big names and drop a contract. The rumor is that the ACC is preemptively talking with B12 to combine in some manner (merger or something similar) to drive a better media contract for both conferences and block ESPN from entirely killing the ACC.

Just FYI…Salad Bowl didn’t become Fiesta. There was a 20 year gap between

the two. The Kiwanis Club stopped tossing the Salad in ‘51 and Fiesta started in ‘71 by an independent charity group.

As a close follower of the PAC implosion, I’d say he’s not quite as bad

As Larry Scott. But he has all the skills to drive the ACC right off the same cliff. Just taking a longer route.

Name one undefeated conference champ that a 1 loss ACC team would jump over

I’ll wait. You shouldn’t identify an impossibility as a straw man argument ** Edited by SunDevilHokie at 12/6/2023, 12:34:01 PM

Great. Guess both my Alma Maters are stuck in the BLC.

Big Leftovers Conference. Seriously though, the schools in B12 are reasonably similar to VT especially along with Pitt, NCSU, and maybe GT. Blue collar and land grant backgrounds.

Is “We’ll have our hands full” the new “They’ll really get after ya” ?

Just kidding but I’ll be watching out for this take through next year. ** Edited by SunDevilHokie at 12/4/2023, 4:08:20 PM

VT and other non-P2/deep pocket teams better have a portal strategy

If they want to be relevant. I have no idea what that has to do with your comment. I’m trying to come up with a way to have a good QB stay at VT for longer since they probably won’t re-enter the portal. Isn’t that good for the game compared to recruiting, growing, then losing a QB to Tennessee, etc?

Duke, Buckeye, Wazzou, Beavers QBs and many more entering portal

Makes me wonder. In today’s portal world, why bother trying to recruit a 4 star QB unless you’re a top dog in P2. Focus on mid-star athletic QB that can run decent RPO. Then focus effort and NIL $ on portal QB for a r-freshman or sophomore QB every two or three years. They can’t re-enter portal without sitting a year so chances are you have them long enough to do well. Might be the best chances for a non-P2 team with limited NIL.

There’s a potential ton of $ available to UH in a wide open B12 conference

Big oil/energy contributors. In a few years he could win big and get his choice of P2. Maybe he knows his career plan better than we do.
