Why is the college football mafia still tying their hands to bowl games for the playoffs? Every great tradition the game had has been dumped in the trash. So why keep silly bowl game names for these playoff games? The semi final is not the Rose Bowl. It is the national semi-final, only.

that would add 4 more teams..or would mean dumping a couple lower end bowls. Also, the sponsors of those bowls pay a lot more for those games since they are cfp games rather than just a bowl game.

Must be pretty cheap. I’d say Pop-Tarts is the best. No clue what Wasebi is.

1. Bowl is established as a way for boast tourism, restaurants and awareness of the community, thru national media like ESPN. (communities get the 2 hour of fame).
2. Costs to put these events on harder; conferences are bidding for rights and getting more for the prime 2 and the rest have to scramble for the rest. When you see the lower tier bowls with CUSA SBC teams, these bowls have to give rights to these conferences at the budget they can afford. Since our 'value' worth of these conferences is the number of bowl tie in's well you get what you get.
3. Tickets key is the teams must guarantee so many tickets, and the bowl is responsible for the rest, but most in the community (not interested).
4. Naming rights help alot to balance the budget and again the larger companies are not seeing the return on investment for naming rights, (others differ).. Therefore you get what you get and these bowls are left for new entries. (without these naming rights they are in a hole)
5. Last ESPN, the TV rights is huge, ESPN needs contact and bowls give them that, but for the smaller bowls, not as much. (as we seeing with conference rights, the ESPN/FOX rather put all their money to the final big bowls, and the rest is charity.
so Kellogg felt its good for their brand to get a naming rights for a bowl. for POP TARTS, Wasabi is using that to improve their 'brand' and hopefully you watch the game see the commercials and say wow, lets buy some. Marketing.
Its entertainment that's all.... hopefully these games give us interesting match ups and enjoyble to watch. or watch one LIVE in ANNAPOLIS be there. and party with the Hokies

I’m sure there are plenty of fun board meetings where the marketing director tries to sell the idea of buying bowl naming rights. Avocados of Mexico is a great ad sale IMO. Some of these other sales, I’d be curious how the returns are for the companies that try them.

Humanitarian Bowl. Pretty lame.
And it was once called the MPC Computers. Also pretty weak.
It's named the Famous Idaho Potatoes Bowl now. Much better.

Salad Bowl before it became the Fiesta Bowl
(In response to this post by HokiePokie95)
Just FYI…Salad Bowl didn’t become Fiesta. There was a 20 year gap between
the two. The Kiwanis Club stopped tossing the Salad in ‘51 and Fiesta started in ‘71 by an independent charity group.
