My understanding is they only have to pay him
the difference between what he was making at PSU and what he gets paid at his new job. So if we’re actually paying him the same or more, I think PSU is mostly off the hook.

Unless JF's next best option was considerably less than VT is paying.
Again, PSU is the big winner.

And PSU was going to avoid paying most of his severance regardless of where he went.

That's a big assumption. Only Arkansas appears to have had any interest
