Attendance at the Christmas week ones was down looked like.
We'll need to wait to see if New Years week bowls is better. I expect we'll see that somewhere. ESPN won't worry about that as thy focus on viewers, but someone should post it.

Apparently People are Watching These Bowls
I keep seeing pundits declare bowls are dead, but they are getting an audience. As long as they do they'll continue I'd imagine. ESPN put out a chart for the ones Christmas Week. There were many more this week too including the Quarterfinals. It's interesting. That Ga Tech-BYU Poptart Bowl had a big audience.

The Bowls are Notorious for passing over teams to get what they want
We're familiar. It happened more than once to UVA that we were passed over for NCState when UVA was a full game ahead in the standings. The Peach Bowl is notorious. It's now part of the CFP and out of that game. The bowls are looking to sell tickets, fill stands, and get the better travelling fans to their cities for tourism. But that committee shouldn't be doing that. They now seem to be following what ESPN wants for ratings.
And being on the bubble for the basketball tournaments is rolling the dice. The committee does whatever they feel like.

The 3 losses alone should have put Alabama behind 12 in rank.
That's on that Committee that needs to be gotten rid of. But they won't. They love committees in these tournaments, and they are biased. Alabama did win the first game at Oklahoma, which counts for something. But they should not have been there with 3 losses since 2 other teams has only 2 losses and were more deserving IMO. Kirk Herbstreet couldn't have been more suprised that Alabama couldn't handle it this year. He's probably the only one other than that Committee. Alabama is still a very good team, but they were picked over 2 others that I think were more deserving.
After watching this, the CFP needs to go to 16 now with zero Byes. The teams with the byes are showing that they are too rusty in this playoff. Only 1 out of the last 8 has been able to win, and all of them should be the better teams. The NFL handles that ok, but it's not a month layoff like college.

OSU played that vaunted B1G schedule.
The one that FOX pays a fortune to put on TV. It is like that most years. OSU broke through last year, but they benefit from super high pre-season polling, and get protected with that schedule most years.

Miami gets an ACC team in the semis.
There shouldn't be any further debate about Miami deserving a spot. Good for Miami.

That's an interesting question
It's tough for UVA since our rivals are in the ACC now. I guess Maryland, but many of us wouldn't really care about that game. We've had them on the schedule recently, and not a big deal. Anything chosen would be a new rival situation. James Madison might create interest.

Yes. Would love to see both Virginia Teams Matter.!
And I don't mean JMU. But yes. It was an exciting ending. I was not so happy about how Conservative UVA played on Offense in the 4Q, but it worked out. I still like having a Conference Championship Game especially with this many teams. But it may go away as the playoff expands.
I'm still an old school bowl guy, and I was so happy or UVA to finally win a Gator Bowl after losing 2. I was at the 2 losses in person. Couldn't make this Missouri gams as I had weekend Christmas plans. Glad to win the Gator. And I know bowls are headed out.

I'm happy to see them end like this. Getting beat by Ole Miss in the CFP was not as appealing to me, so thank you Duke in a way.

I suggested it recently.
Much preferred to ACC-Big East merger. There was push back, but since we are both national it works for me.

When you put all of the Blue Bloods in 1 or 2 Conferences,
There will be blue bloods with losses. And then coach firings. These coaches should require $100 million buy outs to sign up for a Blue Blood Job.

I agree because FSU was undefeated.
The committee made assumptions about how FSU would do without giving them the chance. That's wrong IMO.

I don't know if that is a backdown or just wanting time to cool down.
He's mad at the ACC, mad at the Committee, and mad at ESPN. It's the whole thing. Doesn't appreciate the 5th grade musical chairs that went on. He said he contacted the Miami AD and wished them luck to go far in the CFP. He will eventually speak with the ACC about this when he's not as emotional. They have somebody going to the Heismann thing in New York this weekend. So maybe after that.

I also saw one where he talked about meeting with the ACC to go over their complaints, but now is not the right time. Something about needing to cool off. He's obviously very mad right now.

I saw that yesterday. Vanderbilt also is 10-2 like Miami and ND.
This happens with the NCAA basketball tournament. Anytime someone is First Out they are Disappointed. FSU didn't like being undefeated and left out in 2023. I get tired of watching ESPN stump for Alabama all the time.

I'm fine with ND sitting at home. Much better than FSU going to the Orange Bowl with Backups and getting embarrassed. Stay home if you don't want to go. Has nothing to do with the broadcaster only the drive of the team.

Navy doesn't want to waste the opportunity to sell a lot of tickets.
So they move their home games against ND to bigger venues. I think it would be fun to see ND play them in Annapolis, but they want the bigger ticket opportunity. Not surprising.
I'm repeating what you said, but it's not anything really that new. Baltimore and Philly were the destinations, but Navy has spread out from those.

I don't think they want SEC either.
It's Big Ten or ACC with current scheduling. They could go back to the Big East perhaps, but Kevin White and Jack Swarbrick saw scheduling get very difficult especially in November. It's now gotten worse with each of the P4 going to 9 games.
Kevin White was close to putting ND in the Big Ten, but there was a revolt then, and he backed down. Jack Swarbrick put in place what we have now. If this guy blows that up, then good luck.

They may want to be careful with how they spurn that. They helped put Stanford and Cal Berkeley in here. They may not care, but I seem to remember TerryD talk about periods in time when the Academics at ND smacks down football a peg. I know they are mad and disappointed. I'm just pointing out another motivation that may be possible behind the scenes.

They do have to worry.
Trying to schedule 12 games as an independent became increasingly difficult for Jack Swarbrick especially in November. So he worked this arrangement with John Swofford to cut that down to 7 games he could schedule on his own. He believed seven was ok to schedule while having the ACC schedule the 5.
Now with the Big Ten pushing against non-conference games after September, and all of the P4 moving to 9 games it will be even tougher. ND will need an ACC type arrangement with some conference to schedule well enough to impress that CFP Committee.

There could be more motivation than the CFP Committee Snub
This AD came from NBC Sports. Perhaps NBC is pushing him to get ND away from ESPN. If they go to the Big East NBC shows Big East games I believe.
It was Jack Swarbrick who saw the value in the ACC. Don't really know much about this man.

Today the ND AD is acting like Florida State acts. It's unbecoming.
If they want to leave, they can leave. They know the steps to do so. So does Florida State. The statement by Jim Phillips is good, and their really isn't much else to say. That Committee was hellbent on putting Alabama in there, and they did so at Notre Dame's expense. The Committee did mislead everyone for a month. The ND AD is correct on that. As I've said for a decade, I want to get away from Committees.

I've not thought Jim Phillips is agressive enough for what the ACC needs. I'm just thinking about all that open space between the ACC and the west. The Big XII is sitting in it.

I believe that ND was helpfull in getting the ACC Network deal
So there is that, and the ACC makes money on the 2-3 football games per year played at ACC schools. But if they don't want to be here then they should go. Jim Phillips took a lot of heat for not lobbying hard for FSU with the Committee in 2023, so he tried harder this time for Miami. I cannot fault him for that.

And the Big XII has done it somewhat too that merger really would create a Nationwide Conference. We've already taken out of the Big East most of what the ACC needs.

The ACC doesn't have them now.
Yes we have a scheduling arrangement for 5 games, and we'd lose that. But we really don't have them in the league for football. For the non-football sports, I wouldn't like losing the men's lacrosse. But we made due before we had ND.
It's up to ND what they want to do. They are making it apparent that they don't want to ever join.

That is unhealthy at best. Much of the Florida State faithful has never wanted to be here, and it has caused problems over the years. So let them go on their merry way.

There are a lot more kids than that who play. More practice etc with a bowl. ESPN makes money on these bowl games.

Teams shouldn't go to bowl games if they don't want to be there. I wish FSU would have opted out of the Orange Bowl when they thought the committee snubbed them 2 years ago rather than play it half assed. That was bad.

In the end it did matter.
The Travesty was Alabama ranked 9 before losing by 3 touchdowns and ranked 9 after losing by 3 touchdowns. Only in the Committee's poll. The AP and Coaches put Alabama at 11 where they belonged if not lower where other 3 loss teams are. ND would probably be in if they were in the ACC. But they value their independence.

The B1G doesn't have teams in the top 10 with 2 and 3 losses.
It's the SEC. And Alabama would be in the top 10 with 3 losses if this committee puts them there.

That was Bad. The insult to the ACC was bad in and of itself.
But that whole short was bad. Usually they are good, but not this time.
