did that before, I forget which year, but they were 6-6 or something, and decided that they didn't deserve a bowl. The players regretted that vote years later. A BYU matchup would have been a good game, but have it in Vegas, apart from the bowl structure, and let the networks bid on the amount, and pay the players for participating.

came out and regretted their decision to vote to not go to a bowl game.
It's a pretty emotional vote when you were just slighted. While I don't blame the players for voting that way, it's my contention that they will regret not being able to play one more game. For some, it's their last chance to put on a ND jersey, and those kids should be rewarded for a very, very good year.

They made a bowl, but they have no one left to play. Iowa State and Kansas State declined too. Not just ND.

By ending their season now, they get extra time to focus on preparing for the transfer portal and look for staff replacements (if any staff leave or are pushed out).
For the players, it doesn’t risk injury for a meaningless game (now that espn has made the playoff the only thing that matters). That is relevant for players going to NFL draft, players who will return next year, and players who might transfer.
There is literally no benefit for a top level P2/P4 program to play in a bowl game anymore. They get plenty of money from other sources. Players are paid enough that schools want to protect them. And even the big bowls are just exhibition games with rosters that have multiple opt outs every year.

There are a lot more kids than that who play. More practice etc with a bowl. ESPN makes money on these bowl games.

I'm fine with ND sitting at home. Much better than FSU going to the Orange Bowl with Backups and getting embarrassed. Stay home if you don't want to go. Has nothing to do with the broadcaster only the drive of the team.

Do you remember what happened after the 2000 season? VT was sent down to the Gator even though we had a 11-1 record, in order for an over rated ND team to get the Fiesta Bowl which ND was destroyed by Oregon State.

drop the conference championship games where only 2 teams from the conference can play. The system is simply outdated and if it wasn't for nostalgia, people would not be playing them. Start practice a week earlier in the summer. Also make the early signing day right before practice starts.
Preseason Neutral site possible games that are OOC like Bowl Games:
Nebraska Oklahoma
Virginia Tech West Virginia
ND USCw
UVA UMD, you may not that one, but pick another one
etc
16 team playoff no buys, but top 8 get a home game. Have Thanksgiving weekend for Conference Rivalries, and the next weekend play Army Navy only and everybody else gets a bye to get ready for the playoff. Have the playoff done by the first Monday in January. Start the portal after that. No coach can leave a team until after the National Championship has been played, the NFL already has a rule like this in place.

Teams shouldn't go to bowl games if they don't want to be there. I wish FSU would have opted out of the Orange Bowl when they thought the committee snubbed them 2 years ago rather than play it half assed. That was bad.

How is it a FU to the ACC? A game will be played, an ACC team will take it for some $$ payout.
This just screams elitist attitude - and the perfect example of what causes ND hate.
FTR - I get some of the angst from the process with Alabama - it happens. FSU went undefeated and got left out.
Surprise! Being "ND" doesn't automatically exclude you from the occasional raw deal, but most don't cry, take their ball and go home to mommy who tells them they are special...
And why the irrational ACC hate? ACC did exactly what ND always does - looked out for themselves, promoted a football member over a non-member - why would they do anything different? We don't owe ND anything other than a home for their non-revs and a handful of football games every year...
ND lost to Miami - same record - same metrics. Period. End of Story.
There is no logic whatsoever they should have gotten in over Miami.

As for "giving the ACC the middle finger", Notre Dame did it to themselves by losing to Miami. When the playoffs go to 16, a 2-loss Notre Dame will have a much better chance of getting in.
