ND has a 10 year scheduling agreement with Clemson. get
a 10 year agreement with Miami, and maybe FSU, and it's all over but the crying. Join the Big East for Olympics, and they could then schedule anyone they want, in the ACC and B12 - any time they want.
A LOT of ND alumni in Arizona. A LOT in California, and it would hurt them to pick up a Texas team for recruiting.
They could do that in a heartbeat, and the ACC fans better wake up, or they could lose ND.

The ACC pays ND ~$20M annually. The new Big East TV deal is around $8M/per school annually. Not to mention the exit fee ND would owe the ACC.
ND should be more appreciative of the ACC. The Big Ten and SEC aren't going to bend over backwards to accommodate the Irish's desire to be independent in football.

Navy home game next year. Navy has never played ND in Annapolis.
Navy controls the ticket sales and always opts for big, NFL stadiums to boost its athletic budget off the ND game.
ND played Wisconsin at Soldier Field previously. This Lambeau Field game is Part 2 of that neutral/neutral site deal.

So they move their home games against ND to bigger venues. I think it would be fun to see ND play them in Annapolis, but they want the bigger ticket opportunity. Not surprising.
I'm repeating what you said, but it's not anything really that new. Baltimore and Philly were the destinations, but Navy has spread out from those.

then later canceled due to scheduling restrictions (i.e. Navy being required to play Air Force and Army every year). It is too bad the game couldn't be played because it would have been fun to see Notre Dame play in that iconic stadium.

It appears they would be much more comfortable in the Big East and cobbling together a football schedule. It was a mutually beneficial relationship for a number of years but it appears to have run its course.

is from their football games. They get $75M for 6 or 7 home games. at 6 home games, that works out to $12.5M per home game. The ACC gets 4 of ND away games. That adds up to being worth about $50M per year, based on ND's current media deal. Pretty sure the ACC is getting the better deal.
The ACC is not the only game in town. How much would Fox pay in the B12 for a few ND games a year? (just an example, as I do not believe that ND would go to the B12). The point however, is a solid one. 2030/31 is right around the corner, and new media deals will be worked out for the BIG and the B12. The SEC a year later or so, and the ACC not until 2036.
ND can EASILY make up the difference.

ND isn't in the ACC for football, they just play some teams. If they want to end that agreement and pull their other sports ok I guess. A piece of unsolicited advice for the Big 12, don't bring ND in as a partial member; leads to problems.
Would love to set up some kind of Big 12/ACC challenge in football.

What benefit does the ACC get from ND? In all sports other than football they are just another team. In football they demand special treatment. Why?

So there is that, and the ACC makes money on the 2-3 football games per year played at ACC schools. But if they don't want to be here then they should go. Jim Phillips took a lot of heat for not lobbying hard for FSU with the Committee in 2023, so he tried harder this time for Miami. I cannot fault him for that.

today. He was hired when AD’s were hired, now this is media first landscape, he is about a step behind on things like this. I want B12 teams, but I don’t want to be in the B12 or merge with the Big East. I do have to give Yormark credit for handling the media situation way better than Phillips. The ACC needs a media guy running the ACC. We should have hired a John Skipper like guy a while back when you first suggested it, but definitely need to do it today ASAP!!
I am hoping ND gets us a new commissioner!!!

I've not thought Jim Phillips is agressive enough for what the ACC needs. I'm just thinking about all that open space between the ACC and the west. The Big XII is sitting in it.

For them it is all take and no give. They believe that they are special and that the ACC should be willing to give them whatever they want out of the joy of having them grace us with their presence. In this case the ACC simply stood up for one of its own. They did exactly what any other business would have done. ND is just shocked that the battered spouse finally got up off the floor and stood up for themselves.

That said, why Phillips didn't go after Bama with the 31-17 FSU win over them, and FSU having a losing season in the ACC and overall, I will never understand.

Yes we have a scheduling arrangement for 5 games, and we'd lose that. But we really don't have them in the league for football. For the non-football sports, I wouldn't like losing the men's lacrosse. But we made due before we had ND.
It's up to ND what they want to do. They are making it apparent that they don't want to ever join.

ND has been telling the world for decades that football would not join a conference. Pete Bevacqua said it again yesterday.
