One interesting (to me) thing in the 16 regionals...
...was that the Winners bracket champ (i.e. the team that won their first two games) was 11-5 in that first crack at beating the team who emerged from the Losers bracket. In all 5 cases where they lost the first time, they also lost the second game and coughed up the regional.
Some of them were pretty improbable collapses at home, too, like GT and Florida.

Cubs fan here, I love Ian to death.
The fans always get on him when he goes through cold stretches at the plate, but his year-end numbers are always fine to good and he's as good a defensive LF as there is right now. Just a solid, reliable pro, never gonna embarrass the club, smart, good leader, and cares about the fans. I hope he and Nico Hoerner are both Cubs For Life.

Yeah, I definitely don't want to know about Civil War vets in my family.
Like finding out you're descended from Nazis, no thanks. đŦ

Sounds like he and some key allies were set to overhaul the BOV rules...
...to do away with term limits and set himself up to basically run the BOV for life (or as long as he wanted). More to the point, it was going to allow him to stay in charge long enough to prevent the new appointees from having a meaningful say on the next president. And even MORE to the point, it increasingly looks like the plan was to install Youngkin as that president (as others have been hinting around at here since Sands announced he was retiring early - which also now looks like an orchestrated ouster by Roco to meet his desired timeline to pull this off).
So, that is all pretty obviously psycho behavior. If you have to change the rules to keep yourself in power indefinitely in order to bring about a certain outcome, then whatever it is you're doing is almost certainly inherently corrupt.
I want the university to figure out what they're doing with athletics as much as anybody. But it can't happen like this, with a guy essentially staging a coup on the entire leadership structure of the school. Just bonkers, lunatic stuff.

So in addition to pushing Sands out...
...it looks like he orchestrated changes to the BOV rules that would've allowed him to serve an extra term as head of the BOV and exert undue influence over the selection of the next president (basically freezing out her new appointees from having a say).
She does seem to be doing a speed run of how to piss off everybody in the state on both sides of the aisle, but this guy seems like a menace that had to be dealt with. I know he's a big supporter of the athletic success at the university, but you can't just be totally out of pocket like this.

I was just telling somebody the other day that I would do this non-stop...
...if I played for the Spurs. Just constantly sailing passes out of bounds to nobody lol.

I think they actually swept us the year they won it all...
...but we did beat them in C'ville the year before when they were the #1 overall seed in the tournament and lost to UMBC.

For a reason!
I do think we've gone too far in the other direction, especially in the middle innings of low scoring games fwiw. And it's possible that here we were specifically trying to take advantage of a known defensive weakness of ND.
But regardless of the strategic value of bunting there, Notre Dame's was the greater sin. Take the out, woof.

When the other team gives you an out in the 6th inning...
...of a high scoring game, you happily take it, boys and girls. ND with a world class screwup there.

Only thing crazier than bunting this early in a game where 20+ runs...
...will probably be scored is ND not just happily going to first for the easy out.

NC State kicking game was solid today with 4 FGs...
...and their defense wasn't terrible, but ultimately they just couldn't get the ball in the end zone. Duke with the upset, 21-12.

Oh just the impression that I get from the discussion here and other places
I definitely have no idea. The vibe is, like, maybe .500 overall? But tbf who knows.

Based on the Massey ratings...
...and I can promise you that there is no analysis going on in any NCAA selection committee that is more mathematically sound than these ratings, the only teams that got ripped off from a hosting standpoint were:
* Texas Tech, who he has 7th (Tennessee, who he has 11th, got their top 8 seed)
* Virginia Tech, who he has 14th (OK State, who he has 17th, got our hosting slot)
Of note, he has UCLA ranked 3rd and FSU 10th, so the fact that they were agonizing over those two teams for the final top 8 slot is kind of crazy. It should've been close between Texas Tech, Florida, Tennessee, and FSU for the 7th and 8th spots.
Anyway, selection committees for playoffs are dumb and unnecessary and I hope our ladies are unbothered by it all. So grateful for their efforts this year!

Same. I think I have a humiliation kink...
...about this, because I love it when my top row ends up being rainbow when I fall for the gimmick. I'd rather have that than getting it in 4/4 lol.

I mean, as opposed to the coaches who don't need good coordinators?
There are no cfb head coaches out there killing it with mediocre or worse coordinators.

Fitting end. Flyers run their shootout record to 10-4.
Caps SO record is 2-6. Story of the season basically.

Yeah it seems great if you're using it to find out something...
...about which you have zero knowledge. But when you ask it about something you have a lot of experience with it's pretty obvious and alarming how often it states something factually that is just completely wrong.
People at my job are always agitating to use it and I'm like cool, absolutely, as long as you're okay with 30-40% of it being total bollocks.

I just think it's wildly obvious that our two best sports...
...are the ones that have mechanisms for support and leadership external to the athletic department. The SERTC and Chip are carrying the mail for VT sports.
Not sure what value the folks in the actual AD office are bringing to the table right now tbqh.

Whoa, that is crazy that it happened not just when UConn was a 1...
...but when they were a 2 and 3 also. đŗ
I think I'd start taking it personally, too.
