One interesting (to me) thing in the 16 regionals...
...was that the Winners bracket champ (i.e. the team that won their first two games) was 11-5 in that first crack at beating the team who emerged from the Losers bracket. In all 5 cases where they lost the first time, they also lost the second game and coughed up the regional.
Some of them were pretty improbable collapses at home, too, like GT and Florida.

Let's say VT had beaten Cal Poly (because, as we came to see, they really actually that good, but they had a great run in L.A.). So then let's say VT followed with a win over St. Mary's to advance to the final. Then ...
Do you really think VT would have had enough pitching left on Sunday/Monday to win one more line, likely against UCLA?

wins the title - sure, duh if the 2-0 team wins the first one but when the team coming out of the loser's bracket wins that first game, they are more than likely to win the second - it's a momentum thing.
