Posting History (1,217)

They both, particularly the Big 10

need to "digest" their new members. That process may be complete by the time the ACC's exit fees get to much lower levels. Is this a controlled demolition?

Big historical bee***e here.

If it’s England v Spain on Sunday, winner gets Gibraltar.

Great movie with a couple of plot flaws…

Why would the Germans respect exit visas signed by General DeGaulle?!

The key for equal revenue sharing was Wellington Mara of the NY Giants

agreeing to abide by a league wide TV contact, ie. the terms of the Sports Broadcasting Act. The men who ran the NFL and AFL were true visionaries.

Well, the Ottomans had a long period of decline, the β€œsick man of Europe”

so they weren’t really seen as a driver in 19th-early 20th century power politics, maybe that’s a factor. Their long existence also complicates the only the West are colonizers narrative as well. Let’s ask a Greek.

I’ve met a Bosnian but I don’t know that I’ve met

a Hercegovinian. Thought that Hercegovina died as a historical entity with the Archduke or maybe Marshal Tito.

When did we have to start saying β€œTurkey” like

Christopher Moltisanti saying β€œdidn’t?” ** Edited by mancunian at 6/25/2026, 12:38:52 PM

The real disgrace is the colleges have

known about this demographic cliff for 15+ years and haven’t done anything about it: administrative bloat, useless programs, no real controls on spending etc. Some of the Ivies have a 1:1 student/administrator ratio, that’s nuts

You guys see this?

Overall brand value. Look how many

commercials have UNC gear in them. I can't stand UNC, how they got away with having a fake major for athletes blows my mind, but they're the tits so far as value.

UNC is the most valuable non P2 school/property

excepting ND. Both the SEC and Big 10 would snatch UNC up in a heartbeat.

I like it. My only quibble with you is on

Stanford, they could be big time if they choose to; SMU as well. But yeah, I'm thinking something like this is a real possibility. I think Saban let the cat out of the bag on Gameday last year when he referenced a 30 team superleague. The top of the SEC and Big 10 would have no problem with jettisoning the bottom of their respective conferences.

So you're talking about a Big 12/ACC football centric

mashup? That's been floated a few times, not a bad idea, I'd be ok with it assuming conferences are still a thing by the early-mid 2030s.

I think ND ends up in whatever secessionist

super league for football that gets formed in the early 2030s, this belief is based on no information whatsover.

14 straight division titles is insane.

Totally underrated historic achievement. Those Braves teams should’ve won a couple more world championships.

Great promoter and sharp business mind

Won the America's Cup in 1977, huge impact with CNN and other cable ventures. Also.".In 1976, Atlanta Braves pitcher Andy Messersmith wore a jersey with "Channel 17" on the back instead of his name, a publicity stunt by owner Ted Turner to promote his superstation, WTBS. The stunt lasted only a few games before MLB Commissioner Bowie Kuhn prohibited it, citing rules against, advertising on uniforms." ** Edited by mancunian at 5/6/2026, 1:09:54 PM

Normally I subscribe to Mike Wilbon's belief

that "not everything's a big deal" but the Duke-Amazon thing seems like a big deal. A fire bell in the night? The Giants signing Pete Gogolak in 1966?

Football centric merger between

the ACC and Big 12 makes sense; I know you posted about it recently and its intrigued me for a while.

You know the Browns were preparing to move to

Los Angeles for the 1942 season? Move was supposed to be announced the week of 12-8-1941.

ABA, Utah Stars

there was a spate of guys going straight to the pros in the 70s...Bill Willoughby, Darryl Dawkins, then none until Kobe.
