Pete Bevacqua interview on the ACC Notre Dame relationship

him *****ing about the Irish being left out of the playoffs and attacking the ACC makes him and the university look like a bunch of crybabies and further puts Notre Dame vs. the world (Power 4 schools). The ACC has to take care of their "fulltime" members before taking care of Notre Dame. I'm sure the ACC would 100% support a Notre Dame bubble team (basketball or any of their other 21 sports teams in the ACC) getting into the NCAA Tournament. The more Notre Dame *****es, the more disliked they will become. Maybe Notre Dame doesn't care if everyone else hates them (ND Football) but this isn't a good PR move for them. IMHO, what Notre Dame learned yesterday is that they either need to become a fulltime member of a Power 4 conference or go 12-0 or no worse than 11-1 in the regular season as a football independent.

It all came down to head to head games. Plus, the CFP owed the ACC big time by not having FSU in the CFP a couple of years ago. It will be interesting to see what is the E(SEC)PN's take on this

been bothered by what others have seen as entitlement. But they seem to be showing their collective ass of late. That's disappointing.

They are too gutless to attack the greed of the P2 and their respective primary networks because they may eventually need them as a lifeboat for scheduling and or membership. So scapegoat the "partner" who is fighting against odds for their very existence.
Yeah the ACC could have been a tad less specific in its lobbying for Miami but it ultimately had zero to do with the committees tortured decision and ND knows it.

It was $13 well spent. Should arrive by next Monday.
Honestly; all of this juvenile huffing and puffing is likely a pretext to cover Bevacquaâs plan to move more of Notre Dameâs âassetsâ to his former employer, NBC. I think that plan has been in the works for quite a long time.
The ACC is probably dead man walking in five to eight years with or without Notre Dame. Crying over the ACC promoting one of its football members is or should be embarrassing for the fathers in South Bend, but it is what it is. Making this controversy a talking point for exit fee negotiations is pretty weak, silly stuff.
Maybe Notre Dame can find places to send its non-rev athletes in the future. If so, the Irish can knock themselves out. None of their options will be as good as having the ACC banner over those sports, even if only for five to eight more years.
There will always be schools that will line up for the opportunity to see those shiny helmets in their own stadium, even if it is only just a nostalgia show. If Bevacqua wants to pout and play the bully, he can do whatever he wants.

Would it lead to any changes in terms of realignment?
No.

with any or all of it. NDâs 2-3 games a year on ESPN to help our contract, versus the 150+ ACC games, is wayyy overrated. They arenât coming full time, get rid of this divisive arrangement.

if their AD is going to go to the media to complain and slam the ACC for doing what they are supposed to do, they can hit the road. The P2 isn't giving them that deal. The Big XII is constantly rearranging the deck chairs. Good luck getting the benefit of the doubt partnering with those guys.

ACC, or the SEC. A non football conference like the Big East is right up their ally. They can schedule anyone they want in the ACC or B12, anytime they want.
BTW, the B12 did shuffle their chairs. So did the PAC, BIG, and SEC. Wonder who is next?

may be dropped. It's not like the ACC has hockey, so in those sports that are not sponsored, there is precedent that affiliation could still remain with the ACC. Oklahoma wrestling would be a good example, as they continue to be affiliated with the B12.

in FY 2026-27. It will sponsor 19 sports (8 men's and 11 women's). Given that it will have 8 schools that sponsor football, it will retain its FBS eligibility on Day 1. It should be able to retain the Pac-12's automatic bids to both NCAA basketball tournaments on Day 1. If not, then it might have to wait 1 year to fulfill the requirements similar to what happened to the MWC when it formed. Since the conference is adding Dallas Baptist, Southern Utah, and Northern Illinois for specific Olympic sports, the conference should be able to retain the conference's automatic bids to the various NCAA tournaments for those sports.

does this summarize your collective gripes?
"Itâs hard to know where Notre Dameâs relationship with the ACC goes from here, or how much of the pettiness on the part of the conference will be forgotten. The official ACC Football account taking aim at the Irishâs resume on X and the ACC Network showing Notre Dame-Miami 13 times last week donât need to leave scars.
Notre Dameâs real concern should be the competence of a conference that allowed its championship game to be played between Virginia and five-loss Duke. The league failed to put in place a system that got Miami to the conference title game, opening the door for James Madison to steal a bid. Thatâs strategic mismanagement.
The league could have avoided alienating Notre Dame simply by having the foresight to put guardrails in place to get its best teams to its marquee event. Instead of Notre Dame and Miami in the CFP, the ACC put in place protocols that led to Notre Dame or Miami."

Honestly, I just don't understand the animosity of the fans on this board.

the conference one is not a full team member. Team our practice is three hours, but Billy Bob, your practice is only an hour. Eventually it splits the team up, and causes an implosion.
(In response to this post by Big12 guy)

As a full member of a conference eventually. Over the years that has been proven to be completely false. I noticed the shift a few years back and it has gotten worse. I as a result got more combative.

we underrated the TerryDâs at NDđ¤Ŗ. Even though ND gave hints they would eventually join a Conference and they preferred the ACC. The expansion beyond the 4 team playoff killed any chance of them joining a conference, and now I donât care what they do. However, anybody can see this relationship is very divisive for the ACC, or whomever they were to partner with as a conference.
I either see the Commissioner being fired, or ND going back to full time đ independence, or both.

Independent. You probably have to go back to either the '80s or '70s to find an example where an Independent made the field in either the men's or women's tournament. The non-revenue sports may be able to skate by as an Independent. Although it is worth noting that Notre Dame didn't think its men's ice hockey team could survive as an Independent, so it is a member of a conference and now in the Big Ten.

VT figures it has 2-3 years to become relevant enough in football to be picked up by B1G or SEC. What ND does or does not do has no impact on that.
In the ACC there was hope that ND would eventually join in football. But that isn't happening and without that the ACC as it once was, is doomed.
So the drama going on right now is getting a little press, but none of the members are wringing their hands if ND wants to pull out of the conference.

Especially after the FSU/Clemson settlements, and its ramifications on the de-escalating conference exit fee and rights ownership, anyone with the capacity for abstract thought understands that the ACC will be a G5 joke here in about 3 or 4 years. Disney and FOX are going to pick whatever meat they want off the carcass, and leave the rest to rot.
This little tiff with Notre Dame is little more than salty piss on the ACC's grave, and, frankly, I think it's just pretext for them to set up the betrayal that everyone paying attention already knows is coming. Anyone that actually thinks Notre Dame had any real long term plan for commitment to the ACC is completely naive. Does anyone really think Notre Dame was going to continue to fulfil a 5 game scheduling commitment when they would be playing Wake Forest, Syracuse, Boston College, Duke, and SMU? It's laughable.

with the Big East would allow the ACC to become king in the sport that is nearest and dearest in its heart. Whereas a merger with the Big XII doesn't accomplish that same goal because the Big XII's blood is not (round ball) "pure" with the exception to Kansas.

And the Big XII has done it somewhat too that merger really would create a Nationwide Conference. We've already taken out of the Big East most of what the ACC needs.
(In response to this post by VTHokie2000)

truly has never embraced the "football culture" even going back to the "FSU and 8 Dwarf" days. A merger with the Big XII won't change that for the ACC schools who have completely bought in to the "basketball culture" that the ACC brand was built on. The addition of Big XII teams won't suddenly make BC, Syracuse, Pitt, UVA, Duke, Wake, UNC, NC State, GT, Cal, Stanford, and Miami be passionate about football to SEC-like levels which is probably required if the ACC wants to change how people perceive it as a football conference. I included Miami on the list because their fans won't travel outside of South Beach compared to how they were in the '80s and '90s. For the state schools, they should have the best chance to get off the list because they should have a large fan base (minus maybe GT and quasi Pitt) to tap into as a fuel resource. They just have to figure out how to get their fan base to be equally passionate about the oval ball as they are about the round ball.

If they dont join. Their strength of schedule would be even worse in Big 12 relationship. Also where would their Soccer, Lacrosse, Women's sports non revenues play? This would be the ultimate join us ultimatum. If they dont want to join they risk scheduling any ACC Big East teams in the future. That would be a hard pill to swallow.
