Bama lost last night 28-7, lost 31-17 to 5-7 (2-6 Conf) FSU, 3 total losses
for Bama versus Miami and ND having 2. Why are people focusing on Miami getting in over ND? Miami beat ND, that's not who ND should be saying ripped them off! It is Bama, but how many times have you heard them or the talking heads talk about these three things I listed? Crickets for the most part. The SEC/ESPN Bias Blinders are a live and well, Mr. and Mrs. Objectivity have left the room. 5 teams from the SEC, 3 teams from the B1G that has won the National Championship two years in a row...and we are upset the ACC got 1 team in?

Mr. & Mrs. Objectivity can't get the job done
There's no nice, neat way to do this that's "right." It's highly subjective and there's really no way around that. Sure, you can make your arguments against 'Bama. You can also argue those 3 vs. 2 losses only happened because 'Bama was good enough to make it to a 13th game...and Miami wasn't. You could also list 'Bama's best wins alongside those of ND and Miami and I'm thinking 'Bama would compare pretty well. And if you value objectivity, I'm not sure why what conference won the national championship the last two years matters.

Why are you POed at the ACC? You aren't a member of ACC football.
You said you wanted to go it alone in football, so why are you mad the ACC supported a football member's inclusion over a non-football member? Seriously!

Yeah I don't get it either. Go yell at Bama and the SEC.
Or get mad at both JMU and Tulane being included. Or flounce off in a huff. Getting mad at the ACC for advocating for a FULL member isn't rational. ** Edited by mancunian at 12/8/2025, 9:39:36 AM

kinda like if the ACC stumped for ND over Miami
it would be a very dumb business decision You have been right about this from the get-go; ND can and should act in its best self-interest, as should everyone else. I thought lack of conference affiliation would hurt ND football in the CFP more than it has. This is the first year it bit you and it looks like that won't happen again (why anyone agreed to that I don't know; but they did). As you said, the lesson this year is one too many losses for ND. The lesson for the ACC this year is dump the stupid internal tiebreakers. I think what is inevitable for the CFP is either dropping the conference title games and just taking the top-ranked X number of teams, or making them play-in games to an 8 team playoff. The notion that winning a conference title game gets you something but losing one doesn't cost anything is as dumb as guaranteeing top 12 ND a slot but not top 12 anyone else.

Exactly.
If they wanted, ND could remain "independent" and still share their CFP money with the ACC...right.... ACC had a business/fiduciary responsibility to their football members to get a football member in the CFP by any means necessary. Not being part of the ACC, ND football could wither and die - as long as we uphold our end of the agreement of a home for their non revs and provide a few football games each year. I'm sure we could negotiate further, particularly now since there is no other avenue for ND to get what they want - football independence with a good path to the CFP and a good home for non revs. IMHO the ACC has more leverage here than they think. The ridiculous new "special" rule (MOU) is palatable in a year like this one that includes both JMU and Tulane - but IF the portal era parity ever gets us back to a year where the each of the P4 have an average of 2-3 top 15 teams - and ND is 9-3/10-2 - that "automatic special rule" will cause a justifiable meltdown.

For not being good? Fair. So are we.
For crappy officiating? Fair. So are we. For a ridiculous tie breaker? Fair. So are we. But you can't have it both ways. ND can't crave independence with none of the responsibilities - adherence to rules/schedule applying to them - but then also want input on what those rules/schedules are. Don't tell the ACC how to pick a conference champ unless you want that to apply to ND For backing Miami instead of ND - or not backing ND - well, someone on here once said we should always do what is right for the ACC regardless of what ND does - we shouldn't count on them - We did.

Maybe blame the league that got its 5th best team in the field
Honestly, I thought Notre Dame fans were smarter. The number of Irish fans sounding off against the ACC is ridiculous when Greg Sankey is out there telling everyone with a microphone that seven SEC schools ought to make the field. And we get riveting games like an Alabama-Oklahoma rematch. Please. If Notre Dame has a gripe, it is with Sankey, Bama and Oklahoma. Do better. ** Edited by Tailgate Guru at 12/7/2025, 9:26:28 PM

Exactly. It’s the SEC that should get the blame spotlight
Bama definitely could/should have been left out. Ole Miss could have been considered for exclusion since they have had changes that make them not as good (wasn’t that the rationale used against FSU just two years ago?). Within a 12 team playoff, no conference should get more than 4 teams. Even the NFL recognizes the need for spreading out the playoff inclusions even if it means a weaker team gets in.

I have come around to believe only conference champions should get in
If you can’t win your own conference, you have no business playing for a national championship. It diminishes the regular season, which is what makes college football great. There should be no special rules to accommodate Notre Dame. But if so, let them in if they go unbeaten and then make them play a play-in game at the home field of the weakest G5 participant.

If conferences were small enough to have significant to total overlap
Across everyone's schedules, I'd agree. But that's far from the world we live in today. Is an ACC champion based on an 8-game schedule in a 17-team league really all that meaningful?

The ACC has accommodated Notre Dame in just about everything in the last
decade plus. Miami deserves in over ND and frankly, the ACC should be lobbying for their football members when it comes to the CFP. ND can be mad at the CFP and ESPN all they want. But the ACC? Nah.

I've said for years that the people who capitalize off of the controversy
that the failed system creates, have no interest in fixing it. And it just so happens that the same power players exploiting the controversy, are also the ones in charge of the system. The power brokers want to pick the winners and losers. They don't want things settled on the field, and they don't want to give real access to those who won't make them money.

If it was Mississippi State rather than Alabama with the exact same resume,
MSU would have been out. Only an equivalent Blueblood could knock ND out of the spot. BTW, I would have put ND in over Bama. But for ND to think it a farce when they have been receiving inflated bowl and CFP bids for decades is choice. 2001 Fiesta Bowl anyone? ** Edited by Maroon Baboon at 12/7/2025, 7:32:09 PM

Probably not. But all games are data. And mailing in a CCG should cost ya.
This idea that you shouldn't be punished for results of a championship game is ridiculous. Had they played UGa tough (perhaps more than -3 yards rushing), I wouldn't have had any problem overlooking the loss.

That is the issue......
how should conference championship games be judged? There are a number of thoughts on that question. Action by conferences on those games will only be taken when the results of that game potentially cost a conference more money than it makes off the game. Right now it would seem only the ACC and Big 12 are in a position where that calculation might become a reality.
