If he really means week 0 type games that are separate from the season then it doesn't make sense. 1. Currently bowls are not part of the regular season. They are technically extra exhibition games. 2. The bowls used to work for interest because it gave people a reason to travel during cold winter weeks. People are not going to give up their summer vacations to travel to "bowl games" in August (unless they are just more neutral site games labeled as bowls). 3. bowls work for tv because lots of people are off from work and stuck at home during the holidays (and stuck inside due to cold in many places) and it gives them something to watch. They had far less competition. But August has vacations and school starting and lots of distractions.

I love college football and have nothing better to do in December, yet I've been largely ignoring bowls in recent years. Week 0 Bowl Week would be far more compelling. As for travel, I have to think that's decreasing with no end in sight as the current setup becomes increasingly useless. Teams don't even want to travel for them anymore.

The P4 neutral site games would very close to number you have in bowl season. By the way, there will probably be nothing stopping a P4 IMHO from doing a home and away, or G6 to do a neutral site game. However, there are only so many neutral sites, so expect some home and away matchups would help with attendance in the G6.

games? If they are going to do home and away games, then how likely will it end up becoming a home-home series? At least I would think most (maybe all) ADs of the "away" team would like the opportunity to play the "home" team in their stadium and benefit from all the revenue generated from that game. Plus, what is to prevent a team from end up playing 2 home games or away games in back-to-back seasons? I mean the whole idea of bowl games is the opportunity for 2 teams to play a game in a neutral site. Now you are talking about moving the bowl games to the beginning of the season AND playing some of those games in a team's stadium too. It seems like you have kind of defeated the whole purpose of the bowl game.

If they are a member of a conference that is perceived to be tough (or deep), then may have cracked the formula on giving themselves the best chance to make the FBS Playoffs most years. If no one writing the checks is calling for change to the status quo, then why rock the boat? If fans want their school to treat football like a big business, then just maybe the status quo for OOC scheduling is the best business decision the school can make. Otherwise, we would see more P4s scheduling 2-4 OOC games against P4 schools every year. Instead, there have only been a handful of times since 1990 when a P4 has scheduled all their OOC games against P4 opponents. Even opting for 3-of-4 (if playing 8 conference games) or 2-of-3 (if playing 9 conferences games) may not be that high of percentage during that time. If change is going to occur, then all P4 conferences will need some sort of incentive to change their requirements from 1 P4 OOC game each year to 2 P4 OOC games each year. That change may have become tougher to implement since the conferences are switching to 9 conference games and the scheduling issue that comes up in years when teams are scheduled to play 5 away conference games.

Bowl games are TV shows first and foremost. They are great TV inventory around Christmas-especially when there are teams with no rooting interest- specifically G5 teams. There is a game every day-maybe 2. Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday- all the typically non Football days. So there is a game always on, and it doesn't matter who is playing. What's better for avoiding the relatives than a TV football game with evenly matched MAC and Sunbelt teams, sloppily playing a game that goes down to the wire?? These are not rewards for successful seasons (unless 7 wins is the most wins you'd team has had in years) nor are they displays of football excellence. They are TV inventory filler for the holiday season. They are too valuable there to move anywhere else on the calendar. Enjoy them for what they are.
