This ends with him having enough success at SCar to be hired at VT once
Heβs eventually fired. And it doesnβt take long in the SEC once you raise expectations.
And frankly, I think many VT fans have held a good opinion of Shane, but though he needed to go somewhere else and establish himself before he was considered for the VT head job. May just work out in the end.

They played very hard, but they didn't make the plays when needed. I don't
subscribe to the game being stolen. If you are relying on a hail mary, you get exact that.
They had plenty of chances to stop MIA on the final drive, they didn't.
They had the ball, 2 mins, and two timeouts, to get a game winning TD, they played slow and conservative, didn't utilize the clock well, and only made it in position for a hail mary. Just not good enough.
Love the effort and intensity, wish it was there for Vandy and Rutgers, would be better than 2-3 record if it was.

The double number thing is getting ridiculous. They don't play 99 guys.
No double numbers. The team is more important, guys egos are secondary. Guys need to take less desirable numbers so this doesn't keep happening. Cost us a win in Nashville, could have been monstrous in this game. So Silly.

VT fan base partially to blame IMO. Clamored very loudly for βnice guyβ
Type and thatβs what we ended up with

I disagree with this. Injuries are no doubt part of the game, but to say
they affect each team equally just isn't accurate. It's a nice platitude to say you just have to push through, but it's empty. Injuries absolutely affect your team. The number of injuries, the positions they affect, the talent level of the player that's injured, the experience level of the player that injured, the length of time they are out, the depth at that position, etc.
You think the NYJ have the same ceiling with Zach Wilson as they did with Rodgers? That's only one injury but it's a huge one.

Great opportunity to play Drones without demoting/embarrassing Wells
Wells is nicked up. Play Drones, if he succeeds, can continue to play him without "benching" Wells. If he doesn't, chance to go back to Wells when healthy.

Player blocking 20 yards downfield, runner cuts behind him after
running more than 10 yard, gets tackled and rolled up on the WR blocking downfield, and that's on the coaches?
Just when you thought you heard everything

So 4 permanent rivals, and then you play the rest of the league
one of out of every three years. Not too bad. That's probably the ticket with an 8 game schedule.
If they go to 9, the 7-7-2 is probably the right solution.

ACC in a touch spot, they are criticized either way,
if they expand is stupid based on geography and teams, if they don't expand, then they are criticized for setting themselves up for Pac12 implosion if FSU/Clem leave.

Feel good about him. This quote from Pry really says it all "
βIβve said it all along: Itβs hard to evaluate a quarterback when you donβt protect him well enough, you canβt run the ball effectively, you canβt get open,β Pry said. βI think youβre just asking too much of him. So weβre in a better place that way. Weβre not where we want to be, but we have more guys that can make plays. We have a better opportunity to move the football.β
Wells has more weapons this year, let's give him the support out of the gate. If his first month is up and down against this competition, the light may never come on for him and time to give Drones a shot.

$72M plus 1/2 ACCN revenue increase. Won't know what that is until
end of season, but I think if they can create an equitable way to both cover expenses plus performance incentives, may just close the gap enough to pipe FSU down for a few years when the market can be re-evaluated

Tomorrow~no. If ACC blows up and no invite from B10 or SEC, then yes
Honestly, the way things have gone down with the Pac10 folding, I think VT is in it's best position yet. I still think a very good chance at B10 or SEC invite, and if that doesn't materialize, I know the B12 would be happy to get VT, and frankly, I think that would be a competitive and compelling football and hoops league.

from ESPN "What's next for ACC, Florida State?" (link)
Not much new, but I did find this interesting:
"hat was certain was there were votes in favor of expansion (Notre Dame, Wake Forest, Louisville, Miami, Georgia Tech) and votes opposed (Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina) and swing votes in between. Another administrator thought enough of the 15 voting presidents would swing to yes and get the required 12 to approve expansion.
Once the call started, it became clear that would not be the case. No official vote was taken. In straw polling, the fourth school opposed was NC State, according to multiple sources."
We'll never know if VT was yes or no, been reported both ways, but sounds like they just stayed undecided, no need to show their hand.

Hard pass on any option that doesn't include 5 conf champs
You know the moment it's top 12 ranked teams, 11 of them will be BIG/SEC
Conference Realignment Board

Hard pass. I don't want to do anything more for ND. Done with the favors
for them. If they want to join full, then great. If not, so be it, but no more concessions. And absolutely not on ACCCG game access without a full conference slate.

Other boards reporting a different 5 teams. We'll never know.
and very doubtful Arizona guy has a handle on this

Of course they are, they want to use 1 or 2 of
Theyβre 5 ACC games per year on Stanford and/or Cal, helps free up their schedule while still fulfilling ACC commitment. Typical ND.

Could easily mitigate the ND issue by not allowing Cal/SMU to get ND until
new deal in 2036. Stanford already plays them.

SEC with interest in FSU, not Miami. Names Clemson and UNC as well (link)
Doesn't mention VT, but says UVA better fit for B10. Can't imagine SEC expanding and not wanted state of Virginia presence.

Nah, just two year in a row at VT and it stays on schedule
You swap just the β22 and β23 games. The game being canceled this year is now UVAβs home game that is canceled

It's November, this is when you develop depth and rotation.
Obviously want to win though, so it's a balancing act early
Football Board
3 y ago
OK with them canceling, but they need to swap home&home with us so we
dont lose our home game and revenue
Football Board

Who is Fuentes? Serious though, we can't just get out of ACC by snapping
our fingers. First we have to have a new home to go to. Second, we would need about $120M conference buyout plus potentially another $350-50M for TV rights. Ain't gonna happen, so while I understand your sentiment, just not realistic.

I agree, they are more attractive than some, but not all. My point was
their President saying something out loud doesn't improve their position, it's just a publicity stunt meant to ease the anxiety of FSU fans. He could accomplish everything he said without saying he's doing it to the national media.

Agreed. Continue to have ND relationship under current TV deal,
but make plans as if ND won't be there. If they need to be aggressive and expand, then do so. But no decisions for the ACC should be made thinking ND will be in the picture, and they shouldn't be involved in the discussions.

FSU has a loud mouth, but they aren't in any better position than
about 10 other ACC schools. They don't have some magic bullet that's not available to Clem, UNC, UVA, VT, MIA, NCST, PITT, GT, Louisville.
Every ACC school wants more money to compete. Every ACC school realizes the uncertainty of expansion and the financial gap between ACC and SEC/BIG. Every ACC school is diligently working to put themselves in the best position possible. FSU is just the loud mouth of the group. Not sure why their Prez is garnering so much attention.
Conference Realignment Board

I think these schools are stuck until within 5 years of 2036. Otherwise
some would have already left (Clem, FSU)

Do you have a specific quote or paragraph? I recall
reading that interview and didn't come away from it thinking it was anything realistically being discussed
