Big 10 supposedly already has vetted 10 teams
According to the article, the Big 10 has already vetted 10 teams - not too surprising who is on the list, though VT is not.

What even is "vetting" anyway? I mean, seriously đ¤Ŗ
Did they read the school's Wikipedia entry?
Did they watch a few of the school's football and basketball games?
Did they tour the campus (or "Grounds" in at least one case)?
Did they take an "official visit"?
Did they ask for their financial records?
Did they have FBI and state police background checks done on all the coaches and administrators? #NoMoreSanduskys
Kinda reminds me of the scene in "Moneyball" when Billy asked Pete to analyze 3 ball players on his first day on the job. But he did 61 instead.
Heck, we, the TSL board have "vetted" scores of potential candidates for the ACC. In fact, I even vetted Fresno State this year (You're welcome, Jim Phillips).
And what does this say about the Pac-12 schools who have been "vetted" by the B1G, but not offered an invitation? These schools are just sitting there cooling their heels. Can we move them to the "passed over" column?
And how long does this said vetting occur?
I remember some B1G talking heads saying that ONLY USC and UCLA were invited because the others weren't vetted yet. Sounds like BS to me.
And BTW, why are they "vetting" candidates from a conference that is under contract until 2036?
Another big talking point that comes from Flugaur and his ilk, is that "the schools wanting admission contact the Big Ten FIRST". If this is the case, why are they advertising the vetting of schools that haven't contacted the Big Ten? Especially the ones under contract until 2036?

along with a host of others point to the extreme absurdity and uselessness of the media coverage surrounding conference realignment discussions. How many moves with conference hopping have actually been broken in advance during the last 20 years? The answer, not many, and the number decreases if you eliminate those without other underlying agendas that leaked the info. These are largely transactions initiated and frameworks finalized out of sight. Most, if not all, the "reporting" being done is little more than clickbait with agendas by reporters with likely no better knowledge or connections than some message board posters. Flugaur gets what somebody in the B1G wants him to have and releases it as directed. People would be wise to consider sources, motives and possible agendas associated with whatever they read on most things these days and especially where conference realignment is concerned. That advice goes double for known trolls that now regularly show up on this board.

But Leave Pitt off the list because Penn State just abhors Pitt. And why leave Arizona and Colorado off the list? I guess now they can add Notre Dame and USF since they just got into the AAU. .
Of course they've vetted the AAU schools. That's who the Big Ten is.

How many people had Rutgers on their "Top Ten" list when that move happened. List are fun ( I update my SEC candidates regularly ), but they mean so very little.

What gets me is how so many think the Big 12...
is ahead of the ACC in pecking order and that when all the dust settles, the Big 12 will be part of the new Power 3.
The ACC has the advantages over the Big 12. Big 12 has lost Nebraska (once a football power), Texas A&M, Texas and Oklahoma. That's like the ACC losing Clemson, FSU, Miami and UNC.
The ACC has a national network called the ACCN. What does the Big 12 have?
ACC has a larger population within its geographic footprint. Sure the Big 12 added the state of Florida with UCF, but they are the #4 college football program in that state and the ACC has 2 of the 3 major football programs in that state, both bringing in a national audience.
IMHO, all the noise that we're hearing coming from the Big 12 is akin to a frightened dog barking loudly while pinned in the corner.

The PR from the Big XII about its payout that includes Texas/Oklahoma is to provide a smoke screen. There will be two more years of this I guess unless the Big XII is letting them out after this upcoming year.
Once they are gone the Big XII will drop down.

even have to be completely gone. When/IF named execs from the Big 12, ESPN and/or Fox get around to actually confirming and disclosing the details of a media agreement "reportedly" reached at the end of October 2022 it will be easier to sort fact from PR/Fiction.

Personally I think UVa is destined for the B1G and VT for the SEC.

Lost their AAU affiliation after joining. No disrespect meant to VT. It's a great school. I just feel that the academic snobs of the Big Ten will want UVa and will not need a second Virginia school. VT is a prime SEC school.

AAU membership is not a requirement, itâs just (in resume parlance) a desired skill.

If VT is otherwise a good choice for the B1G (and I personally donât think any ACC school really is), the B1G will choose VT. And would probably lobby other AAU schools to admit VT to maintain the whole AAU facade.

But if the Big Ten has a choice between them and VT they will choose UVa.

B1G presidents know itâs easy to be selective with 15k undergradsâĻand know UVaâs supposed academic prowess gets much harder when you have 2-3x the enrollment.
They also know that UVa - even with a flagship medical school - has a relatively small research program by B1G standards. And roughly the same size as VTâs.
The reason the B1G has remained strong and relevant - even with all of the outward population migration - is the sheer size of the schools and living alumni. He understand the power - financial, political and media - that comes with numbers.
By those measures - especially in light of VTâs inroads into the NoVa business community - could make VT look more appealing when looking at 2040, not 2010.
But again, I think every ACC school has at least 1 significant drawback with the B1G - and the SEC for that matter. Which is why all of the parsing on this board about who is the tallest midget is crazy talk.

doesnt mean the schools have zero leverage to decide if they go and with whom. Virginia and NC legislators and the respective BOVs are not asleep at the wheel .
If they had vetted VT (and maybe NCSU), the PR would only serve to weaken their negotiating position- they want to split states up. That is their opening gambit. They operate by fear. Fortunately (at least I hope) folks are on to this.

B1G- ND, UVa, UNC and Miami
SEC- FSU, Clemson, NC St and VT
If ND declines then either GT or Dook to B1G

1 being not sure in the least and 10 being, you know for a fact,

You won't hear about anything the B1G is doing until it's already been done.
I guarantee you the B1G has vetted more than just that and that more schools have reached out to the B1G than the B1G has actually vetted. And I don't even need a "source" for that. Just common sense.
(In response to this post by The_VT_Rock)
If the B1G is still sticking to the AAU meme, they are idiots.
And in fairness to them, Commissioner Warren said it wasn't a requirement. And Fluguar, not that he's an actual authority, said it on several occasions. One of those occasions being a discussion on a hypothetical OU to the B1G scenario.
AAU with their recent selections shows that its selection process is arbitrary and unserious. OTOH, did the B1G control the recent AAU invites for future B1G expansion purposes? If so, then the AAU is a bigger clown show than we thought.

The B1G will admit whoever they think is best for the B1G. If VT checks off every B1G box (and it doesnât) but AAU membership, itâll get an invite.
VT (and pretty much every ACC school) has much bigger issues with regard to getting a B1G invite than AAU membership.
