Connecting the dots on realignment (Greg Flugaur)
Could the ACC Presidents be using the threat of dissolving the conference to try and get more money from ESPN? The Minnesota man who was ahead of the realignment curve with his prediction of USC to the Big 10 could be ahead of the curve again by examining the comments recently made by ACC Presidents. Is the "Conference Dissolving Strategy" just a bluff or are ACC Presidents desperate enough to follow through on that threat? Clearly people of power are discussing it. See Link:

Difficult to imagine ACC surviving to 2036 with current media deal.

That’s the key, change the media deal
If the ACC can go to 16 football schools, and expand with two new states, then that should be enough to get some better terms from ESPN.

The problem is our deadwood.
You still have to feed the small private schools.

The ball is in ESPN court. They can hold you
Hostage and ensure discord the entirety of contract, or come back to the table. I doubt they give much more, but maybe they throw a couple more million at the ACC per school.

ESPN doesn't have to do a damn thing
but they are businessmen. They will renegotiate. What's bad for the ACC is also bad for them. Maybe they already plan to and that played a part in backing out of the B1G package. I think they will pony up more cash, but they will want something in return, of course. Do they want expansion? Maybe; give it to them. Do they have scheduling wants? That's reasonable. Anything but an extension to the term.

The ACC will not last 14 years .
If ESPN desires they will pay much more. If they do not care and desire SEC to gulp up teams they will pay more , LOL. Either way they will pay. The ACC teams that are football will cause much angst. Probably many teams will eventually be on board to dissolve . It is all about ESPN as you say. Do they desire ACC all sports? Big question.

or we can dissolve and create absolute madness. either way ND in
position of strength that is for sure. at least IMO.

Even if the schools decide to dissolve the conference, I would not be
surprised if some schools decide to form the ACC 2.0 as a non-power conference instead of joining one of the other existing DI non-power conferences. The ACC name (and brand) would still carry weight in that circle. In addition, conferences like the AAC, Atlantic 10, CAA, Conference USA, Sun Belt, etc. may not be interested in adding new members at this time.

I think these schools are stuck until within 5 years of 2036. Otherwise
some would have already left (Clem, FSU)

Prob so..
Even if acc ends 2036. Why not try to get more money during this time.? ND leaving would hurt them more now. They lose their Indy . Plus pay dues owed. Whatever that may be. The ND effect of Acc is now clear . Why wouldn’t presidents use every Avenue. If ESPN desiire viable Acc . A league with solid other sports. They will up deal . Yes, acc football needs betterment. Also need more coin to pay for great coaches . Just to hang around. If nothing else.
