Tech had that chance to get a proven P5 winner when they hired Pry.
Whit took a pass.

VT fan base partially to blame IMO. Clamored very loudly for ‘nice guy’
Type and that’s what we ended up with

Looking back the guy Liberty hired would have....
been good, I think. Couldn't get much worse.

He was my choice, along with his whole staff.

Chadwell has done a tremendous job at Liberty this year
He has a lot of great talent graduate/transfer (Demario Douglas is starting for NEP, for instance), but he did a tremendous job of using the portal and immediately made his offense work in the context of the players he had (note they are also weak in the OL and lost their best OL and DL before the season started). Maybe a bit apples and oranges, but Chadwell can flat out coach and has proven everywhere he's gone. More along the lines of who VT should have targeted.

He would have. My pick was open too. Not a popular I’ve at all either…
Rich Rodriguez - the guy could win here. His personality and toughness. The offensive intervention. The baggage is the issue. I get it but how badly do you want to win? Pry deserves a chance but he isn’t even in the same universe as Rich Rod in terms of on the field coaching. Risky hire. If nothing else Rich Rod would be looking out for his guys on some of these questionable calls and not drawing stick figures on his notepad.

Wanted Rich Rod when Fuente got the nod. Agreed then. Ship sailed unfort.

He would be a major upgrade. Never loved his system....
But it wouldn't be a dumpster fire right now.

I’m with you. Could have been framed as a redemption story…
This is home type of deal. You know the made my share of mistakes, but life on track. His personality fits the blue collar team we want to be again. You’d catch crap for the hire - but no way his team would have been as bad as they were last year or this year. No way. Basically they hired a guy with his learners permit and he went out and hired a staff of coaches with learners permits too. How badly does Tech want to win in football. As long as Whit is there, I’d say good football isn’t a priority anymore.

Freeze and Huff were at the top of a lot of people's list

Freeze would have been good, but knew that wasn't going to happen.
I wasn't on the Huff train, but right now he looks like he would have been a lot better hire. ** Edited by HokiePail at 9/24/2023, 10:06:05 AM ** Edited by HokiePail at 9/24/2023, 10:09:42 AM

Well, UVA tried a similar approach with Mike London...

London was FCS not G5.
And the run at Richmond was in his first season there with his predecessor’s players.
