I'll believe UVA to SEC when I see it
Doesn't make any logical sense as to what the SEC has done in the past, none. There football attendance is an embarassment to the ACC much less the SEC. Will never buy into this.

I place zero weight on AP or Coaches preseason polls
It also helps when you don't play anybody, and are in a crappy G5 conference and will probably have 9 wins minimum every year do to these factors.

If no school provides football value, then why the hell add anybody? The other sports have no effect other than possibly mens basketball that is quickly going to hell in a hand basket, nobody cares until March.

UNC is not a home team for 757, give me a break. Most Virginians would want to pull for a team in Virginia. At least according to what I see on homes vehicles especially in Richmond and NOCA. MD does nothing in DC, VT has tons of alum there and north of Abingdon, wtf does UT do in Virginia.

UNC can't fill their own stadium, they probably wouldn't watch their team get slaughtered by Alabama. Alabama would have as many fans at UNC as the home team. VT has a very passionate and loyal fan base who would bring more eyeballs from TV sets than UNC for a football game, that is just being realistic and looking at past ratings. To add, can you imagine the scene at VT for a home game against Alabama compared to UNC? I don't know about you but I like watching games where the crowd is involved, which is a major problem with ACC football now imo.

UNC is a bad example for football
I don't really understand you point here. Alabama will get good rating regardless. Let me ask you this, would Alabama football at UNC or VT or UVA get better ratings?

Football will not be driving force
This is not a shot at you manassas, several people have made this statement. I would love someone to explain how "not football driven" expansion will increase payouts. Football is the money maker. Maybe there are no football schools that will bring enough to expand a conference, but in what universe are networks going to pay the kind of money (say $70M for example) to an additional conference member team that only brings a basketball, baseball, soccer, etc. program? Those don't pay the bills. Other than March madness, the interest in college basketball is declining imo, so that can't be the money maker. The only way I see other non-revenue sports being a factor would be a total breakaway by the top 60 or so schools from the NCAA.

So there would be no expansion in your scenario
Football still pays the bills. What has made SEC so attractive is the passion of its school's fanbases and creating intriguing matchups. Would a network rather have Alabama at VT even in our down years or Alabama at UVA. I think we both know the answer to that. I don't see SEC abandoning that philosophy. Bringing UVA in is similar to Vandy imo and UNC in football as well. UNC does have the basketball brand though and I question that UVA does.

would be stunned if UVA got into SEC over VT, stunned. UVA is literally, the furthest SEC type institution that I can imagine. The SEC is smarter than that imo. Have still heard no logical reason for UVA if networks are running the show, UVA basketball is about the most boring style ever invented.

Ehhhh don't totally disagree but
Only makes logical sense that more viewers from a populated state (VA), for schools that have a large following in football (VT), are going to put more eyeballs on the broadcast even if not a "national" type matchup. I do agree that matchups are extremely important but not the only factor imo

Still haven't received a plausible answer. I can't honestly think of two schools who are less "SEC" than UNC and UVA. I will believe it when I see it.

I refuse to believe the SEC would want UVA over VT, and have heard no valid argument as to why they would want UVA. This is about football, UVA doesn't and never has cut it. Maybe SEC doesn't want VT, but I refuse to believe they want one of the worst football programs in the conference.

If the networks are indeed driving the bus on this
and this is indeed football driven, I can't imagine a broadcast partner would rather invest in showing football games at UVA, UNC etc. rather than Clemson, VT, FSU or NSCSU. It just doesnt make logical sense to me. If you want the Virginia market for football it has to be VT, not a a team that can't half fill their stadium. Just saying if I was a major TV network, UNC and UVA football would not be high on my wish list. If you are wanting olympic sports then sure UNC and UVA would be there. But what do I know?

They've added Group of 5 schools and bottom feeders of Pac 12 except Utah. Media portrays as if they added Notre Dame, Alabama and UGA
