Here's two things I think it could be. 1) FSU and CU to SEC 2) dissolution
Guess 1: FSU and Clemson to SEC by settlement.
Not sure what the amount of money the two will pay to get out. But in recent days, the B1G has cooled (for some reason) on FSU (and Clemson), or at least appears to have cooled.
It's in ESPN's best interest to a) settle and b) keep FSU and Clemson in the ESPN family of networks.
ESPN does enough for the remaining ACC schools to get them to sign off on it.
Guess 2: There is enough schools willing to vote to dissolve the conference. This could mean making a smaller conference on their own. Or it means that they have P2 homes. Or most of them have P2 homes and others going to the XII with financial considerations from those with P5 homes. This seems far-fetched since it would involve multiple conferences conspiring, but it would go along better with the Jurassic Park reference. Also along these same lines, some could vote to dissolve the conference in favor of a smaller ACC (straight up contraction)--this would be some straight up Hunger Games stuff though. Or lastly, a group of schools votes to dissolve the conference and the SEC takes them on as an entire division.
Don't know. Just spitballin'. Woke up in the middle of the night to the water in my glass on my night stand trembling a bit.

could merge with a similar faction from the XII. It could absolutely be viable. It's a radical idea and there is absolutely no smoke, unless you consider the recent Utah rumors.
I think we can rule out kicking anyone out. It is most likely just FSU leaving. However, it could be Notre Dame leaving and parking Olympics back in the Big East. That would be huge news.

I don't see how fsu or Clemson could give notice with the lawsuits results still so uncertain, unless ESPN is pushing a settlement and that seems unlikely right now.
The acc could easily win the north carolina lawsuit. Or not have a result for years and years.

Something along the lines of Tyrannosaurus Rex getting ready to hit the ACC? Not sure FSU announcing an ACC exit should qualify to that degree. A North Carolina lawsuit against the ACC would fill the shoes of Tyrannosaurus Rex a lot closer to those dimensions. Perhaps Pate is just being overly dramatic in predicting what has been predicted since spring before last. It does look like something is definitely nearing.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the ACC media rights contract? Could ESPN be ready to inform the conference of their decision to extend the media rights contract or not? It feels like a pivotal moment for the ACC.

FSU will be resigning from the ACC, playing an ACc schedule this season but letting them keep their share of the revenue, and continuing the fight on GOR

The 'by the books process; in ACC procedures on leaving describes basically a 2 year process after notice. Further, once notified, the institution is no longer allowed to participate in any business meetings or vote. Also, I do believe that existing revenue distributed is put in escrow, while all the revenue and expenses and separation expenses are resolved. I guess FSU, is willing to go that way and have the cash flow.

A man is being rescued and sitting in the back of a jeep with a leg injury after surviving a dinosaur attack. He is waiting for his rescuers to return to the Jeep so they can get to safety when he sees vibrations in the cup of water sitting next to him. He then hears very low thuds and realizes the Tyrannosaurus Rex is coming back.
The ACC is evidently that man.
****EDIT****. Oh wait, I just watched a clip. This is the first attack when a different man (an idiot lawyer) is sitting in an Explorer with two kids. One of the smart kids is looking at the glasses of water and then hears the thuds. The idiot says “It’s just the power coming back on”. The idiot later dies when the T-Rex eats him while he is hiding on a toilet. It’s very possible the ACC is instead this idiot instead of the first man, who survived multiple Jurassic Park movies full of Dinosaurs.
The first man, played by the incomparable Jeff Goldblum, is clearly the Big XII. The idiot is the ACC. The T-Rex is the SEC. And the Big Ten is inGen, the company behind the entire park. Oh, and UVA is the steaming pile of Triceratops crap at the start of the film.

2) Possible vote to disband, given the looming deadline of SMU joining
#1 is more likely, but not worth the cryptic tweet. #2 would only happen if many more than FSU/Clemson/UNC have received golden tickets, i.e.4 more schools not based in Indiana.

That they are leaving, thus contraction of the league. I doubt a settlement will be reached for a while but they are signaling to not include them while working on the ‘25-‘26 sports schedules.

than most and a good listen/thoughtful. I remember end-of-June having some sort of date/time trigger for a potential change but don't recall the event (conference date/cut-off?). Then-up would be post season, ahead of the feb '25 espn "renewal" date. fsu fans say they're leaving no matter what, sooner vs later...If the leave-fee+gor => 700m, seems a bit aggressive, but idk...

He's more of a commentator than a reporter. But his commentary if great.
He's one of the few commentators that I bother listening to anymore. He understands why people love college football and he is with them. He gets it. But he isn't stuck in the past either. He works for CBS Sports, but doesn't act like a network lackey. He also isn't given over to hyperbole and rumors. Smart, sensible guy.
That being said, I have no idea what this tweet means.
