VTAD fund raising "sucks" because the Hokie Club SUCKS!!!!

They have no idea what they are doing, what they are supposed to be doing, or how to do it.

Which potential 3-loss SEC team/s do you not think are top 12 material?

I personally think that UT, aTm, UGA, Tenn, Bama, and OleMiss are top 12 teams and should be in the playoffs. Heck - I think LSU could even beat most of the teams that will make the playoffs except maybe Org and Ohio St. - and I say this while I hate LSU. IF the purpose of the playoff is supposed to be a collection of the 12 best teams in the country and not a guaranteed participation spot for some lesser teams/conferences. I know this will not be a popular take .... ;-) ** Edited by 133193Hokie at 11/18/2024, 3:50:47 PM

And I will add - that there is no way that schools like UNC, UVA, Kansas

and a few others (maybe Arz, FSU, Clem, Utah, Okl St) will be left out of the breakaway. The hope for schools like VT, and NCST is that they are "tied in" with others.

Why would you find this "interesting". Of course this was/is going to

happen. The only question is how many more teams are they going to add for the "breakaway". I have said for a while now that the football wars are over. Except for ND, NO ONE adds any value for football. So, if/when the P2 add more teams (which I think they will) it will be for other factors (1) basketball tournament (2) critical mass for the breakaway.

Because this makes no sense, I am convinced that the ACC Presidents

will approve of this deal. And that is not tic - unfortunately. They seem to make bad decision after bad decision. This will, by no means, keep FSU, Clemson, and any others in the ACC. When/If they get a chance to leave, they will regardless of this model - and I don't blame them - I would leave the ACC if given the chance as well.

But we (VT) would jump into the B1G if given the chance. Talk about

lack of integrity. The B1G formed an alliance and convinced two of their partners (ACC and PAC) to vote against playoff expansion while it was in their best interest to actually vote for it. And at the same time, while laying plans to raid one of their partners (the PAC) of their most valuable properties. There is NO INTEGRITY in college sports - anywhere. This is dog-eat-dog, and you better do what is in your best interest.

Looser mentality. That same logic would have kept us out of the ACC as we

were picked to finish 7th in our first year. ** Edited by 133193Hokie at 7/22/2024, 10:07:42 AM

and if it is a success than the SEC/B1G would follow and the Big12/ACC

would still have the same revenue disparity that it has today - i.e. it would be a short term advantage

No. There will probably be P2 expansion but

Other factors will be most relevant as no school other than ND brings incremental value for just football

The football "wars" are over - except for ND. No ones brings any

incremental football value except ND. So, if B1G/SEC add anyone other than ND it will because of other factors. We can debate what those other factors are and compare/contrast VT vs UVA......

I don’t begrudge FSU at all. They are potentially fighting for

Their sports future and doing it aggressively. Some may not like their methods, and I get that, but time is not their friend. They can’t sit back and let this play out for years or rely on someone else to fight the GOR.

The B1G was supposed to get UMD and GT. GT was talked into staying in the

ACC at the last minute - they have to be regretting that decision. So, B1G added Ruts at the last minute - B1G is probably regretting that decision as well. The general consensus, is that the B1G wanted to "force" other teams to leave the ACC so that they could target more valuable schools than UMD and GT. Also - at the time the B1G was into schools from contiguous states - might have even been a requirement - not sure? So, in theory, that opened up other opportunities.

I personally think the SEC needs to move a little west - Kansas and Arz

when/if they become available. And before someone says something about Kansas/Arz football - except for ND, the football wars are over.

Couple comments / thoughts:

1. Interesting he brings up the economic impact on the state and swva specifically - that was one of the key "arguments" for going with the SEC when we had the chance. 2. I would like to see what his analysis showed of USC/Org/Wash/UCLA - BEFORE they were added to the B1G. Likewise for TX/Okl before they were added to the SEC. 3. While interesting and important perspective, he leaves out the role of TV decision makers in this process. Yes, U Presidents will have a very large portion of the decision making impact, but so will TV executives. ** Edited by 133193Hokie at 6/11/2024, 11:17:01 AM

And to think, many vocal posters on this board supported JS until the

last year or two. While many others knew early on that JS AND the ACC U Presidents were in WAY over their heads when it came to big time collegiate sports.

The ACC leadership (ie.e ACC Presidents) were fat, dumb, and happy with

the GOR - thinking it was the be all and end all answer. When, instead, they should have seen the threat and moved earlier by expanding. Two-three years ago there was talk of an ACC-PAC merger but according to reports the ACC U Presidents did not like the geo fit. Well..... where did that get them.. expansion with PAC schools that were the less than desirable PAC teams

They were always going to cut a deal. The only question is the

$ amount. If I were to guess, I would say $250m-$350m range. There is absolutely no way this gets litigated - none whatsoever.

Interesting conversation on ESPNU radio this morning - Full Ride....

Chris and Rick were discussing what would potentially come first. ND joining a conference, or conferences "fracturing" with private equity funding - i.e. schools either selling their entire athletic department or just football to PE firms. Rick said he thought the later would come first. He went on to mention that the President of Arizona was recently asked by another faculty member if the school would be better off "selling" (i think it would actually be leasing, but you get the point) the athletic department to a PE firm and the Pres. said that was being considered/investigated. Interesting dynamics come into play with that model for sure..... ** Edited by 133193Hokie at 2/27/2024, 6:17:55 PM

I think $250-$350M. But even if it is $500M, it is a business deal/

decision that you can not walk away from. Simply calculate the difference in per team payout between the SEC/B1G and ACC and run a calculation.

Glad people are finally coming around to what I have been saying for about

3 years now. Just about every time I bring it up, a lot of posters "poo poo" it and say it is all about football. Have been saying for a long time, the P2 are looking at that NCAA Tourney pot of gold ($1B annually) and they want their "fair share" of it. The P2 dont like equally sharing that with the Daytons of the world, and that is why some non-traditional football schools may have some interest by the P2 - think Kansas and maybe Az, along with some others. The football wars are over, except for ND.

Personally, I dont think they should have been in the playoffs this

year - they were not one of the (4) best teams in my opinion. So..., I agree with you on the playoff piece. I assumed you were just talking about conference alignment. If so, than my comment still stands. The entire ACC is "suffering" - both the "punk" teams and the non-punk teams ;-)

I think that the ACC let academics get in the way of good business by never

adding WVU in the first place. But at this point in time, I think that the Big12 is more stable long term than the ACC is. I am not sure that the ACC can draw any teams away from the Big12...... Maybe WVU solely based upon Geo, but I would be surprised......

Well..., if VT is not putting out feelers to all 3 (SEC, B1G, and Big12)

than, they are being very stupid in my opinion. VT better have a solid backup plan in case we dont get a P2 spot. I think Big12 would be better than a diluted ACC..... Hope it does not come to that, but you better have a backup plan at all times. ** Edited by 133193Hokie at 2/20/2024, 7:42:23 AM ** Edited by 133193Hokie at 2/20/2024, 8:52:39 AM

Heard that rumor a few days back. That both vt and ncst have

Been told by both sec and B1G that there is no interest. Hence both reached out to big12. Guess we will see in time
