ESPN’s what happened at CFP meeting in Dallas. B1G & SEC desire 4 Auto bids
each, according to some sources. I am going to also post the USA Today report of what happened at the CFP meeting in Dallas. They both state they think the B1G and SEC want 4 each on the CFP Auto Bids. However, ESPN paints a Rosy picture, while USA Today seems bring up the old phrase in describing where things are going, “hated it.” 🤣

4 to SEC
4 to B1G
2 to Big XII
2 to ACC
1 to G5
1 last at large- basically a slot for Notre Dame any time they finish in the top 14.
Really good breakdown on the Wetzel/Forde/ Dellinger podcast, starting around the 22 minute mark.

between one news source trying to pimp a product it broadcasts and another news source highlighting the pitfalls and potential damage to its own business model. Both got one thing right.
There are three main issues and they are governance(i.e., control), access and revenue distribution. People are naive if they expect the SEC and B1G to concede anymore than the bare minimum on any of those three issues. The bare minimum is the line necessary to gain the votes to pass their preferred plan and keep any potential antitrust and restraint of trade issues at bay. I have little, if any, respect for ESPN/SEC or FOX/B1G and the way they have pushed college athletics to this point. I have NO TRUST in either group to do anything that is in other than their best interest or to benefit the sport as a whole. My position on this is firm and unlikely to change whether VT gets a seat at the table or not.

Which is the sad part about this.
Each change is just a more blatant middle finger towards large populations of alumni and fans of schools and states that are not in the P2.

Auto-bids for non-champions is a bad policy.
If you look at my 14-team scenario in the thread below using the past season's CFP ranking, the SEC would have gotten SEVEN bids and the B1G would have gotten SIX. But making a number automatic will prevent the SEC and B1G from competing with one another and will also lessen the need for any kind of competitive OOC efforts from either of the P2.
Moreover, some teams that are in the Top 4 of one of the P2 might rest players if they are locked into the Top 4 and aren't able to make the CG. Make every school push to win every game.

I don't imagine there will EVER be year when the expanded B10 and expanded SEC don't both have two teams in the top 12 (or top 11 if the P5 rep isn't top 12).
So if they codify it and given them the auto-4 bids, or if they just earn 4 bids every year... no big difference IMO.

to reject it if you are the P2, so you can say we tried to work with them, but since we can’t, we are going out on our own. 🤷♂️
Needless to probably say, I have negotiated a lot of business agreements.

Even if I was the SEC and B1G I wouldn't want it. It's just lame.

think it’s more likely than unlikely, and sooner rather than later.
The Auto Bids aren’t even the biggest thing they are going to ask for, wait until the revenue redistribution details come out. ESPN and Fox are mainly running the show since they write the checks, both of these issues are about making substantially more money for them to pay to the B1G and SEC, and of course to their companies. They want to run the show, and not the NCAA IMHO. I just don’t see how you stop them. By the way on that subject, you need enough states behind this. IMHO neither the state of Virginia or North Carolina will get behind this unless they take both of the larger state schools. That’s important if this goes to The Hill. I said it at least months ago, if not years ago, 48 schools is where I think they are going with the P2.

They know in most years they'll get at least 4 anyway. They're after something else, probably a guaranteed larger share of the revenue.

That’s why IMHO Boo Corrigan, the NC State AD and was the head of the playoff committee when FSU was left out, was so intriguing to me.🤔

USA Today is not only a national newspaper, but it owns over a thousand other newspapers. They probably don’t like the power and money is going to a few markets. So they give a similar account of 4 Auto bids for the B1G and SEC, but don’t like that many of their newspaper markets will be left out. Just an educated guess on my part.
