I think the B1G goes hard after Miami. The B1G/Fox can "sell" the heck out
of most good B1G teams vs Miami matchups - makes great content that people will pay to watch

There will still be some form of rationalization but as part of a larger
league/conference. That is why I posted from the beginning that the B1G was ALWAYS going to add more western teams - they were NEVER going to leave USC/UCLA on an island by themselves. And I think there is a possibility that the B1G will still add ( 2ish) more "western" teams - Az, Kan, Col, Utah.

Yea - I thought about Neb and Colo - but I dont see the value compared
to Az. But I could see Okl St instead of Az.
Lets all pray to the college football baby Jesus now ;-)

#2 is spot on The B1G has made some very smart moves - they know how to
divide and conquer and have been ruthless about it to differing degrees of success - but they learned along the way.
(1) tried with adding Neb - thought they could get others like Tex, Okl
(2) tried the ACC by adding UMD and GT - but GT got cold feet at the last minute
(3) destroyed the PAC by successfully adding USC and UCLA - they could have done it by adding USC and any 1 of UCLA, Org, Wash

So..., my pods would be
Appalachian - VT, WVU, Tenn, KY, NCST, USC
Coastal - UVA, UNC, UGA, FLA, Vandy, Clemson
Southern - Auburn, OleMiss, Ms St, LSU, Bama, Ark
Western - aTm, UT, Az, Kan, Mizz, Okl

Agreed. If I were the SEC king for a day......
(1) I would go to 24 teams - meaning add (8)
(2) I would add two more "western" schools - Az and Kansas
(3) I would add WVU - SEC is all about compelling content and rabid fans - NOT about big cities/states
(4) I would add (5) ACC schools - but probably not any Fla schools, and certainly not GT - so that leaves UNC, NCST, UVA, VT, Clemson

Think of an SEC pod of VT, USC, Kentucky, Tenn, WVU, NCST
I know - WVU..... OK - replace WVU with Mizz, Ole Miss, Ms St, or Ark.
I would take that pod ALL DAY LONG over a B1G pod that looks like the ACC/Big East re-do

If I were betting $, I would bet FSU wants the B1G and UNC wants the SEC.
And I suspect that is the way it will work out for those 2

Neither side wants litigation - never have. There will be a settlement -
that has always been the way this was going to end. Neither side wants to role the dice and neither side wants to be deposed.

Here is/was the ACC's problem when it comes to football $....
(1) "big markets" dont matter - i.e. Boston, NY, etc. when it comes to college football. Content is king - always has been and always will be. (2) the ACC let academics get in the way of smart business
Conference Realignment Board
2 y ago
There was ALWAYS going to be a "bargain" - i.e. agreed upon settlement
Neither side wants litigation and CERTAINLY neither side wants to be deposed. All the stuff that has been flying back and forth is each side taking jabs at each other to better their perceived hand. Neither side was ever going to deliver a knock out blow. The only question has ever been when and how much.

I dont get all the SEC hate. They are at least up front and "honest" about
who they are and what their intentions are. Compared to the B1G and all that "alliance" BS that the PAC and ACC stupidly fell for. The B1G was like "hey knuckle heads lets form an alliance to combat the SEC". Meanwhile, while you are focused on that, I am going to (1) raid the PAC of its two most valuable properties (2) convince you to vote against play off expansion that would really help the ACC and the PAC. To me, the B1G is the more underhanded, "dishonest", conniving of the two.
Oh, and that is even before we get into all the other crap that has been going on at B1G schools for the last 10 years.

Next step in the process that many have seen for years, but others refuse
to see or believe.

No, because they are making moves to strengthen their conference and they
are in a position geographically to draw from the west coast, mid west, and eastern sections of the country. The Big12 is in a much better position right now and going forward than the PAC and the ACC. We can all wish and hope for it to be different but it is not.
Conference Realignment Board

Here is the problem with that - for the ACC schools
Roll the clock forward a few years and the ACC GOR starts to fade - the SEC/B1G pick up a few ACC schools and the ACC remnants (VT may or may not be in that group) are looking for a home. Welp the B1G 12 is full after adding the 4 Corners, UC, Cinci, and others. The ACC remnants would be in the same boat as the Org States, Washington, States of the world - not a good position to be in.
These moves increase the pressure on the ACC schools A LOT. Especially when the B1G picks up Org and Wash.

B12 is making the right moves in my opinion. I have said for a while now
that the B12 is in the best position of the L3 conferences.

You are finally coming around to what I have been saying for a while now re
basketball. Yes - football drives the $ - we all know that. But there is a big pot of $ that is called the NCAA basketball tournament and the "big boys" do not like sharing that big pot of $ equally with the Daytons of the world.

You can forgot about any reasoning on Ruts in the B1G. In today's world
that would have never happened. (1) The B1G had UMD and GT in the bag. GT dropped out at the 11th hour and the B1G had to "scramble" to find a replacement. (2) TV markets dont matter today - it is all about who will be willing to pay for streaming content - and it is not Rutgers fans.

Cant disagree with just about anything he wrote. While he addresses AZ and
AZ State, he made no mention of Kansas. I can see both the SEC and B1G potentially "fighting" over Kansas just as they would UNC. I also agree that the B1G will add at least 2 more west coast schools (probably Org and Wash) - been saying that from the day they added USC/UCLA.
Will certainly be interesting to see how this all plays out for college football in general and VT in particular.

Just what we need right now - More dissing of SEC academics. When did VT
become such an academic snob?

The SEC was not taking Miami and/or FSU at that time. At that time the SEC
had a voting block that was not going to allow any schools from a state that they already had a member school in. Miami had no choice.
The ACC had a couple choices:
(1) Stay pat and tell Miami that they can stay in the Big East
(2) Tell Miami, we are adding VT and WVU and you can stay in the Big East until you are ready to see the light
(3) Tell Miami it is VT, WVU and Miami - and we will look at BC and Syr in the near future and make a decision later.

Yea - who in their right college football mind would prefer to watch
FSU/Miami/VT/UNC/Clem/NCST vs WVU instead of FSU/Miami/VT/UNC/Clem/NCST vs BC/Syr/Louisville/Pitt. I dont know about you, but I would watch (witch means $'s) any of the former matchups and none of the later matchups i listed. As much as we all "hate" WVU, that is what creates compelling matchups that people will watch. And that is a BIG portion of the ACC's problems - too much content (matchups) that people could care less about watching. In any given weekend the ACC has maybe 1 or 2 games that people care to watch. By comparison the SEC has 3-6.
Everything is about content - content is king - content is the alpha and the omega.

I suspect the weather in Nov at night also plays a big role in this.....
resolution - add Miami, FSU, and Clemson and schedule the night games there ;-)
Conference Realignment Board
3 y ago
And JS should have JUST SAID NO. What else was Miami going to do?
You think the SEC lets teams "negotiate" this kind of stuff. This was always part of the ACC problem - they never had balls with just about anything.
Conference Realignment Board
3 y ago
Not adding WVU was a big mistake by the ACC, in my opinion. Very short
sighted and the ACC let their academic snobbery cloud their judegement. WVU would have been better than BC, Sry, Pitt, and Louisville. Just one Hokie fans opinion ;-)

Basketball is the next big expansion play. SEC and B1G
Get diminishing returns for every βfootballβ school they add at this point. Been saying this for a while now. The P2/3 want a MUCH larger share of the basketball $

ACC Presidents hired the wrong guy to begin with. The majority of the ACC
presidents seem to be clueless when it comes to big time college sports. Lets hope they get the next hire right.
Conference Realignment Board

ACC should have added WVU instead of Louisville. As much as we "hate"
WVU, they drive fans and compelling content.
Conference Realignment Board

Because the ACC and PAC quickly realized that they were wrong in siding
with the B1G and The Alliance. The B1G hood winked both (surprise, surprise) into voting against something that was actually in their best interests to vote for. I suspect that they recently indicated that they would now vote in favor of what they just voted against.
I think the BIGGER question is why the B1G and SEC want a (12) team playoff. I could make a case for them wanting to stick with (4) or even smaller. With (4), they could have their own conference playoff of 4-6 teams AND keep all of the $ to themselves. Why share $ if you are in their shoes?

Conference Realignment Board

Just amazing that the ACC/PAC did not see this the first time and instead
let the B1G tell them how to vote - even when it was not in their best interest.
Conference Realignment Board
3 y ago
Yea - I suspect that the ACC/PAC realized that the "old" proposal was the
best that they could hope for. And now that they realize the B1G was not a "true" partner in The Alliance, they signaled that they are willing to flip. Amazing that they let the B1G hood wink them the first time,
Conference Realignment Board
3 y ago
Hey - you were all for the Alliance voting down the SEC plan. The B1G used
everyone's fear and hatred of the SEC to hood wink them. Including a lot of posters on this board.
Conference Realignment Board

I have felt like the Big12 is in the best position of the LoL3 for a while
now. I think the B1G grabs some more PAC schools and than the Big12 will grab some as well. Will be interesting to see if ESPN pushes for some sort of ACC/Big12 "package" as apposed to the ACC/PAC package that had been mentioned some in the past.
Conference Realignment Board
3 y ago
That is one of the reasons that ESPN is cool with moving the schedule up...
Fox is also cool because it will also probably accelerate their move on the PAC.
Conference Realignment Board
3 y ago
You are assuming that the ACC would schedule compelling content for that
added in conference game. I am not as confident that they would after seeing what they did with the new schedule.
