He's saying he wants it because he's not happy with the progress with the CFP committee. They must not be able to rig it by removing conferences from having their champion in the playoffs.

Baker, Yormark and Phillips want/need those two to figure out and agree upon the things they have to get...there is no point in someone else trying to do that flying blind re: the big 2...they just tried that in the NCAA reorg

We need to add Uconn and possibly 1 more (Memphis CC?) to maintain a majority voting bloc.
(In response to this post by bburgnative)
Voting advantage won't matter. The SEC and B1G will determine if anyone
else is even involved in their league and playoff, let alone have voting rights.

that would be detrimental to the money coming in.

The SEC is already in bed with Texas.

and picture will become clearer once the members of the committee are disclosed and the areas they choose to prioritize are made clearer. I will say the ACC and Big 12 can likely treat this as an explicit command to seat themselves at the kid's table if they are excluded from committee participation.

Packer asked UNC's AD about today's news and ...
Cunningham had no clue. It will be interesting to see what areas the Big 10 and SEC will focus on. Like you said, the ACC and Big 12 aren't important enough to participate. I guess we already have the P-2. Sankey and Petitti will have the names of the 6 or 8 most desirable ACC member schools placed in a hat and will draw to see who gets who. ;)

their slimeball commissioner. He would have not done any differently if he was in the ACC seat as opposed to his comfy little SEC chair. If Sankey and the SEC are pissed they should direct that anger at their own, A&M, who was the real culprit in short circuiting his plan.

who they are and what their intentions are. Compared to the B1G and all that "alliance" BS that the PAC and ACC stupidly fell for. The B1G was like "hey knuckle heads lets form an alliance to combat the SEC". Meanwhile, while you are focused on that, I am going to (1) raid the PAC of its two most valuable properties (2) convince you to vote against play off expansion that would really help the ACC and the PAC. To me, the B1G is the more underhanded, "dishonest", conniving of the two.
Oh, and that is even before we get into all the other crap that has been going on at B1G schools for the last 10 years.

have easily gotten Missouri's spot in 2011. The SEC leaked it to an Atlanta radio station to try to make it happen. A&M viewed us as the perfect complement to their inclusion and no one really wanted Missouri. They just had to add someone to balance the numbers.

I don't think they were. I just think the other three conferences were
just being mean girl academic elitists about it. But yeah, either way, the B12 was much better off for not being a part of it.

"to look at the entire college sports landscape and solutions within it."
This sounds like they are planning ahead to be prepared if the NCAA lawsuits result in everyone losing their tax free status. So if the current model no longer provides benefit, what's the best option for them to follow? Or if the current model is broken up, what can they do if they had total control?
I think they are going to war game and come up with a list of 3-5 options to replace or break away from the NCAA. Could be for all sports, for some sports, with media partner investment/ownership, etc.
How to work around existing contracts and infrastructure.
How to deploy something that fans will still support and watch.
How to get sufficient involvement from schools/states across the US so that they don't have anyone in Congress hold it up.
How to maintain the SEC and BIG brands while also deploying something larger that they operate under.
How to sell all of this to the university presidents.
Financial models, execution timelines, membership requirements.

likely the NCAA will still exist because the remaining DI schools, DII schools, and DIII schools will still need a home for their athletic programs. I don't see those schools opting to join the NAIA which is structured the same way as the NCAA. Currently the NAIA has 2 division levels and a total membership of 241 schools.

I have said for a while that I think the media/money interest would like to eventually get to about 32 independents like ND is now with no conferences between them and their money going to nothing but the teams they want to promote.

schools, with differing durations, and demands for exposure in certain windows and unpredictable quality of schedules. Keeping the conferences in the loop gives them some assurance of what the inventory looks like week to week, year to year. The conferences are not at all eager to exclude the weak programs from their TV deals. The P2 are not at all eager to exclude the other conferences from the championship playoffs. Even the G5's and FCS play an important role in year-round content. Nobody is getting kicked out.

the decision to keep or cast off will come down to how the pie gets carved up. If sacrificial lambs are willing to take less they will stay. If not, they will likely go at some point. It will be about skirting antitrust issues and keeping as much of the pie as possible, likely achieved through more money allocated to playoff spots and less to the general participation pool.

years when The PAC 2 face a decision about buying in to The Big XII or ACC vs just accepting a
comfortable seat in The Mountain West. They might be able to use their bankroll the way SMU did, but difficulties outweigh the (imagined) prestige. I predict the MWC goes to 14.

that supersedes all you said is paying for the conferences to tell them their ads are going to be shown more on Wake, BC and Cuse than FSU and Clemson?

internet usual reporting says is that the media companies select the games they want to air, some at the beginning of the season, some as the season plays out. The conference also requires that each school get at least one game on the "main" channel. It's a compromise.

Maybe the Big 10-SEC Alliance will be as successful as ...
the Big 10's alliance with the ACC and Pac-12? That really helped out the Pac-12 and stabilized the ACC. ;)
(In response to this post by Stech)

It is similar to the Alliance in one respect: People imagine all manner of intentions, purposes, and agreements that don't exist. The ACC, B1G, and PAC formed a voting bloc in the CFP to prevent ESPN from getting an extension of the playoff TV contract. The Alliance was their cover for meeting and discussing that.
While there is much for the P2 to discuss about the NCAA, NIL, realignment, and on and on... I am cynical enough to believe that these two, who still compete with each other in every way, might be colluding on a couple of expensive developments. They may be working-out the careful, non-competitive dismantling of a certain Eastern conference. Perhaps they have seen a need to install silent signaling system to set a ceiling on NIL total expenditures. These are subjects they would not discuss openly, but which need their attention.

I've never watched less college football than I did this year. I didn't even watch a single bowl game. I HATE what the TV networks, Sankey, Delaney, Warren, and others have made it. I'd honestly rather watch the NFL.

Every time I read that ESPN is holding funds to renew the NBA, I keep thinking that ESPN should let the NBA go to TBS and use that money to beef up college. Why feel the need to put NBA crap on the air?
