The idea that the B12 fans would like some ACC properties, is no different than the ACC fans that would like some B12 properties. How many posts from ACC fans - even on this board - regularly talk about poaching B12 teams? The main difference is that the ACC had their chances with all of the current B12 teams, and passed on them. Will the B12 have an opportunity to get some ACC teams? That is up to the ACC and their institutions. The B12 currently has zero leverage, or offers anyone from the ACC something better. This guy is a cheerleader for the demise of the ACC. IMHO, there are only 3 or 4 Big 12 members (Colorado, Arizona, ASU and Kansas) that the SEC or Big 10 "might" want and they have all been turned down at some point or another. The Big 12 has no other TV markets that the P-2 desire. Texas is a huge market but the SEC is already there and there's been rumors of the Big 10 having interest in Texas A&M. The best remaining TV market states for the P-2 are North Carolina, Virginia, Arizona and Colorado (and Colorado is borderline). You can also include Texas (A&M, if they want to leave the SEC), Florida (FSU and Miami) and Georgia (Tech) for the Big 10. Clemson and Notre Dame are the only other schools that have a chance for future P-2 membership. So, there are about 12 schools that have a real chance of P-2 membership. He glosses over the recently passed legislation that the North Carolina committee of state schools has to approve any school changing a Conference. That’s HUGE and he glosses over it. Virginia has more of gentlemen’s and gentlewomen’s agreement across the political aisles, but he doesn’t mention it, because he doesn’t know squat about Virginia politics. He also acts like two schools from the same state aren’t happening. USC and UCLA same city, Texas and Texas A&M same state. How about Michigan and Michigan State? How about Alabama and Auburn? How about Ole Miss and Mississippi State? How about Tennessee and Vanderbilt? The SEC (ESPN) we know is a rivalry conference. The B1G (Fox) is IMHO is trying to leverage their lead into the NFL on Sunday with B1G games. So their model is to take schools in NFL towns. Miami check, Florida State close enough to NFL cities, thus I could see both of those going to the B1G someday. Here is how I see the two Virginia schools and North Carolina schools: Option 1, whichever P2 will take all 4 of us first Option 2, two to one P2 and two to another Option 3, all 4 stay in the ACC and go get schools like USF, Tulane, Rice and Connecticut, Colorado State etc. Option 4, I really can’t see us getting there, but if the first 3 don’t work, small chance to the B12. Probably the same chance as WVU getting in the ACC. We'd have to be the only Mag 7 schools without a P2 seat. I think if at least 1 other Mag 7 school is spurned, we'd all stay and try to make the ACC work. Backfill with UConn, Memphis, USF, and/or 2Pac. Between the two of us, I see VT more likely to consider Big 12 than State. We at least have some relationships with those schools.

even if the ACC loses it's top teams, it then becomes......just like the B12.. a bunch of 2nd tier sports schools joined together for convenience because the P2 doesn't want them. Having conversations with the B12 makes no sense because there are still options for VT and the puppies to the P2 if they decide to go mega conference.

are too large and important for the P2 to ignore, and they are both strong programs - but then I look at Utah, and the Arizona markets, and I scratch my head - because they make sense in the P2 as well. If, and it's a BIG IF, the BIG goes to 20, and the SEC goes to 20 - then it's my view the B12 will go to 24. We will then have the top 64 schools, and that could be the break away we have been discussing.
