It appears that the SEC and Big 10 commissioners are currently meeting
to discuss many issues, including the playoff format, expanding the playoffs, leaving the NCAA, a scheduling alliance, and the revenue settlement that is still hanging out there.
I find it interesting that no other conference commissioners are in attendance.

happen. The only question is how many more teams are they going to add for the "breakaway". I have said for a while now that the football wars are over. Except for ND, NO ONE adds any value for football. So, if/when the P2 add more teams (which I think they will) it will be for other factors (1) basketball tournament (2) critical mass for the breakaway.

surprised because their moves will not work in my opinion. It's the age old 80/20 rule. 20% gets the money, but they do not sell nearly as well without the 80%
If they break away as many of you think they will, they will no longer be considered college football. They will not make it as a semi pro league in my opinion.
What many of you miss, is that even before Nebraska and A&M made their moves, the 20% were already making the lions share of the revenue. They already had the money for the best facilities, best coaches, and recruited the top players.
The difference now, is that Purdue and Mississippi State is making a lot more media money then your school. Do you really think that media money is going to make a difference in how VT recruits? Or K-state?

networks, then it may be only a matter of time before the pro leagues publicly support it. Technically the NFL will be supporting it via its stake in ESPN. Heck it would not surprise me if the NFL ended up being the one standing behind the curtain pulling all the strings. A breakaway league would allow the NFL to get its minor league without the owners having to invest too much of their own capital to get it off the ground. If the NFL is able to figure out a way to turn this breakaway league into its minor league, then you have just created the blueprint for the other pro leagues to follow. Assuming they don't simply add the breakaway league to the existing minor league structure.

College football has served that role for years. I cannot imagine the NFL is unhappy with its current situation. I don't think it has any desire to own a minor league, as long as someone's out there developing the players for them.

Plus, whatever the P2 decide to do could force the NFL's hand. For example, if the P2 decide to eliminate the eligibility rules and pay the players a salary, then the players may not be as quick to make the jump to the NFL.

and a few others (maybe Arz, FSU, Clem, Utah, Okl St) will be left out of the breakaway. The hope for schools like VT, and NCST is that they are "tied in" with others.

We have gone from promoting our bona fides for belonging in the P2 to hoping for help. This is what losing to SEC's worst team (Vanderbilt) and B1G's worst team (Rutgers) gets you. It's making me sick.

to the B1G or SEC. VT will not move any value needle playing games on the CW and noon on ACCN. That is where VT is heading for the remainder of the season based on play so far.

Alabama went decades between Bear and Saban. Florida State still hasn’t found the next Bobby Bowden sustainable success. Clemson went a long time from Danny Ford to Dabo. However, their fan bases stuck with them, that’s huge. I agree we need to get better, but TV media wants schools that back their teams in good times and bad, because that’s where the 💵 money is! Virginia Tech has done that, it’s way more important than almost anything else and probably anything else to be considered. Because that’s where the money 💴 is!

Lane, and that is very important for television. The problem that VT has, in my humble opinion, is that no one outside the Mid Atlantic knows who VT is. Playing Maryland and Rutgers OOC just digs you guys deeper in the hole.
Schedule some games in Texas, or the Midwest, or even in the Mountain Zone. Until you get some of those fan bases to experience Lane, you will remain a regional phenomenon. If you want the national eyeballs, play a national schedule. Otherwise, only a playoff run will get you noticed in regards to viewership.

reason USC agreed to play VT at FedEx Field because they used to game to help promote the campus. Oklahoma is another school with a satellite campus in Washington DC.

Unfortunately USNWR is golf standard of rankings…..
The WSJ rankings are a result of a methodology and metrics that are questionable. For example, I can’t imagine any universe where SJSU is better than VT. It is what it is.

In terms of influencing prospective students and fundraising….USNWR…..
I was told this directly by a dean at a top rated university. Easier to sell USNWR because it is most well known. In reality it’s all subjective. So is VT better than FSU or UVA…..It’s in the eye of the beholder.

I believe all ratings are subjective and based on varying metrics…..
I think USNWR is by far the most well known and it is that rating that is most valuable to colleges whether they admit it or not. Because a high USNWR rating is a great selling point for admissions and fundraising. If you start talking about QS or THE rankings, most folks won’t know what you are talking about. Bring the most well known creates more value. At least in my opinion

We are about to have an English soccer structure with no pro/rel
Simply stated, the SEC and Big 10 will be the Premier League with no change of promotion into the league and no relegation out of it. The ACC and Big 12 will be the Championship with no chance for promotion and the other leagues will be down from there.
It is coming and my guess is that some kind of anti trust / legal maneuver will be the only way to slow it down or stop it.
