I leave this board for a few months and I clearly missed a lot of stuff
There are a ton of threads below but I will say this, last year I had detailed conversations with two key folks in the know around conferences and potential realignment. Not just some blogger with a substack or a random YouTube guy looking for impressions.
This person told me that the Big 10 and the SEC would eventually go to 20. In addition, the Invest to Win campaign was specifically designed to make Tech attractive and competitive so that we would be one of the new joiners to either league. My sources were impeccable on this one. Trust me.

The P2 will not expand unless their TV partners tell them to do so
That is why the B1G expanded, because Fox told them to do it. If Disney tells Sankey that the SEC needs to sure up their northern front, they will likely expand into North Carolina and Virginia.
I think the more likely domino will be the implosion of the conferences, especially for football. That makes making Tech competitive on the national scale so imperative, especially in football. That is a train that we cannot afford to miss at the station or we will never recover.

I am assuming that it will be another big rebuild for men's hoops next year
Who are some possible names from the transfer portal that may be interest for us. This is likely a make or potential final year for CMY, so I think it is NCAA or bust...and I worry about the bust part of it.

Hawks are seriously good and play basketball that is fun to watch.
NAW is having a breakout season and should win NBA most improved player.

Used to be called the Gwinnett Center
It is a nice, medium sized arena in Gwinnett County in the Atlanta suburbs. Gas South is a natural gas company in the ATL area.

Time for Neo to break out his slump tonight
Clearly Neo hit the Freshman wall and he is also really suffering from a confidence problem on his shot.
I have a feeling he will see the ball go through the basket for him tonight and he will pick up his game. Defenses are doubling him coming off the high screen/roll and if he does not start getting rid of the basketball to the screener, he is going to continue to have some challenging nights.

I sure wish Tyler Johnson would have been on the court tonight
to guard Miller.
We have been missing that on-ball stopper since he hurt his leg. I think we beat Stanford if he is out there and maybe Wake. We will really miss him tonight.

This is only if there is a 12-team playoff and also the
P-4 conference champs are required to get a bid. Which would have been Duke this year.
If the playoff expands to 16, then ND's deal is null and void.

Jimmy Dykes calling out our defensive toughness
I donât think he is wrong. We really need to figure out that side of things as the competition level increases.

I made a serious tactical error this morning and looked at Lunardi's
bracketology post on Twitter.
I flew home all night from business meetings on the west coast. I was still buzzing over our win against Providence. Then I see where Joey Buckets has us in his ratings...
We are not even on his bubble yet. He has us listed as "Considered" and as the #86 team in the country.
I know it is early November, but if we are going to be pushing the bubble all season, I may turn into Seth Greenberg and become certifiably insane.

I watched a bunch of Grapefruit League games last year and the Braves
were amazing. That did not exactly come through during the season. I know, injuries to the entire starting pitching staff, RF out for steroids for 80 games, etc. I get it.
Still, the Braves looked really good last March down here in FL.

Agree that CW is rated on AC Nielson
I am just relaying that my source said that CW ratings would come from Comscore. That may or may not be correct.

I know from my experience that DVR recordings
are considered to be a tuning event. So, yes, that would be included in the ratings. However, if you have every box or device tuned to the same program at the same time, that will likely be de-duped in the analysis as it is coming from the same household.
In the case of ACCN, I do think that a set top box and a phone or tablet may show up separately and would not be de-duped.

VERY...VERY important post regarding ratings for Saturday night
I was told from a very trusted source that the ACC ratings formula for games that are on the CW and ACC Network will be tracked using the Comscore ratings system which is different from Nielsen ratings.
Nielsen ratings will be used for TV appearances on ABC, NBC, ESPN, and ESPN2. Comscore ratings will be used for ACC Network games since the network is not rated on Nielsen.
Comscore ratings come from raw set top box and streaming device data that is fed through the service provider.
What does this mean for Tech....
On Saturday night, even if you are at the game, make sure every device that you own or manage is tuned into the game on ACC Network. Every ratings point will matter for Tech revenue sharing, so PLEASE, tune in with every device you have at your disposal.

Watched the win over Clemson last night
I was seriously impressed with Eliana Salama. Every time she was on the ball, something good happened. Also, Natalie Mitchell was fantastic and the ball she put in the box to feed the third goal was Messi-like perfection.
Overall, beside some rough minutes at the end of the first half when some subs were in the game, I really liked the look of our team. I loved how we were pressing and looked very athletic. Salama is a fantastic addition and was the best player on the field.

I have thought for years that Tech was destined for the Big 10
I got wind that the Tech administration preferred the Big 10 to the SEC and was possibly a reason why they passed on the SEC when Missouri was invited to join instead of Tech. I also remember that Jim Weaver tried to schedule games with Big 10 schools to gain some exposure with B1G programs.

Deron remains my favorite VT hoops player ever.
I was in school when Dell and Bimbo played. I really enjoyed Ace Custis, Jamon Gordon and Zach LeDay who are all are big time favorites but Deron is simply my favorite ever in maroon and orange.

Winning a series over Loserville came with a big RPI jump
I am seeing that we moved up to #59 in the RRI. Big series with Wake coming up after a midweek game at Radford. Wake is sitting at 20 and we need a big road win for a weekend series.

Question for the wrestling experts here, and I am certainly not one of them
I tend to think that the only chances that Tech has of ever winning a national championship are in wrestling and softball. With that said, how far is our program from Penn State and Ohio State? Would it ever be possible that we can compete with those schools?
I am just curious.

I remember when we used to say that CMY's offense is the point guard...
but we really are hurting without a good point guard right now and it shows why this season is going to be a tough one. Wabissa Bede became a good distributor of the ball under CMY. He could not shoot at all but he did not have to. Storm Murphy was polished under CMY at Wofford and Sean Pedulla got better at Tech too. Hunter Catoor got much better under CMY.
I remember when a guy named Aaron Rodgers tore us up at the Insight Bowl and everyone was screaming about linebacker play and how Bud Foster forgot how to coach. Coaching was not the problem and things were solved once he recruited players like Xavier Adibi, Vince Hall, Jack Tyler, et al.
CMY has not lost it but the talent is not good enough right now to be successful. Our best guards are playing for Vanderbilt and Ole Miss this season making the entire season a loss due to the crash at the guard position. The fact that we could not get Jordan Schutt more than 2 shots and zero points last night or Ben Burnham a good shot in the second half speaks to how the PG is not even apparent in this team. It is killing us.
CMY must find a PG next year and hope that Brandon Rechsteiner makes it as a wing. This will be tough to watch the rest of the way and until WB installs more budget to pay ACC-level players for next season, it may be a tough watch for some time to come.

I am beginning to think it is time to just start over with this program
Something has to change because the metamorphosis from ACC Champion to easily last in the ACC and the worst power 4 team in the nation by a large margin is really difficult to watch.
We need a wholesale change.
I know that CMY won an ACC title and is a great coach. Our recruiting is not good. Out transfer portal and in/out via NIL is a dumpster fire. Either we start buying better players immediately or we should just fold up the tent. I hate seeing out teams stink this badly and I hate how that feels for a fan base that deserves far better. I think Mr. Babcock needs to show us some light, somewhere.
I said earlier that I had given up on this year's team due to the outflow of talent. Unfortunately, I started watching today and my opinion was validated.

Let's put it another way. If the ACC does not jump first
do we not think that the $EC and B1G will not do so as well? They are always thinking ahead with expansion and media rights. At some point, you need to think about changing the rules and trying to get in front via a different method.

I think it is now time to negotiate some cut out from Disney for inventory
They fired the shot by denying ACC access to football on ABC on Saturdays. ABC showed 3 ACC games all season, two at noon and the ACC Championship game. That was it. We did get South Carolina versus Kentucky on ABC.
Since their distribution to their top-level media property has changed significantly, without any negotiation or consideration with the previous league (ACC), to me that opens up the case to move the top content to a new provider.

I promised to not stir up any controversy on TSL after setting off a bomb..
on the subscriber board on Wednesday, but a big sports media event went down this morning.
Netflix just bought the rights to the FIFA Women's World Cup for 2027 and 2031. This is a HUGE deal along with Netflix showing NFL games on Christmas Day and the Tyson/Paul fight from last month.
Netflix wants in on live sports programming. They have a huge untapped audience and money to spend.
In my mind, if I were a visionary sitting in my plush new office at ACC HQ in Charlotte, I would be thinking, what can I do to raise the profile of my league, close the funding chasm between my league and the $EC/B1G, and be innovative while doing it? How can I tell Disney to go pound sand (or in my brain F*** OFF) for cutting the deal with the $EC, that essentially crushed ACC access to ABC Saturday football? How can I enrich the revenue picture of my league so that it stops being an $EC farm system for players and stop being such a patsy for to the $EC in basketball?
Mr. Phillips are you listening? Are you out there?????
If it were me, I would be pushing hard to get a visionary type deal with Netflix. Pronto! I would give them my best game inventory and tell Disney to shove it. Disney dissolved the marriage when they cut their deal with the $EC and it is time to fight back with coast-to-coast college sports, that with competitive funding, can take on the big guys.
That is what I would do, I just wish I had that gig in Charlotte and could do something about it.

I have been on the road for work and are just seeing this
I don't think this is a surprise at all. If you are on this board, you already know that the cable bundle is on life support and will be a relic of the past in the future. ESPN gets the largest chunk of a montly cable bill and they need to start planning for life after the death of the bundle.
You can now see how all of this will shake out. The content providers have all started their streaming services and are competing with Netflix, Amazon, Apple, and Google for the video audience. I think that Disney, Fox and Warner all figured out that if they do not create a home for all sports, Venu, that they may be in trouble in competing against Netflix, Amazon, and Apple who all have deeper pockets than Disney et al. Venu is locked in the courts due to an injunction for Fubo but that will eventually get worked out.
The big question is, will the money that a consumer pays for Venu create enough subs to pay for all of the overhead at ESPN, TNT, FS1 and others. If it does, then they look brilliant. If not, things are going to get wild.
I still think the day is going to come when Amazon, Google, or Apple makes a big play for a super conference or an SEC/Big 10 alliance. The money will be off the charts. They will still keep their over the air inventory because they are smart people but that day is coming. MLS is very happy with Apple, so you know that they can send all of the content for an entire league anywhere in the world. Google has NFL Sunday Ticket. It is coming.

ND will not join a league for football until their path to the playoff
becomes a problem.
The only reason they joined the Big East and then the ACC for all other sports was because they were having difficulty getting into the NCAA tournament in hoops without a league affiliation. If the path to the CFP starts to become an issue for them, if SEC gets 4-5 teams in and the B1G gets 4 teams in and the only sure path to the playoff goes through a conference, then they will drop independence. Bet on it.
