According to Greg.....
VT higher up says best case scenario for VT would have the SEC get FSU, Clemson, UNC, and Duke. Big Ten would grab ND, Miami, Virginia, and VT (over GT).
I think VT's best shot is each of B10 and SEC to go to 24 - or contraction from either/both.

Joined at the hip and going to the SEC. Now that a legit source reported the SEC is interested in UNC and Clemson, he completely changed his tone by claiming he already knew.

He was just presenting what the Va Tech money purch is saying. The hope is UVa, Miami and ND go to the Big Ten and need VT to make it an even 22. Sounds like a long shot. Also depends on SEC taking Duke over UVa. Clemson and FSU also to SEC.

SEC- UNC, UVa, Clemson and FSU. Just like SwimSwam years ago.
B1G- ND and Miami
Also says this has about a 1% chance of happening.
Also says Duke is trying to buy their way into P2 with their deep pockets and may not take any revenue to once there. Again Greg is. Big Ten guy and dreams of ND joining. We shall see.

Why people think it’s a guarantee UNC to the SEC….
The SEC is a football first conference.
Yes, we are down and aren’t what we were, but it’s comical to me people on this board actually think UNC is more attractive to SEC than Tech…
I’ve been to a lot of the SEC west stadiums ; VT and Clemson … maybe FSU are the only environments that remotely resemble an SEC crowd.
Can you imagine SEC fans coming to UNCs dorky little JV stadium ? No way.
To UVA ???? LOL.

wants them in the SEC, so while I understand your point of view, politics is likely to play a bigger role.

I have thought for years that Tech was destined for the Big 10
I got wind that the Tech administration preferred the Big 10 to the SEC and was possibly a reason why they passed on the SEC when Missouri was invited to join instead of Tech. I also remember that Jim Weaver tried to schedule games with Big 10 schools to gain some exposure with B1G programs.

Football fans often shriek and howl and gnaw on their nylabones upon hearing this because they fundamentally misunderstand the culture of the university. That said, the time for this was years ago. VT's persistent weakening as a program, the fracturing of the PAC-12 at the hands of the Big 10, there may no longer be a place for VT.

schools is probably a C.
Illinois series - Illinois asked to be released from the series for competitive reasons (when Zook was the HC)
Michigan series - Michigan canceled on short notice so it could replace the game at VT with a home game against Arkansas St
Penn State series - canceled
Ohio State series - fulfilled
Purdue series - fulfilled
Wisconsin series - aka "the series that will never take place"
Rutgers series - fulfilled

I actually think the Vanderbilt game will be the last of the P2 home and home series VT will ever see - B10 has too many conference games and the SEC will soon follow with the 9 conference games, and both conferences need their cupcake games. Only time VT will get to play those teams will be in the post-season or a beginning of the season neutral-site game. Heck - VT may become a home cupcake for one of those teams if VT falls much further.

a cupcake. It is sad that VT has been relegated to jobber status. If VT is going to be a jobber, then I guess it should fully embrace the character. The Hokie Bird might look good sporting a mullet and moustache.

Recruiting market. Ohio State Penn State and Michigan all recruit the DMV heavily. If the SEC gets into this market they would probably lose a ton of recruits. Taking both UVA and VT with Maryland would essentially lock out the SEC. Same reasoning as taking Rutgers who nobody thought that the B1G would be interested in.

24 team conferences sound like a nightmare for various tournaments and scheduling. I would hope that VT would be among the top 48 schools but VT is no longer a football powerhouse. The ACC should seek a new media partner if ESPN is willing to let conference members leave so easily. The ACC, B12 and P12 plus some G5 conferences should try to form their own playoff if the P2 excludes these conferences.

First, who is Greg? Second, IMO the best P2 angle for VT is UNC and UVa
"split up" and go to the SEC and B1G, respectively. I think the SEC primarily wants UVa over us at this time because they see it as a necessary take-on to get UNC. But if neither UNC nor UVa care about staying together, I think the SEC would be very pleased to take VT instead. I also think Maryland would LOVE to have UVa in the Big Ten.
BTW, the SEC can and should want to get this far north. In fact, I think they should take some BigXII schools in the Southwest and Rockies (ASU and Colorado for starters). The current Big Ten model with its major markets and three time zones gives them growth potential that the SEC doesn't have. If the SEC can beat the B1G to the punch in the Mid-Atlantic, Southwest, and Rockies, that will alleviate the advantage somewhat. And don't look now, SEC. But the B1G has won the last two national championships.
Lastly, I don't see the B1G taking VT over GT. I would love for the B1G to take both UVa and VT, but that's a big ask. And I think there are many B1G presidents that love GT and want to get into Atlanta and the Deep South.

Greg Flugaur of the youtube channel Peek Around The Corner had a brief update on Virginia Tech at the 0:44 minute mark of this video and he might have more info today.
He received an e-mail from a Virginia Tech insider and he uses the term money perch to describe them. The insider has some theories about how VT makes it to the P2. The theories are that the SEC will add UNC and Clemson if it is expanding by two schools. If the SEC expands by four, the VT insider hopes those schools will be UNC, DUKE, FSU and Clemson since it focuses on brands. The VT insider hopes that B1G would add VT, UVA, ND & Miami. The VT insider says that the only opportunity for VT is to join the B1G. VT insider also states that Stanford is no longer a B1G target and the potential ND travel partner to B1G is now UVA.
I always thought Tech's best opportunity was the SEC. I can't see these leagues expanding to 24 teams each. The ACC and B12 will BOTH lose a lot of teams if the P2 expands to 24 teams each.

I don't think the B1G would take two from Virginia. Also...
1. This email is based on "hope" not any kind of Big Ten intel.
2. It is also based on ND coming to the B1G. I think that is still a long shot.
3. Any talk about UNC going to the SEC w/out any explanation about NC State/NC politics is just hot air.
4. And like I said above, the SEC should WANT to get into the Commonwealth of Virginia. I'm not sure why the money perch treats VT to SEC as a non-starter.

scheduling purposes, then that might be the only reason the Big Ten decides to take 2 from the Commonwealth. Naturally it would depend on how the Big Ten decides to break up the members into smaller groups and where the vacant slots are located.

I can't see the B1G making a realignment decision based on
in-conference football scheduling format.
(In response to this post by VTHokie2000)
Either way. I don't see them doing it.

interest in the games. Virginia Tech versus the B1G schools they have played have been good for filling stadiums and viewers. That’s even with our recent 6-6 regular seasons. On the other hand UVA does the same in basketball. I continue to believe basketball is underrated because eventually the NCAA tournament will expand, and the Sweet 16 will get paid like the eventual sweet 16 in football. I am not saying they would take both, but the natural rivalries these two would bring would make a decent case for it, especially since new states for cable hookups no longer drive the bus.

just for football.
(In response to this post by Maroon Baboon)

Well that seems like a non-starter.
And it blows my mind that people throw around football scenarios like this and say it will include Duke and UVA. Hell, even UNC has historically mediocre football viewership numbers (but I know their brand as a school is bigger than that).
I think Greg has no clue
