UNC football is not an SEC Vibe. VT is, Clemson is, and maybe FSU

high, but their basketball is top notch. If the SEC was just looking at football TV ratings, then they would not be a target. However, the P2 are going after π money next very strong IMHO.

another draw as well. Just look for sports draw audiences to TV. ESPN has long wanted to pull more women into sports. Itβs happening with π and π₯.

Top high school and Caribbean players will make more from NIL and pay for play than they will on minor league contracts, plus getting a free education, and getting on TV. I think the SEC is poised to be the best βminor leagueβ baseball option for the top baseball talent out there.

3 years now. Just about every time I bring it up, a lot of posters "poo poo" it and say it is all about football. Have been saying for a long time, the P2 are looking at that NCAA Tourney pot of gold ($1B annually) and they want their "fair share" of it. The P2 dont like equally sharing that with the Daytons of the world, and that is why some non-traditional football schools may have some interest by the P2 - think Kansas and maybe Az, along with some others. The football wars are over, except for ND.

You are correct, they are not going to leave about a Billion dollars on the table. Itβs going to take some time to get out of the CBS contract though, so football tv ratings still matter a lot. Our Administration knows that, thatβs why the majority of the NIL money is going to football.
PS The SEC/ESPN loves womenβs hoops and softball too, packing those arenas and stadiums is big on their radar. We need to keep investing there too.
*Former heads of ESPN and Fox Sports, yep they know quite well the people in power at these sports networks, since they played a major part in picking them,

when they re-set, that $1B annual pot of gold will go up. If one takes a look at the G5 football conferences, and looks at the media money contracts - the Big East (non football), is right up there in the #1 spot in media money. While football has driven the P2 consolidation, and they will want the basketball money too no doubt, it's much easier to compete against the big boys in basketball than football. Especially in a neutral court setting like the tournament.
It was the directing the B12 was going in until the PAC imploded.

the schools not in the P2.
Donβt worry, I can see Kansas as a good fit for either the SEC or B1G, I have been saying 48 in the P2, but now with Will Stewartβs friend at Ohio State saying 48 too, I believe it even more.

compete in basketball no matter which conference they are in. Football, however, is a different story. They have a coach, and are building a stadium. Will that be enough to recruit a competitive team? We think so - but they have a much better path to the post season where they are - and that is key to a fan (me).
Honestly, I went through this, and KU has NEVER generated the kind of money Texas does, and never will. That doesn't not mean that they can't beat them on the gridiron or the court. I'm way OK with my school not being in the P2. That being said - there are some schools that would bring value and maybe a better, more competitive contract in the future in football - but they happen to be in the ACC. After that, there is no reason to expand in football - so the B12 can position themselves to be the premiere basketball conference - and that is where a KU belongs.
Honestly, I'm OK with that.

but we already have the P2 set to make double the money of the ACC and B12. Plus many think it will triple or quadruple over the next 10-20 years. So that ship has already sailed. I also eventually see the P2 having their own basketball tournament. Then schools like Kansas in basketball and Notre Dame in football (two blue bloods in their respective sports) will not be able to participate if they are not in a P2. I am not telling you this because I want this, but I am telling you this because that's what both former heads of ESPN, John Skipper and Fox, Bob Thompson said. Those guys had a huge part hiring their replacements and run consulting businesses that are paid based on them knowing where we are going. Look up their YouTube videos talking about it, if you have not seen it.
One thing I have learned, you might hate the wave, but if you fight it, the wave will win. That's what is happening to Dabo at Clemson, and why Saban got out. Dabo is young enough to adapt, but for Saban, he doesn't feel like fighting the inevitable changes anymore.

there is a separate football playoff, or a separate basketball tournament - A league like that will have to share revenue with each other - and that takes every bit of advantage that the P2 has over all the other Universities. Right now, they have most of the football money, a huge competitive advantage, the best time slots, and power to shape things as they want.
I'm not at all convinced a break away league will give them more money, and they lose their competitive advantage if the are constantly playing each other.
For now, we will have to live with the disparities, but a consolidation of all the blue bloods has never happened before - let's see how this plays out for a while, and see what happens. For instance - do you think Wisconsin has a better chance of making the playoffs now, or worse? Do you think that Florida has a better chance of winning a Natty now?
If you guys can't find a way to keep FSU - kick them to the curb, and focus on winning the ACC crown.

Fair? No probably not. I will say 8 ACC teams may survive.

collegiate athletic league. Swanky recently was quoted (paraphrase) that the other sports in college athletics need to be tied to football - that separating football is not in the interest of the SEC. He also quoted that the idea of separating and going to regional divisions because of travel concerns for the other sports, is also a non starter. He reasons that the SEC is regional, and do not have the travel issues that the BIG, B12, and now, the ACC have.
The SEC is set - and they have no reason to separate into a football only league. They have the money, the power, the brands, and the geography. Except for adding value with a few other teams, there is, and will be, no reason for the SEC to separate into a different league.
I'm also not convinced that is what FOX or ESPN want. It negates almost all of the other content they provide.
I just do not see that happening.

donβt fight it. There will be somethingβs not as good for sure, but there will be other things that are better too.

1. UNC Brand value is over the roof nationally (and that on national sports marketing is huge)
2. UNC academics (no matter what we fans think) has a national reputation that the SEC don't have
The best way is to see UNC lose in football and end up in mediocrity... (and empty seats)....

made it into the vaunted public ivy halls of academia at UVA or UNC, the Charlottesville and Chapel Hill hospitals would be full of academics suffering from the "vapors" to heart attacks from the idea of rubbing shoulders with the "great academic unwashed" SEC. :-)

than Keenan is to parts of UNC campus?
(In response to this post by tarheelblue)

Keenan Stadium is located on UNC's main campus and you can walk to it from anywhere on UNC's main campus. Carter-Finley Stadium is about a 10 minute drive from State's main campus and you can't really walk to it. Now to be fair that's because State's campus is located in the downtown of a city and UNC's campus is in a more suburban area.

would probably take an hour and a half, which isn't really feasible for most people. Kenan is within a 15 minute walk from almost anywhere on UNC's main campus.

You said it was not on campus, I walked by a part of campus that was adjacent to Carter Finley. Not disagreeing with your assertion of where the main campus is, just that Carter Finley is not isolated away from at least a part of campus. And the parking at Carter Finley is way better.

Not only do they play an hour from campus, they don't have a stadium.
Guess it's not worth building a stadium if you only have a handful of fans. Even though they are in a very "football rich environment," their current "rep" is based on "smoke and mirrors."
Bottom line: they are a small private school with no fanbase and no stadium. Their rep is "gold teeth" and "Hookers & Blow."

Miami has a huge national TV brand. It makes no sense but they do. UNC the same. If I were running one of the P2 and would look not so much about the casual viewer from out of the area looking at the "national brands of Miami and UNC but would look more about building in the area, I would go VT, NCSU and Clemson to own and dominate the media markets from DMV to 757 to Charlotte.
