Not only that, but the NCAA has done a poor job with the media contracts -

when they re-set, that $1B annual pot of gold will go up. If one takes a look at the G5 football conferences, and looks at the media money contracts - the Big East (non football), is right up there in the #1 spot in media money. While football has driven the P2 consolidation, and they will want the basketball money too no doubt, it's much easier to compete against the big boys in basketball than football. Especially in a neutral court setting like the tournament. It was the directing the B12 was going in until the PAC imploded.
