Many of our recent problems weren't just a first time OC...they were
a first time OC...AND... a first time HC...AND... a first time DC - all at once....

That's a fair statement. Being chill and trying to find solutions
is a good thing.
My only point is that in this situation, with or without seatbacks, one of us is going to be uncomfortable - and without a defined space that ends up always being me. Define each person's space and then let them use it the best they can.
They should have info on who has removed seatbacks available during seat selection, you could pick seats where the person in front of you has removed them - or they could have a section without them. Plan for the median and look at options to handle the outlier.
There are disadvantages - and advantages - to being way outside the norm - true in almost everything.

IMHO
in a completely just and technically fair world - he would have been.
Two things.
This is Will's sandbox, we're visitors.
The world isn't completely just and fair.

~2" above US adult male average height here
I'd be fine without seatbacks if I didn't have to deal with circus freaks taking my space with their knees and be so out of touch they wonder what the problem is...
Buy two same number seats in adjacent rows and spread out to your heart's content...airlines handle oversized passengers that way....usually in width though...

I get it. They aren't very comfortable and I don't particularly like them
but your height doesn't mean you get to infringe on the seat space/area I bought.
Too many times before seatbacks I'd have someone with long legs behind me just assume they could extend their legs/knees past the "imaginary" seat back and into my back - and pretend it was my fault/problem.
The seatbacks define the area. Need more space? There are options.

Only from the person in front of them....
they are not comfortable....I do like they define space, versus the guy jamming his knees in my back.

placing a transmitter on an existing structure or
erecting a tower on a very small parcel is different than a large footprint structure (although I get the precedent idea)
They won't "ban" data centers - they will "require" buildings, any building, over a certain footprint - or over a certain utility requirement - to have, say...stricter water run off regulations, provide their own utilities - or pay for infrastructure - roads, etc. around it - making them less cost effective in their area.
Localities walk a fine line giving tax breaks for a tax base and keeping residents happy with "planning"

Known it? since when? It's already a pro league and why my interest waned
I still want VT to do well, I attend games - as much for tailgates as the game - and I'm excited about the new stuff going on, but I don't follow it in excruciating detail - recruiting is just first offers on the table.
My "support" for college football isn't binary. I'm not "shaking my fist and turning it off"...I still watch, but on my terms, I don't plan my weekends around it or scour the interweb to find the latest morsel...I'm fine with players getting NIL, but don't ask me to donate so 18-20 year olds can make 6/7 figures playing a game (yeah I know the time investment is more of a job - but it is still a game)

I think some youngsters feel that if they use
something "old fashioned", even if more efficient, that somehow indicates they aren't technically savvy...
Use the best tool you have for the job required, particularly if it involves an older customer - that indicates intelligence.
Computers allow me to do in half the time what I never had to do before...of course I jest...but in some things there is some truth to that...

UCONN, ha ha
Apples and oranges, but they do it just like ND, UCONN's late season schedules thru 2029 - the furthest out released (hmm... maybe a reason) includes ONE non ACC P4. ND has three in the next 10 years.
BTW Navy isn't a P4, and they play ND every year because the Navy saved ND from bankruptcy in the 40s during the war - and ND promised to play them every year as payback - got nothing to do with current scheduling.
Do a little research versus your feeling that ND will get almost exactly the late season games they want - they will eventually get games, many teams want to play them no doubt - but ND doesn't want to play Temple, Rice, FIU, UMass, Delaware, Old Dominion, Liberty and James Madison - all on UCONNs schedule the next few years. Heck, VT fans complain about playing a couple of those in our OOC.
NDs agreement to the ACC deal wasn't just for other sports - it also makes their Oct/Nov FB scheduling for P4 teams easier - but like always they want their cake and eat it too... they try and get other P4 games, and sure they would rather play a late season B10 or SEC game (who are playing more conference games than they use to) instead of Wake or Duke - most years they would rather play fewer ACC FB games - while still having the flexability to use them if needed to fill out a schedule, that's called negotiation.

for "early in the season" games ? correct.
ND boards complain about late season scheduling.
More conference games will only make that harder - unless a break away occurs.
Go count the number of P4, non ACC games on ND's schedule in the next 10 years and get back to me.

There are some sketchy areas
near the university - but no more so than any small/average size city. There difference is the campus is very nice - right beside some of those areas. You don't go to HP for what else is in the area, but like anyplace, if you look hard enough there are interesting things.
The HP president is a fundraiser extraordinaire. They freely admit they are a "life skills" institution - not heavy research or stereotypical academia. They admit their impressive facilities are partly to ensure their students are comfortable in high end/ritzy settings, although that also matches the upbringing many of them had - and the cost confirms that.

Soooo, not counting Navy... (whew)
ND has a grand TOTAL of THREE non- ACC games scheduled in October-November for the next 10 years?
It may or may not be the ACC, but ND NEEDS some type of conference affiliation/deal (or a P2 breakaway) to fill out the late season schedule with P4 type opponents.
Sure, teams want to play ND, but conference games/schedules override. You'll get the occasional Clemson deals.
Conference schedules are decided way too late for ND to pick up the pieces for their schedule after conference game dates are confirmed.
Read the ND boards, they talk about late season scheduling issues all the time.

Very good article,
alas, the counterpoint is - if you do just what you like, what inspires you, and it doesn't get published - don't blame society for your ills.
Do what you like - see if society values it enough for you to earn a living - if so, you're one of the lucky ones. If not, make it your hobby, not your vocation.

That's hilarious...
I saw Seve at the GGO at Forest Oaks in the early 1980's - he was literally almost in the clubhouse maintenance parking lot - as in a few feet away - way off the green, and behind a bunker/trap. I was on opposite side of green - he was lower than me and behind bunker - completely out of my sight.
Heard the club contact the ball and saw it appear flying up and over the bunker - thought I might have to duck it came out so hot. Never touched the green. Slam dunk against the pin and stayed in. Sure, not what he intended - but it was on line.....

Grate ad, but 1971? I'm confused...
First year of VW van was 1949/50.
60 years old would have been in ~2010. Sixty years from 1971 is Marty McFly stuff...
Unless it is that particular model that is 60....
