Sadly, I think the season ends today…
This team has failed on the biggest stages all year long to make a statement, and I see nothing that makes me think that changes and we can beat Alabama 2 games in a row.
We are what we are.
A good team, but not an elite team. Would love to eat crow later today and admit how wrong I was, but I just don’t see it based on how we’ve performed in big games all season.

off a Triple Play! What were the chances of that? Immensely greater than taking two today in 'Bama.
Until we lose, I believe we can and will win!

The odds are against us having to win two from host team
it happens but rarely. The only way I see us coming out champion is if the bats get red hot again.

Stanford series was on a big stage. They went 3-0. Weather prevented the win against Clemson. They are capable. I think we all know it won’t be easy. They know that. Let’s go!

But we have to not leave it in the hands of the NCAA. They do not want to be shown up for putting AL in the top 16

I had to chuckle at your subject. If we win the first our odds of winning the 2nd increase dramatically…sure do…from 0%
But I get you. Massive swing of pressure over to Bama if we take them to elimination game

Across the board. There is some allowance for Bama to have some "errp" moments.
Umps and review team are another story.

Oklahoma will embarrass Alabama also.
Doesn’t really matter to them. Just names on jerseys and different colors.

The Hokies have the talent to compete with any team and win. Many would probably say VT should have beaten Bama in game one.
At this level of play it takes talent, execution, and game IQ to win. It takes having a confidence that is borderline cocky. This team has the talent. But they haven’t executed when needed and they seem to lack confidence at times and a killer instinct to put games away. To ignore this or say it’s just bad luck only contributes to a continued pattern resulting in outcomes we don’t want.
The ladies can do this. They have the talent. Step on the field and up to the plate today and use this talent with the confidence you are better, execute the smallest of plays to perfection, and play smart with a chip on your shoulders. No free passes for Bama today. Make them earn everything and if the series falls their way we will tip our cap to them.
I’ll be watching with the belief we are the better team and can take two today.

I am as passionate as they come when supporting all of our athletic teams. Played a couple of sports a long time ago at Tech, so I bleed orange and maroon. However, I try to never wear orange and maroon glasses. For some reason, we struggle to win big games in any sport most of the time. If we just play an average game yesterday against Bama, we win. Yes, we had some calls go against us. However, if we played well in all phases yesterday, we still win 4-1 in my opinion. Am I going to root as loud as possible today, damn right I am. However, I am not going to be disappointed if we lose. I truly believe that on paper, we have the better roster. However, we still have to make plays in the field. I truly hope we move on to Norman. To steal a quote…… big time players make big time plays in big time games. Today is a big time game!!! Go Hokies!!!!

Mean more in the SEC and Bama has championship DNA 🧬 we do not. I know “ it just means more” is marketing, but it’s the truth.
I love VT and we are a significant academic institution that have athletics.

Beat a top 5 FSU. Our best can win 2 absolutely. Unfortunately Alabama gets home field advantage EVERY year in regionals regardless of their resume. It’d be nice if they had to play on the road ONCE

Re: Jack Lyngyel "heart" encouragement at the cemetery, or "finest hour" reply by Gene Kranz.
Pete and staff (and team leadership) will have them ready. Will have shaken off the jitters and umpire/review angst.

It's going to be a ton of fun to watch our team play loose and win the first inning. And then win an inning or 3 after that to take game 1.
And once we get into the final 'when necessary' game, all the pressure shifts over to Bama, and anything can happen from there.
Go Hokies very excited to watch our team compete.

. . . reason. Patrick Murphy does not let his players get too high on themselves. Don't assume the hubris you see in the stands exists in the locker room.

It is my biggest pet peeve when people say things like "I think the season ends today", what does that mean?
Sports are probabilistic, not deterministic. Hokies have already shown they can win a game at Alabama this year, so there is very obviously a realistic chance they can win two games.
If the Hokies play 100 games at Alabama, how many do you think they win? 40? 45? I'll say .45, then then the chance of winning the regional is .45*.45, good for about 20%.
So, my question again is, what does you think the season ends today mean? That it is more likely than not we go home? Well, obviously, according to the math. But things with a 20% chance happen all the time! Our Hokies can absolutely win today!

Doesn't happen often but it happens because one at-bat is independent of every other at-bat.
