Posting History (485)

So far it appears the April Hokies made the Western trip

Was hoping the team that was 14-6 recently would stay hot for the regionals

Lynch continues to swing at bad pitches

Odds of good outcomes are obviously very low with this approach She seems so anxious to swing at something

Got to love how our pitchers have performed most of this year

If they all stay next year could be very special I say that knowing that this year could still be special also!!

So far the past ball is the difference

We need to get to this new pitcher. I’d hate to lose like this

This ump definitely not a friend to Avery

With his ****ty calls he has gotten into her head I’m afraid. Shake it off young lady

We do not want to finish around a 14 to 20 seed

If we’ve lost ourselves out of a 12-14 seed or higher and hosting then we might as well drop on down lower so we’re not lined up with one of the top four seeds if we would win a regional

It’s not often a team gives up 11 walks and wins

Pretty dismal offensive display against pretty average pitching. It happens but the timing is unfortunate The big question is how our players react down the road. These last 2 games have been a pretty big confidence buster for our batters and two top pitchers

Umpire squeezing strike zone, bad defense

And poor situational offense is a recipe for a big loss. We need to stop the bleeding at least to enter next week with a little momentum

So Hillary in for a second round

Let’s see if the ladies can time up the change and put it in the trees

Unfortunately lately Mazelle and Rohs end a lot of rallies

They will need to pick it up come tournament time as we really haven’t found a reliable pinch hitter other than Mazz

Seems all Va pitchers have a pretty good change up

And we have shown all season we just don’t do well against those type pitchers. I’m sure we are constantly guessing and it throws off the timing on every at bat. Admittedly anyone whose ever played fast pitch softball hates the change. It can make batters really look bad

Tech just can’t seem to make solid contact

Seems our timing is off. Just no ring on the bat except several balls pulled foul. I can’t tell if the Va pitcher is changing speeds or not

Both pitchers are busting it tonite

If they keep this up it will be a HR that wins this game. I’m not expecting lots of hits. Lots of two strike counts by Bigham

Yeager has been in a pretty bad slump the last several games

Not getting many solid at bats and batting average has really dropped. Hopefully she can figure it out as we really need her bat.

Good pitching trumps good hitting everytime

Got to give their pitcher credit. Had our hitters off their game all night. We never really adjusted. We will probably see her again in game three. Be interesting to see if we can make the necessary changes at the plate

So when do our ladies adjust and move up in the box

Their pitcher is now throwing almost exclusively drops. Moving up in the box always helps to catch the ball early before it drops

Got to give the State poi hers some credit

We’re not seeing too many good pitches to hit. Lots of excuse me swings and swings at the low drop ball

Man everyone is hitting the ball right on the barrel

With the exception of Rohs this is one tough lineup at the plate this year

I realize Chatfield finally scored

But the double steal could have been executed with ease. Chatfield never left the bag at all. Just not sure what the 3rd base coach is telling our runner on that play. Not too savy

Baker ends up 8-15 with 14 rebounds

Other 4 starters a combined 6-32. They were totally in disarray on offense the whole game Bench was 7-19 and played well at times. On to next year

Baker a prime example of streak shooting

For three quarters she was lucky to get close. Last quarter she can’t miss. That can make a big difference in any game

I call this a behind the woodshed whipping

They are beating us in all aspects. Our effort is there but it seems we are just out of sorts. Missed easy shots, badly missed threes and no really good flow on offense. Our speed ladies even seem to be two steps slow

So we cut the lead to six at halftime

With our two leading scorers on the bench with foul trouble. Bench and Nelson with a really nice quarter. Now Wenzel and Baker need to take over the last half and the others keep up their great 2nd quarter effort

So here comes Wheeler for Duke

She’s going to be disappointed when her pitches 6 inches off the plate aren’t called strikes tonight!!

So imagine you are coach Pete

You’ve already made two controversial decisions on your starting pitcher in games one and two resulting in catastrophic first innings. How do you decide your pitching rotations in game three knowing you are going to see Curd and it will most likely be a low scoring game?

We need to get to Dukes younger pitchers

Because I believe we might get Curd in the late innings unless they are saving her for tomorrow

Duke gets a lead and then they play really loose

We need to put them in a little more bind and they will tighten up

Umpires seldom call balls strikes but call a lot of strikes balls

This ump has contradicted that several times including that last low inside third strike. They have also totally taken away the top part of the strike zone. A strike is at the batters sternum when they are standing straight. The belt seems to now be the top of the zone. That’s tough on rise ball pitchers

Do we keep a stats on players thrown out at the plate?

Seems our percentage is pretty high. Someone needs to analyze opposing players arms before we play and make sure the third base coach can use that in his decision making. I know it seems obvious but when I played and coached the third base coach needed to be quick in his decision making utilizing all the variables. It’s always a tough call but we just seem to be on the wrong side way too often

Checking stats our pitchers tossed over 180 pitches in 7 innings

At that rate we will need all the pitchers we have on the roster. I don’t know if they are nibbling or just can’t hit their spots but this will need to get fixed before conference season starts
