Posting History (628)

Many more HS kids will be pushed to go D2, D3, JUCO etc. This extra year

of eligibility (portal already does this to an extent now) will really put recruitable HS seniors that aren't blue chips as a low priority for the D1 programs in general. The cream will eventually rise to the top even from the lower divisions and I understand why they want to do it but there are negatives to everything as well.

We are navigating this world now with my daughter being a sophomore in HS

You are correct in being able to measure up how good a pitcher or any other player will be at the next level due to the amount of dilution of talent in travel ball. It's just a huge money grab and far too many organizations, teams, tournaments, and showcases to get a good read on how good a player is. Gamechanger stats are garbage because the scorekeepers are daddies/mommies and just want to give preferential treatment to some or all of their kids on the team. Many coaches at showcase tournaments are still trying to "win the showcase" so they don't put kids at their different positions every couple of innings or change pitchers out. They also don't give equal at-bats to kids by setting the lineup and just letting it flow through each game by starting at the next batter up. It's just poorly run by tournament directors, coaches and all involved honestly and costs the parents way more than it's worth. Attending college camps has been our best money spent and best way to get noticed for the players.

I feel sorry for those kids. Unfortunately, there are terrible people...

in all walks of life. This type of abuse happened at NCST and at ETSU in the recent past. The parents trusted these coaching staffs to take care of their kids and help them be good students while playing the game they love and they do this. It's sickening.

Hough has a good football program. One of my daughter's travel SB teammates

goes to Hough and her dad is always talking to me about Hough's football. Hopefully Franklin and staff comes back down here into NC and develops a pipeline from the Charlotte/Greensboro/Raleigh/Western NC areas again. Got some great football talent down here. ** Edited by NC_Hokies at 12/12/2025, 9:09:09 AM

I know the Pry hire is polarizing for some people but...

by my understanding from everything I heard, Pry is a big reason Franklin is here. This may have been a plan by Franklin all along (hire Pry as DC) and may be one of the biggest reasons he is here. If true, we can't really be mad as a fanbase. I imagine there will be big turnover in personnel (and already has been) so many of the players that played for Pry will be gone anyway. Now, if the defense doesn't improve with better players they are bringing in, Pry will be on a short leash. ** Edited by NC_Hokies at 12/7/2025, 12:49:15 PM

Takes the right guy pulling strings as well. Safe to say if VT had hired

one of the other potential coaching candidates, the recruiting class wouldn't have made it into the top 25. Now, I am not a huge believer in class rankings because some of those guys will work out and some will not but at the moment the hire seems to be the best move VT could have made with what was available. Obviously the true impact of the hire won't be seen for a few years though with development, player retention, future recruiting classes, staff hiring and ultimately win/loss record.

Would love to see VT start nabbing some good recruits again from NC

NC -> VT used to be a thing but was lost somewhere along the way unfortunately. Got some good recruits down here in the Old North State.

Some people are never satisfied. He will probably be fired in a few years

Lane has gone through this cycle before. ** Edited by NC_Hokies at 11/30/2025, 5:39:23 PM

That's why it was imperative for VT to inject big money and hire Franklin

VT now has a chance to be invited to P2 and not be left on the outside looking in. Hopefully it works out

I don't see us scoring unless we get a turnover so it's a complete reset

Every streak VT had with regards to football will be gone after this game and a new era will be ushered in for the better.

They don't until they do. VT is looking to get back to relevance not win a

national championship. Have to get the recruits in and coach them up before he "gets over the hump".

I would rather have a coveted coach than a Pry or Fuente. If JF gets lured

away at some point it will mean that VT football has done very well leading up to then. VT is a great place but it will most likely never be a "destination" job like Bama, OSU, UF, UTx, etc. VT does offer many advantages over those places to a head football coach, so hopefully Franklin sees and understands that and stays a while. ** Edited by NC_Hokies at 11/18/2025, 6:15:57 PM
