Agree or disagree, looking for responses. Emma Lemley was a
damn good pitcher, but thus far in her young career Carrico is as good or better. And other than maybe the insiders, coaches or players that is, it was unexpected. What do you say? Thanks in advance.

Way to early. Would bree carrico be drafted right now?
No. Carrico is showing she can be good and can escape jams. She isnt elite. Lemley was close to elite but was not really rochard or tincher… close. But to argue carrico is as good or better would be a recency viewpoint.

Emma was a workhorse that carried the load a long time
for this program. Also have to remember Emma had to change her pitching form to comply with NCAA rules between her freshman and sophomore seasons and then change it back before her junior year because they finally got rid of that dumb rule. I still believe that robbed her of an even better career. Bree is great and if she continues on this path she may go down as one of the best.

Oh, I'm sure it robbed her of a better career....
And don't forget the year she didn't have a pitching coach. ** Edited by `lag at 4/12/2026, 11:13:46 AM

Completely forgot about the pitching coach situation.

Too early in BC career to compare to EL. One is building stats, one done.
Let's just ride this wave and enjoy it for what it is. Go Hokies

Yes, far too early. One can argue that Lemley's best season was her . .
. . . freshman year. Let's wait to see what Carrico does over the next couple.

Thanks for the reminder
She is the only Hokie ALL AMERICAN I ever shook hands with years ago at a VT wrestling match. At the time, she was still a VT coach & ladies had completed game vs UNC & the ladies stop by to see conclusion of the wrestling match…,Hokies won both events I may never wash my hands again (tic of course)

Tincher is on the VT Mount Rushmore of Athletes and may be the best VT
athlete in the school's history. That being said batting has come a long way since those days. I will also say if you gave Tincher this offense they would of won a Natty.

Absolutely! I remember she had over 20 strikeouts in one game! She was
a warrior machine and in my opinion overused her junior and senior years. If VT had an offense around her, I'm convinced they could have played for a national championship. Quite a dominant pitcher.

If she had had this years O, VT would have at least one natty.

Not sure Scott could spell "offense", much less coach it.
Her arm got us to the WS. Agree, if she had had one of D'Amour's offenses, VT would have had a Natty.

AT threw 124 COMPLETE GAMES. Think about that!

And you may know, Midlo, that the old ACC format was a single game and a
doubleheader. On more than one occasion, as I remember it, Angela pitched all three games and threw every inning. Imagine throwing both ends of a double header with only a 30 minute break in between. She was not a big kid but she was amazing. Although she played in 1A at the time in high school she had 17 consecutive shutouts one season.

She did play big time travel ball her senior year with the Shamrocks. . . .
. . . the team had at least 3 future All-Americans but she was already committed to VT at that point.

That's probably why she didn't get attention from the big schools then.
VT got her at the cost of 1/2 scholie.

Plus a no-no against Team USA. 1 walk fm a perfect game.
Team USA got no balls past the infield.

I always felt that it was an indictment of Scot Thomas that he . . .
. . . didn't build a better team around her. She made his job pretty easy. Just hand her the ball and watch.

Haha. I always have said that if Scot had marketed Angela as well as Denny
did we would have a couple of national titles. I know you know what I’m talking about.

If Denny or Scot.....
had marketed Angela better she may never have gotten to or stayed at VT. ;-). I am happy that did not happen. She was a workhorse and aside from the freshman injury to the plant leg/foot that the brace supported she was always ready to go. Her body, arm and mental toughness were very resilient.

Thankfully that was before the portal era. Arizona or UCLA would've had her

Carrico was a top 50 national recruit
She just took a year to get ready Lemley had more velocity Bree has more spin and more variety of pitches I’d say Bree has potential to have lower ERA for her career but do it differently…fewer Ks and less likely to throw no hitters ** Edited by hokiepro at 4/12/2026, 1:19:49 AM

Toward the end of of our tailgate I went over to the parents tailgate. I
Wanted to thank them for entrusting their daughters to us. I found Brees father cleaning his grill. Dang. He didn't look like he could be more than 30. I told him my spiel and he said oh there was never any doubt. It's been Brees dream since she was a child to pitch for the Hokies.

Yeah, Chip and I went over and talked to him also...
...he must have gotten a lot of that 🤩 1) brushed off the compliments/taking credit 2) He was ready to throw-in on the tailgate, had his apron on, his grill going...you can kind of see where Bree might be getting her role model for dedication to craft. ** Edited by `lag at 4/12/2026, 11:24:01 AM
