We are navigating this world now with my daughter being a sophomore in HS
You are correct in being able to measure up how good a pitcher or any other player will be at the next level due to the amount of dilution of talent in travel ball. It's just a huge money grab and far too many organizations, teams, tournaments, and showcases to get a good read on how good a player is.
Gamechanger stats are garbage because the scorekeepers are daddies/mommies and just want to give preferential treatment to some or all of their kids on the team. Many coaches at showcase tournaments are still trying to "win the showcase" so they don't put kids at their different positions every couple of innings or change pitchers out. They also don't give equal at-bats to kids by setting the lineup and just letting it flow through each game by starting at the next batter up. It's just poorly run by tournament directors, coaches and all involved honestly and costs the parents way more than it's worth. Attending college camps has been our best money spent and best way to get noticed for the players.
