Totally depends on if party drinking songs or sad drinking songs for me. I’m a sucker for sad country music as if mostly makes me happy.
For those in this thread that miss old school country, there’s still good country being made, you just don’t hear it for the most part in pop country radio. Checkout the Texas/red dirt scene, the Appalachian scene and you’ll find good music.

They aren't.
Bluegrass is far more technical than country, and usually much better.
Take Townes Van Zandt's White Freightliner Blues as a prime example. Just compare his original recording to Molly Tuttle's bluegrass version...there is no comparison. Molly just crushes it!

Love Molly Tuttle and she has a couple dates coming up in our "area" (Cumberland MD, Solon Va, Birchmere)
I don't know what it is, country music isn't my thing either, but what is it that folks have to definitively declare they're not fans of country music as in "I love that song, but I don't like country music" Well, apparently you do like country music, just a little bit of it. Afraid of being called a redneck in their minds I guess, I dunno.

But the big umbrella of “country music†crosses lots of areas. You can take it back to Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Tammy wyneete and glen campbell to Garth brooks to modern pop country of Carrie Underwood, Kenny chesny and Brad paisley.
I just either confess or proudly state I’ve never owned a pair of cowboy boots or cowboy hat, and if the party is in a barn, I’ll be a little outta place.
I’ll also say any Yankee or 757 or Novite needs to visit the country store in Floyd county on a Friday night

but yeah, come across it all the time on youtube, people make a point of letting you know they are no way associated with country music: "Well, I really like this and I don't even like country music" OK, ya got a little cognitive dissonance going on there.
I don't really hear that anywhere else eg "I don't really like reggae but I like Bob Marley" kinda stuff.
I've been to the Floyd country store, also that pizza place has a pretty nice stage too where I saw Floyd's own Morgan Wade. And I kinda like the old stuff in country, not so much the newer stuff which if anything, seems to have taken over the stadium rock niche. Saw Brad Paisley the night before the VT - WV game at Lane, have his pick in fact.

Own most of his music. The thing about Bluegrass covers is that they up the tempo and sing much higher. Townes is country blues and almost all of his stuff is fairly slow tempo. So most of the covers of his stuff that deviate a lot aren't to my taste. But that's just me. Molly is no doubt talented and if I wasn't a Townes junkie I would probably like it better.

Although this is not a concert version, you can see and hear her much better in this video. The best I've seen her perform this was during the Country Music Hall of Fame benefit concert, but that has been taken down on YouTube. :(
