I think all of United States Media should filter through a language switch.
There are 7,159 languages known to humans currently on planet earth.
With the automatic-language-Switcherooo, all movies, tv shows, podcasts, music, and information could systematically switch languages every 15 minutes until each of the 7,159 languages could be heard.
That way each significant language can be represented and everyone can be miserable 7,158/7159th of the time not knowing what the hell is being said. However, each language could be used once every 74.6 days.
But what language should we start using in the first 15 minute segment of all media outlets nation wide you ask?
Why Silbo Gomero would of course be the best language to start with.....

I can't imagine any advertiser that actually takes their fudiciary responsibility seriously can be happy with the number of eyes that left the broadcast for 45 minutes.

The quarter hour segment numbers are out now. Halftime show lost ~8 million viewers.
That's the biggest halftime audience decline in history. NBC lost almost 9 million viewers; Telemundo gained about 1 million for a net loss of 7.7 million viewers from late 2nd qtr. However, except the last two years, viewers go up for halftime shows so the effective audience loss is even higher.
Down 7% from 2nd quarter peak and 5.7% from the preceding quarter hour is an unmitigated disaster for NBC and the NFL. Advertisers can't be happy.
I'll say it again, being a provocateur is rarely good for the bottom line.

Are the advertising rates for international games higher? Doubtful. Has the NFL made appreciable inroads with international audiences? Doubtful. Does being the distant 2nd or 3rd (or worse) sport in those markets help the NFL brand or bottom line? Doubtful.

And Soccer has been trying to expand the US market for 50 years.
Soccer has been about as successful at integrating in the US as the metric system. If not for the large international population which has entered this country since the late-80s, it would be absolutely nothing. Football is nothing more than a curio for non-expats internationally.
Neither has been as successful as baseball or basketball internationally - probably because those developed far more organically in the countries that took to them. People developed an appreciation for the games rather than being pummeled with hype.

How does sending 10s of millions of viewers elsewhere during halftime or playing games in international markets at 10am (or 7am Pacific time) improve the NFL’s bottom line?
Goodell and the owners are stuck in the 2010’s model of thinking this nonsense is insurance against criticism. If the NFL wasn’t the perfect betting game, these guys would be circling the drain.

First of all, billions of people don't watch the super bowl. The US audience is about 125 million or so and has declined as a percentage of the population in the last 10 years, i.e. the ratings. The international audience is about half that - ~65 million - of which, I'm guessing a significant percentage are ex-pats or Canadians. Still, let's generously say 40 million non-US affiliated people outside of the US watching out of...8 billion? Awesome. That's 0.5%. And you can bet the advertising rates for that 0.5% is a small fraction of what the US rates are.
So how does losing 15% or more of your most important market - by far, especially for advertising revenue goes - make business sense? Particularly given the hoops people had to jump through to do so?
Being a provocateur is rarely good for the bottom line.

Not everyone is going to like it, and I'm not knocking anyone for disliking it. Really, to each his own. But just talking eyes on the screen, I don't think it's a bad move. Football fans will watch the game regardless, but bringing in the most streamed artist at halftime brings in lots of non-football fans.
