I can tell you the objectification has had long-term consequences. She didn't start cheering because she "wanted to be looked at", she was like 10 years old. But once you start, if you want to keep doing it, you better fit the mold or you'll be mocked pretty badly (at least 20 years ago). It's just a uniform, not a statement that you want to be objectified. The rest of her life has been spent trying to fit that mold. It's not healthy. I know I'm a Debbie Downer, and I apologize if I'm taking it out on you. Just a sore subject, and I can understand why someone might feel the way you do.

You can have class and RUTS a bit. They're not mutually exclusive. It's not a summer camp, it's an FBS football game. If one team is better, they might win by a lot. If this offends someone, maybe sports aren't for them. Do I think it's necessary to throw a Hail Mary in the last minute when you're up by 50 against directional Michigan? No. But you also don't need to totally change your game to prevent your team from scoring. Those minutes are valuable, and I want my players learning what it feels like to score. I want them to be used to that feeling and crave more of it.

Not everyone is going to like it, and I'm not knocking anyone for disliking it. Really, to each his own. But just talking eyes on the screen, I don't think it's a bad move. Football fans will watch the game regardless, but bringing in the most streamed artist at halftime brings in lots of non-football fans.

Additionally, to add to what Hate2See said below, every school puts out some B.S. duds, so a few football "degrees" doesn't hurt their reputation. Handing out a PhD to a football player with no real credentials? That's a no-go.

JF started recruiting those players years ago, and they've had multiple years to develop a relationship with JF. They continued with him because of that relationship that already existed. My point is that it will be harder to start building those relationships. Getting his foot in the door is easier at a bigger program with more recent relevancy on a national stage. Like it or not, there is less prestige at VT right now than there was PSU in 2024/2025. It will be harder at VT, IMHO. That said, I agree that his reputation, personality, etc. carry a lot of weight, regardless of where he is. I also think VT is a great program he can sell. Once we start winning (when...not if), I only expect that to be more true.

impressive, those kids weren't just being recruited to JF, they were being recruited to PSU who had just made a run in the playoffs. I'll be interested to see how his recruiting prowess translates to VT moving forward. Can he still open the doors to NEW recruits now that he's at VT? Can he get VT to be where PSU was so that there's no practical difference? That said, I'm super excited about where we are already, and I'm hoping for the best in 2027.

it felt good to root for them TBH. I miss the days of Big East football, and I'm hoping we can match that energy moving forward. I'm rooting for Miami because I want them to show us what the ACC can be, and I want VT to step up and match it.

PSU needed (or so they think) a coach who can scheme to defeat OSU. They have recruits and energy to win. But they can't win the big games. If Chesney can maintain the recruiting and energy, or close, and scheme better, that's what they think they need. VT needs something different. We need recruiting and energy. Then maybe we'll need the perfect scheme to beat OSU too. Franklin gives us what we need. It's two different needs that require two different solutions. It could be that we're both equally happy with how things went down.

Let James Franklin get the headlines and the money stuff come later. But I'm not a marketing guy, so my opinion means nothing.

Think of what that half a billion could have done if it were spent somewhere it's truly needed. How good a school is depends on how much it's rich alumni prioritize football over other more deserving causes IMO. Yes, it's possible that those same donors are equally supporting causes that my admittedly biased and meaningless opinion deems worthy. And I freely admit I could do better myself. But it sure feels icky. These people don't deserve that much money, and they won't get mine. It'd be hypocritical for me to expect a return on my non-investment, so I've just lowered my expectations.

Did they play NFL together? Or was NCAA a more likely place to keep it in the family than NFL? Do you believe that those family members would have played at the same school if NIL existed? College football was fun because fans could feel like we were a part of it, and there was a unique relationship between players, schools, students, and alumni. We watched players grow from teenagers to professionals. VT would offer at risk and see the reward pay off for everyone (just not a monetary reward for the player at the time). There's a reason families like the Edmunds brothers kept sending their kids here. Virginia Tech was a part of their family. That just doesn't exist like it used to, so college football has lost a lot of its appeal for many. Money has changed the way it works...it has removed some of the loyalty and camaraderie. Some of that camaraderie wasn't real, as it was forced by unlawful NCAA restrictions, but much of it wasn't. The NCAA didn't force Marcus Vick to follow his brother. In the days of NIL, I doubt Marcus would have made the same choice. BTW, I'm not saying the NIL decision was wrong. It's capitalism, and I'm on board. I just also like college football less as a result. Both things are true.

I do think there's a difference between saying "nobody says it" and "I don't hear it", but your point is well taken. Also, I do hear Redskins occasionally to be more accurate. It's often coupled with an eye roll and a correction. Most people are saying Commanders from what I hear. How many pro-level recruits are available for each major football program in any state? If we're talking about the importance of in-state recruiting, I think it's relevant. Virginia's got fewer pro-level players per capita than Mississippi, but we've got a lot more people than Mississippi. We have really 2 options for recruits (VT and UVA) similar to Mississippi (Ole Miss and Miss State). So how do the pro-level players per school compare?

for heading elsewhere. Loyalty is a two way street. We're telling our homegrown guys that we can find a better player from somewhere else to start over them, despite them putting in the work and starting for 1.5 years. How could we possibly preach loyalty and be angry at Pedulla or whomever for looking elsewhere. I'm not saying it's wrong or right...just that it is clearly going both ways. I will say it's not as fun for a fan to watch IMHO.
