The win tonight...
Means VT clinches another winning season no matter what. A sad sad song for those who want to fire MY.

My original post said making it above .500 was detrimental to the hopes of those who wanted to fire him.
I followed that up by saying .500 wasn't a fireable offense
So maybe Google the term "moving the goalposts"

That .500 bar is something no coach at VT has ever done so...

that provides perspective on what may be a high, mediocre or low bar as far as performance. You can pick current coaches or all time coaches as both would provide perspective and might actually better inform your opinions.

Yeah, I think Moir was the last coach to have a winning conference record.
62-48. And that was when we'd take somebody like Russell Pierre and get put on probation, haha.
Greenberg: 68-76 (47.2%)
Buzz: 44-46 (48.9%)
Young: 44-48 (47.8%)
Virginia Tech is the only school where Buzz Williams has not had a winning conference record (he's at 53.2% at A&M, and was at 63.9% at Marquette).

A perennial Top 25 team. That would be great, but those posters just assume it's all about the coach. A very uninformed philosophy.

going forward enough to allow CMY to retire @ VT?

It's enough to retire at any school

would be benefitted by a little more perspective on program performances. Aside from the blue bloods, it would be interesting to look at overall records, conference records, home versus away records, etc. to get a feeling for averages and where programs fit in those rankings.
Couple that with VT's historical trends as a basketball program and I am guessing we find expectations outstrip actual realities in most people's minds. Throw in the actual resources devoted to the program and then you get a measure of the the true efficiency of the program. It is natural to have expectations and want more but, those expectations must be tempered with perspective and realistic assessments about what can be achieved with present resources and what increased level of commitment is needed to achieve higher desired levels coupled with a plan. My sense is for a very long time VT went without that thinking but, I think in more recent times that approach has become more commonplace.

Then Rodney Rice decided to transfer. My expectations dropped to mid-level ACC team, with an outside chance at making NCAA tourney. It looks like we will roughly meet those lowered expectations.

. . . fact the women's side of the league is tougher than the men's.

look at Brooks' record since 2005-2006, with the exception of the shortened COVID year, he has won 20 every year and often substantially more. Despite the murmuring of some message board geniuses you have to be able to coach a little to generate that level of winning and consistency.

"those" are one or two knuckleheads on the board out of hundreds. if everyone posted a "told you so" to every uninformed opinion ever posted on this board, it would be unreadable.

Reason to stop spending so much time on this board. Just not something I need to be around.

all know why CMY, and of course WB, should still be fired.
