When have you felt the worst at Lane Stadium?
For me it is a four-way tie:
1 walking out in silence after the Miami of Ohio loss
2 walking out in silence after the Temple loss
3 Walking out in silence after the JMU loss
4 Being subjected to Jessie’s Girl being played on the sound system during halftime

And the "non Lane" game that stung more than all of them that I was at....2010 Boise at FedEx. Still haunts me

Not only was that loss physically painful due to the insane low temperatures but losing to VMI on the field was a punch in the gut.

The BC game was absolutely heartbreaking and I don’t think I have ever been as wet walking to the car afterwards. We were totally soaked.
The JMU game was frustrating in a different way - no way should we ever lose that game. I was working for Advance Auto Parts at . the time and because we were a big sponsor, my wife and I had an invitation to go to Frank Beamer’s house afterwards.
I was so mad that I wasn’t going to go, but my wife said I would always regret it if I didn’t, so we went. I walked in the front door, still absolutely furious and Cheryl met us with the sweetest smile, telling us how much it meant for them for us to come. Frank arrives a few minutes later with his folksy style (“man, some days it just doesn’t pay to get out of bed”) and all was quickly forgiven. He went on to say that he had a very good football team and that the last time VT started 0-2, they won the next 10 games. The same thing happened that year. 😀

That game was legendarily bad juju on multiple fronts -- not least of which: as later events played out, had VT won that game, the Hokies would have finished #2 and made an appearance in the NC game. VT finished #3; we can go ahead and forget about gagging the bowl game away to Kansas.

#1 - 2002 - sept 27, 2001 vs Syracuse. Was living in Germany and wife said we have to take our toddlers to this base Halloween party. There happened to be a television and the game was being broadcast on Armed Forces Network (AFN) . The game belongs in the record of really ugly Tech football games. The Hokies were #5 in the country, but grant Noel wasn’t a top five qb. 8 pm, European time, my son starts having a reaction, someone said he had some Reese’s pieces. Heck I can at least watch this horrid performance at the Halloween party. They probably don’t have the game on at the ER. Long story short, learned our boy had a peanut allergy and found out the Hokies lost on legendarily bad performance on my computer when I got home. A memorably bad Halloween
#2 was the next year against Pitt

supposed to fell bad about losing.
A lot to choose from but the JMU loss and the Matty Ice game (in a monsoon) rank right up there.
As a bonus... the most viscerally pissed I've ever been over a VT loss was Cinn at Fed Ex.... that 1st half was the worst display of offense ever recorded, only to be topped by a last play defensive brain fart of a play.

And the very next game my bro and a VT BUD watched our first Miami BE WIN!
We won our next 9 to finish 10-2 and that started the 15 year run of excellence and Franks HOF CAREER.

2007 BC is the easy answer for me, as others have said.
2005 Miami was when I accepted VT would never win a national championship.
2013 against Duke is when I realized I just didn't enjoy going to games anymore. Our daughter had just been born before a few months before, so I already felt guilty going off and leaving my family behind to go to a game. Watching Tech struggle against Duke at home and ultimately lose was the clincher that made me realize I just didn't have the desire to go to games anymore. I haven't been to one since.

I have ever been through in Blacksburg and I have been through a few! However, as sacramento hokie notes below, the next weekend was beautiful when we beat Miami- a season topped off by the Sugar Bowl win!

My Question- When have you felt the BEST walking out of Lane?
Mine are-
1. When we beat BC to finish a perfect regular season and head to the MNC game
2. When we hammered a Nick Saban coached LSU team 24-6 in front of my two daughters who were LSU students!
3.When we beat Miami in 1995 after starting 0-2 and then winning out including the Sugar Vs Texas
4.When Don Strock thru for 527 yards and we beat Oklahoma State 32-31!when they missed a last second extra point
5.And this should have been higher- when we beat UNCheat 59-7 in 2017 with Tim Settle and company and the Holes looked like rag dolls Vs men

We had a big halftime lead but Aaron Brooks got as hot as any QB I have ever seen in Lane. The UVa loss following Temple & Syracuse really made me wonder if we could win close games again. But then we clobber Bama in bowl and roll in ‘99. 👍

minutes. That play has replayed in my mind way too many times in slo motion. Had a bad feeling when Bud went to the infamous prevent type defense and only rushed three, who were probably already gassed.

BC game was terrible, dagger in the heart, (caused a long quiet drive from blacksburg back to richmond)
I got one that was just like it 1984 UVA and VT in Blacksburg, where VT called a blitz and mackoski the qb of UVA (and future Green Bay QB) passed over the blitz for the touchdown and win. Talk about a stab to the heart.

we walked down to the south east exits, it was 10-7 and BC had the ball back and was trying to score to win. So, I huddled up near the rail surrounded by BC fans who had also left early and had to watch VT blow the game in the final seconds.
I was soaked to the bone. So, fortunately I didn't have to ride a bus all the way back home soaking wet. But it was bad.
Easily the worst I've felt leaving lane.
2nd worse was the 1998 UVA game after I spent the entire game yelling trash to the UVA team and some of their players waved good bye to me after the game.
