8 million, but only 100k annual increases thereafter?
He needs a better agent.

Happy to see a fellow Hokie alum finding success & financial rewards

He should send a big donation to his Alma mater.

His temper tantrum during/after bowl game must have iced the deal
showed his passion for his team (even if he was wrong in what other HC meant by his actions), all in all just makes college football more stupid than before, but I'm glad for any Hokie to have success in life!

$8 mil a year for a 29-22 coach. This sport has too much money
His best conference finish is 5-3 His best overall finish is 9-4 He is 1-2 in bowl games Yes he seems to be recruiting well, but the overall results don't seem worth $8 mil a year. But if that's what they want to spend their money on, good for Shane.

Wasn’t he SEC coach of the year? Plus he’s won more games in his first 4
yrs than any coach in SC history. That includes legends like Spurrier and Holtz. ** Edited by Hokie`79 at 1/24/2025, 8:03:30 PM

Yes. He was the AP’s 2024 SEC Coach of the Year.

Don't seem worth 8 mil to you, it is a very free market right now and
Shane's market worth is 8 mil a year. I'd imagine Jim Knowles hire by either PSU, Oklahoma or ND will drive up market price for a good DC. I would not be surprised if reason Pry's search is taking so long is # of elite school DC jobs coming open since Marve was let go. There is a domino effect with this. Usually the high turnover is among OCs, just our luck this year it is DCs!

Feel like he's going to be the SEC's Jeff Fisher. Never great or terrible.

Guess he's not gonna be our DC

Once Shane has two back to back 7 win seasons, it will all be over at USC.
Then Shane will be primed and ready to take the helm at VT, if PRYBO is still struggling. Take next season, say USC loses the following games.... LSU, Oklahoma, Alabama, Texas A&M, Clemson and wins the rest......... He has one more season to beat 7 wins, or he is TOAST. 2024 > 9 wins 2023 > 5 wins 2022 > 8 wins 2021 > 7 wins His Average is 7.25 wins per season. Good Luck Shane!! In todays college football, keeping any team consistent is like trying to catch farts in a windstorm. Remember folks, any man can fart in a closed room and say he controls the wind. At some point in life, everyone has gambled on a fart and lost, even Shane. GO HOKIES!! ** Edited by jonnyhawk at 1/24/2025, 12:52:36 PM

Shane doesn't want any part of the VT job. He's smarter than that.

He has life time financial security with that buyout
They could fire him year two and he would be banking until 2030- huge bank.

If things went south at USC, coming to VT would look pretty good.
Of course, VT would have to want him back and the PRYBO experiment would need to be nearing completion.

He's been to the big city and won't be coming home
Coached all over the country under successful people, has seen what big time football looks like. If he gets fired he won't have to work another day in his life. My guess he would take time off and go in another direction (non compete clause) and maybe come back to coach in a big conference later.

I don't think we'll see him here anytime soon
And I don't see him being fired in the next few years at all

That would be awesome! He's one of our wealthy alums, hit him up for
a donation when shaking hands after our game in ATL!

Impressed by the job Shane has done in Columbia. I was never a "Shane guy".
By that I mean that I was never advocating for him to come here and be the head coach. And I'm still not. While there is no guarantee that he would have been as successful here, I give the man credit for what he's done as a first time head coach. I don't yearn for him to come here, but wish him well when they aren't playing the Hokies or one of my side teams.

Well said. I feel the same way, on all counts.

Moreover, the expanded CFP benefits programs like South Carolina.
It benefits Virginia Tech, too. We are just too mid right now to take advantage of it. ** Edited by Maroon Baboon at 1/24/2025, 7:02:18 PM

Yup, he could have easily fizzled out here and gotten fired, yet he's at
South Carolina having enough success to get a big raise! South Carolina is a tough place to win relative to their opponents.

Still in middle of SEC pack- unreal

exactly many fans dont realize thats the new baseline for head coaches
8 million for middle in the pack in the SEC. for other programs that's the benchmark, or be left behind

Why not come to VT. Better shot at making the CFP than at SC
if he ever wants a shot at playing in the CFP, winning the ACC is a lot easier than winning the SEC. SC will never win the SEC, will always be middle of the pack in the SEC. Also, Clemson will always be the #1 dog in the state of South Carolina even if SC beats them.

Not happening

With that line of thinking every coach should be going to the ACC and Big12
But they aren’t.

Because VT is probably 10 years away from being able to pay out HC 8 mil/yr

And at this rate that's what a top OC or DC will be making, with players
making over $10M. Sometimes I wonder where all the money comes from
YBYSAIAHokie YBYSAIAHokie
We couldn't afford him.
Article states that every SEC head coach makes well over a million a year. WOW!!!

Why cant we afford him???
H
HokieKick`nBack
He will make $8M annually
with a $100k increase each year through 2030. $8M puts him middle of the SEC pack.
