I'm saying budget constraints may
dictate that the path for having the best team consistently over time is through hiring, development and retention as opposed to going heavy portal for veteran talent every year.
Over time, assuming you can afford to retain top talent, your teams become more upperclassmen oriented. But anybody thinking Tech is going to buy it's way to a top caliber team via heavy importaling every year hasn't paid attention to Tech athletics or the current market, imo. An SEC coach says their starters get $600k this year vs $300k last year. Think we are going to outbuy them in the portal every year?

How do we know that is true?
If you get a really good, one year remaining OT, for example, you pay more than you pay for a quality redshirt fr. Next year you pay again because your guy had 1 yr eligibility. If you get a high ceiling but inexperienced player, form a good relationship and pay a more reasonable amount to keep him for three years, the incremental cost of constantly bringing in experienced guys is much higher.
How do we know VT can afford to win in '26 and reload again in '27?
It's all headed to lower numbers on rosters and salary caps. The alumni can't keep coughing up $35M annually to be in the top 25 or more to win a title. The media can't afford for only alumni of 40 universities to have interest in "college" games. So limits will be put on roster numbers so the P2 cant hog all the talent, and some kind of restrictions will come into play for salaries and NIL deals.
The question is how do you win in the interim while payments to players are still soaring? I think what we are doing seems like a reasonable approach for a school that has never had the giant donors or other alumni support of the P2 schools, Clemson, etc. We can win in the ACC with a bunch of underclassmen playing in '26 and a reasonably experienced class should have a reasonable shot at the playoffs in '27 with good culture, development and systems.

Not just Whit but
the university as a whole. Nearly always pinching pennies and 5 years behind the current environment.
Until we win and become a revenue generator for the conference they will keep undermining us.

Seeing the Va talent playing in other states
almost single handedly explains how we got so bad. I knew PSU was getting a lot of Va kids but the number going to them and other places is shocking really.

Not seeing open receivers,
leaving intact pockets, misreading options, and inaccurate passing have nothing to do with the ol.

A qb alone adds 4 wins
You can't win in college football with a guy who can't see the field or throw well.

Someone who wants to raise kids in a small town is
the best shot for longevity.
Every coach will want to go to a more stable or higher paying conference or school if they have the drive to be successful here. We aren't getting a proven p4 coach who can bring a bunch of players so hiring someone who can win in year 2 and after is the goal. Quit structuring the contracts so they will stay and structure them so that we can afford to ask them to leave since any coach we can hire is a bit of a crap shoot.

Frank could beat Miami but other than OSU didn't beat other top 10
I don't get the fanbase's wanting to rule coaches out because of their record against top 10. We need to get an identity, be competitive and look like an actual college team again. Our total revenue and NIL disadvantages will keep our talent below title contenders wrt talent so an occasional win against a top 10 may be as good as it gets.

What does the CEO position do?
Is that just football? Why wouldn't the AD oversee the funds? Hope they don't make it so bureaucratic that we can't get the money where it needs to go in time to help.

It's the 5-yr hockey stick forecast of every new product or endeavor ever..
I'm just hoping we can get the USF or Memphis coach or similar and buy an actual QB.

I watched Northwestern a bit when he was coach.
Seems they played well for the talent discrepancy they were typically on the short end of, but I think we can do better or hope so.

58. Thin depth, new systems
Not enough playmakers. Who looks like Eddie Royal, David Wilson, any of the great DBU guys, APR type dlinemen??
15% chance OC, DC, OL, Strength all improved and we have a better than expected season. Depth says don't bet on it.

There are enough instances, TCU recently, 90's VT, Clemson resurgence...
where sports exposure increased quickly. A logical regression/financial analysis should show the impact on applications number/quality or whatever other measures might logically tie and be worthwhile to a university.

FCS, our landing pad,
Will look like d2 or d3 compared to P2 or FBS as top players and coaches concentrate more into p2 for the big bucks. It's already happened, but will get worse. Ten years ago we had some possibility of beating Bama. Today it would look like varsity vs jv and will get worse. We can't buy OT's or qb's now. Some of that is just VT and how it chooses not to compete. Going forward there won't be a choice. JV it is.

We are whi we thought we are
Or just call it reality.
Tough schedule, 2 new coordinators, few playmakers, limited depth, Pry as gameday coach, mediocre qbs - what would a reasonable person predict?

Stiny and Loeffler could never
implement an effective system. Seems the O was always too complex for players to execute. Beamer's loyalty to Stiny was impressive and admirable in a way, but the cost to VT of wasting so much offensive talent still haunts us.
I like the new hires, especially under the circumstances. We are never going to man up and beat really good teams, in today's recruiting environment, with a heavy run, play action game like Bustle ran. With a fresh defensive approach and more open offense we may surprise some teams. If the O scheme attracts good qb talent, and someone can develop it, that will flip a few l's to w's each year.

Qb was an overrated position
Drones isn't accurate and both qbs were injured. Ol, lb, safety were areas we hoped would step up, but those were glaring weaknesses.
Going into '25 the same way. Brought in some players but no playmakers, no depth or both across most of the roster. Don't have a great qb, weak in the trenches and coaching is below avg - coming out not ready to play, ineffective in-game adjustments, poor qb coaching, duplicate numbers on ST multiple times, lost in clock mgt.
We need to clean house but w the big and sec paying $7M-$9M for the best coaches, what's the point when you're paying $4M and hoping a zero experience guy with zero experience coordinators will win big?
Football Board

D wins championships
We don't have playmakers or depth on the dline or at Lb.
Qb is the most important position. Drones is inaccurate and pop hasn't shown he can handle a blitz. Plus he's too small for our dual threat system. Oline is lacking talent which won't help the qb's.
Coaches can't manage in game adaptations or key decisions. They didn't plan for and are having trouble getting a DC. No home run hire is stepping into a hot seat situation. So, our coaches are below avg.
We importaled a lot but exportaled 9 who were picked up by P4 and graduated some great players like Tuten and APR.
5-7.

VT is not an attractive job.
HC on the hot seat, roster holes, not overflowing with NIL funds, 15 years of mediocrity, remote location, old school hanger oners in and around the AD to hamper managing the program, AD considering retirement... But, a first time HC who has shown little ability in game planning and execution & who will likely be gone after 2 sesasons along with a roster that will hamper high performance during those 2 years are tough hurdles.
Sorenson has a ton of NFL experience and a rep as a student of the game and workaholic. He has done well in his previous postions. The 49ers are hoping to keep him in another capacity. So, I don't see him coming here. He would be a good option though as it's either an NFL position coach or someone from a lower college division moving to P4 or a P4 position coach moving to DC. I would go with the NFL experience because all recruits are gunning for the League.

Coney, i think is his name, Jennings and Gosnell carry the 0. APR will be registered as a lethal weapon following the game. Marve will blitz but not over blitz. Goalposts will carried down main street with the turkey riding an upright.

I started in HC but through registration errors had a few
Different handles hokiefollowedby randomnumbers, which was generated by the system, hokiesmokie etc. There were some decent team and recruiting insiders along the way. A lot of following to watch the school pee away the house that Frank built instead of leveraging it to new heights.
$11M to get rid of one of the dumber hires ever. A few more mil to toss the AD who committed the crime.....i would say finance that and get pn with it but we will still be follow the pack vt. If we invented any future. Sports was not part of it.

He's thinking he will never have
This much money coming in again so, no, he is going to wrangle what he can and invest, not give 1M away.
He had to hire 0 experience because he had no hc experience. Now he's proven not to be good and will only be here 2 more years while VT counts the termination savings. Who is he going to invest in that could turn this disaster around?
I know Frank threw his assistants some money one time, but why do VT fans keep bringing up this coach benevolence idea as a cure to major problems?

Our coaches are below avg as is overall player talent.
Playing a few scrubs like Marshall and ODU will possibly get us above .500 for the year. Good teams win the 1 score games, play to potential and so on. Untalented teams lose by a score, lose to Rutgers and talk about how close games were. As of now, we have no ol, 1 good back, an avg Qb, poor game day coaches and a d that still gives up chunk plays at the worst times. I don't get the 9-3 projections.

I thought GT could get to the conference title game
They can certainly beat anybody when they play well. Had this marked as an L at start of season. So we get one due to a key player being out. Let's hope we don't lose at Cuse for the same reason.
Bottom line, our ol is not conference championship material. Our lack of deep passing is why GT shut us down running and the rest of the schedule will throw run stop wrinkles at us. And, Pry Marve or Bowen will do something inexplicable every game. We also lack depth.
With more depth and a better ol we could win out. More realistic is a 2-2 split or without Tuten we may be playing uva for bowl eligibility again.

GT 28. VT 24 T YDS 93
We can be outcoached on any game day. No info but guessing qb1 surprises w a start or comes in to rally the yellow jackets. Pry can't seem to get the squad ready unless a bowl is on the line, and we have a few possible wins left.
But mostly, the best opportunity to win the predicted outcome is to pick against the wave. Hoping we roll them, but would anyone be surprised if Marve Bowen or Pry gave them a couple of unearned scores?

What's the end game? Everyone knows we were robbed.
Why go the FSU/Clem route and tick the conference off? How does Tech register complaints about officiating after any game - not publicly. Any fan who doesn't think the AD, who is hugely vested in this staff winning games, is not bothered by being robbed by the officials and hasn't complained through the appropriate channels, hasn't thought this through, imo. I suppose if there were going to be a public or fans vote to determine who actually won the game then public statements would make sense.

It's a lack of confidence that
stems from he or the receivers or both not knowing the system. The expectations to win at a high level this year probably add to it too.
The great qbs know their offense and let it rip. The struggling ones never fully grasp what is going on or just don't handle the pressure.
Ultimately it appears to be another coaching issue - lack of qb development.

Discipline and toughness come from the top
We have neither. DC is his natural cap and doubt he does that at p5 again. But, like Fu, he won't need to.

No decent coordinators are walking into this
Unless they are here with a new head coach. Come coach for us and you have a year to produce. Will look attractive to the next Marve or Bowen but nobody else.
