Just saw an article that said SEC makes intensions clear - they want it
all. Talks of SEC leaving the NCAA. My granddaddy used to say pigs get fat, but hogs get slaughtered. Hope he proves to be prophetic.

In my book it's already happening.

Saw where the B12 was saying the SEC/B10 need spread the playoff wealth
What the B12 needs to understand is that the SEC and B10 do not give a flying F about anything but their revenue, period, end of debate. If they could add a few schools and create two super conferences and the rest of the college sports world just disappeared, they would still sleep well at night. It's every man for himself.

If the other conferences quit scheduling them, it might get their attention
If it didn't, then that's fine too. I'd be VERY content to let them have their own pro-league, and the remaining 60-70 schools can get back to college football. What we have now is a bastardized semi-pro league that has forgotten where it came from.

Wake Florist already has

I think what the SEC and B1G fail to recognize is that...
...they need the fanbases of the other 70+ teams to continue to watch their product in order for their revenues to continue to grow. If they give those fanbases the finger by excluding their teams from their super league, I expect many of those fans to return the gesture and refuse to tune in. It wouldn't happen all at once, but I expect a super league would lead to a long, slow death for the sport.

The rest of the schools would have to grow a pair and refuse to schedule...
....the superconference in any sport. Non-football and hoops sports are already being decimated. As long as the supers can make their $$$........

They would essentially create another xfl/usfl. Who watches that? The rest
of the schools can reorg a bit and play for an NCAA national championship.

Gambling it'll do better on its own than as a sum of the parts.
You could see this coming for quite some time now. Might work, might not. If it doesn't, the SEC - and the college athletics enterprise as a whole - may not recover.

I guess but then Tech suddenly becomes what used to be call division II.
Less coverage, interest, less everything.
Techsupport Techsupport
They could name that league the CFL. "College Football League".
The sooner we can get back to some version of college football, the better. ** Edited by Techsupport at 6/5/2025, 11:11:39 AM

I’m just afraid of what “some version “:will look like. I’m thinking SEC/
B10 . 30 - 40 schools and then all the rest of us fighting desperately for the leftover crumbs.

I don't think so. VT and the other 90+ schools drive on happily.

well then let's get back to winning the ACC and win the Division II MNC

Yep the P2 can be renamed the NFL D League
HokieAl HokieAl
We already have less coverage. We get pushed to ACCN a lot lately
The unfortunate fact is that VT football took a nose dive at the worst possible time. And it will be much harder now to climb back out and get that coverage, interest, and money.

You could see it coming from a mile away when SEC went strictly to ESPN/ABC
The ACC is going to get the squeeze. Best part is the ACC TV numbers will get even worse due to being on the Ocho at midnight on a Wednesday, and the next TV deal will be straight garbage. OTOH, ABC/ESPN is going to show what they know will get viewers. So plenty of blame goes to the ACC. ** Edited by reestuart at 5/30/2025, 1:18:37 PM

Let them go! Hopefully the B1X follows.
Then they can play each other, and have their own separate playoff between those two conferences.

I agree. Plenty of interest and money in the remaining FBS. I haven't
watched an SEC or B1X game in many years unless VT was playing one of em'.

You don't want that

Guess you're in the "death by 1,000 cuts" club.
It's already happening, so they might as well make it official.
reestuart reestuart
They'll also get all TV slots if it happens. Nobody wants that breakaway.
H
Hokie_N_NC
That is already the case. That's why we buy packages.....
I'm all for them leaving. I won't watch. I don't watch anything other than the ACCN or whatever is showing ACC games. I am willing to buy the VT package......
reestuart reestuart
Believe it or not, it would get worse. ACCN would be the only option,
if it even exists at that point.

The B1X gets most of the Fox slots, and the SEC gets the majority of ABC...
...and ESPN slots now. Not sure there will be much of a difference...
reestuart reestuart
ACC and Big XII still get some coverage. That would go away.

Why would the majority of the remaining FBS be so uninteresting? 80 - 90+
schools playing for a NCAA CFB Championship. ** Edited by 40ozDistrict at 5/30/2025, 9:33:47 PM
reestuart reestuart
Because nobody watches them now. If they get relegated
it gets a lot worse.
4
40ozDistrict
Well that makes me feel better. I thought you might have some valid point
reestuart reestuart
point is the non-P2 schools are barely being watched now. If there's a
breakaway, coverage of those schools will drop to next to nothing. Much like FCS is now.
4
40ozDistrict
Show me the data, lol. In my small circle of life no one watches SEC or BIG

FCS, our landing pad,
Will look like d2 or d3 compared to P2 or FBS as top players and coaches concentrate more into p2 for the big bucks. It's already happened, but will get worse. Ten years ago we had some possibility of beating Bama. Today it would look like varsity vs jv and will get worse. We can't buy OT's or qb's now. Some of that is just VT and how it chooses not to compete. Going forward there won't be a choice. JV it is.
4
40ozDistrict
as well as the other 90+ non-P2 schools? Makes no sense at all.
