PSU has commits from 4 out of top 5 VA athletes or 5 out of the top 10.
Plus a commit from #13.
VT has a commit from #20 & #22. Shame Pry can’t flip some of those players.

This happened because the only relationship that FU had was with his water bottle and any recruit he could find out of TX, where he wanted to go from day one.
This is what happens when you abandon the state for your own agenda. 🤔

You just said FU willfully abandoned VA recruits so he could begin making a name in Texas for his return to Texas. He was not successful here but that assertion is way over the top.
It is more correct to say that VA recruits had already begun abandoning VT when the handlers wouldn't even let their 757 players visit VT.

Of course we all cared alot with the VT staff, however, at the end, they frankly didnt outreach at the pace they did in 1990.s We had Hite, and others that had medical issues, that prevented them to be on the road 24 hours 7 day a week. Frankl didnt have the endurance he had in the past. But NO ONE was going to say anything. Also, it was magnified in the administration with Weaver's medical issues and Stegar's as well. So my guessing it started to slip around 2010 slowly and slowly. It was Frank's legacy that kept us even in the game right near his retirement.
THen we got Fuente. enough said.........
My only beef with recruiting evaluations right now, is the loud but small minority, that does not recognize the importance of relationship building. You just can't go in a steal a player. Those commitments have been worked for years. You can see it because Pry did it to us for Penn State, (and where did he learn that from ??? VT)....ITs going to take VT a couple of years to return to be being a trusted staff with a consistent professional program....
You hire folks with proven expertise, If VT can keep all these folks in blacksburg, with pay and benefits and opportunities, these can return pretty fast.

I do think the handlers/recruits rebuffed the FU/Scott efforts to an extent that surprised Fu. I think the reaction was to decide they could get as good of talent outside of especially 757 without putting up with the specific 757 handler crap.

The handlers agenda could/can not be adapted to by the VTs of the area because placing "their" guys in the highest profile national places was/is what builds their rep (and earnings) as the "power".
Just my observations but I feel the above was laid out to the fresh new VT staff of Fu/Scott. VT was/is seen by the 757 handlers as a place for their 2nd and 3rd level players and if they wanted any piece of 757then Fu/Scott/ VT must "stayed in the "assigned lane."
On the positive side, I think the handlers power has slipped a bit and the coaches have regained some of the power the handlers took during the last decade.
Just my observation but what I have come to believe is the stone wall VT is up against.

VT was doing very wrong rather than just who PSU is vs who VT is to the recruits and handlers. PSU was out recruiting non bluebloods long before Pry got there. If the standard is for CBP to do significantly better vs PSU for similar VA recruits then you just as well sharpen those long knives now because he will be fuenteized on here quickly.

That’s how long Pry has been a Hokie, and you expect the entire state to flip to VT suddenly? So VT has to catch up and is behind right now and will be for a year or two.
Pry also mentioned in multiple interviews how it starts at the younger ages, not 16-17-year-olds. You have to meet their coaches, HS staff, handlers, and VT alums in those schools and get to know kids at around 14 when they’re about to enter HS sports.

I can answer that question, however, based on the demands at the time the answer today would be no. No university thinking straight would hire an individual for the dual role of AD and head coach and that was why Dooley came to Blacksburg originally. VT in terms of football pedigree now and what the job can be could hire a coach from UNC now, in my opinion. That answer is predicated on two factors. One the money would have to be right and, two, VT would essentially emphasize everything they are that UNC is not, and will likely never be(i.e. football before basketball).

The location, the royal basketball program, the Jordan brand, and the new dedication to football, but Carolina is not a football blueblood. I get your point and they will be tough to recruit against. But our football tradition is better andcwe have owned their soft baby blue selves. Its a new day. Perhaps Penn or Princeton will throw a couple billion at football and win a natty.

separately, it's about the size of the national brand and the $$$$ inputs and UNC has way more and is spending way more to go along with the national brand they have. Our better football tradition doesn't do it for recruits like what UNC appears to be offering. As for owning them, all they need is a few more Virginia state 4 star guys and that owning thing can change very fast.
I still say that the big money advertisers want UNC to be a player and really don't want us in the same way.

Having watched and followed college football I have come to belief its not who can work their way to the top, it is who big media/advertisers want in the top layer. They are pretty sure they can make more money with the names and pouring money to make them winners than to promote a newbie who is earning their way.

Tech might be able to get some of these guys in the portal if they can play but cannot make the starting lineup. Jordan Williams went to Clemson but started for Tech in his final season.
My analysis of the 2012 - 2015 VA Top 25 determined that the three stars were more likely to contribute at their programs than the four stars.
While some of these guys will peak athletically in HS, a few others will flunk out or get arrested for something stupid.

in a shorter period of time (if the coaching staff gets lucky with the Portal) or a longer period of time (if the coaching staff doesn't get lucky with the Portal). Now by no means am I saying that VT should forget about HS recruits and only rely on the Portal. What I'm suggesting is that the Portal can adjust the timeframe because it giveth and taketh away. Plus, the jury may be out on whether enough of today's players are willing to wait their turn while they develop. If the coaching staff doesn't recruit enough HS recruits that are willing to subscribe to patience, then VT could see some players enter the Portal before they had a chance to even develop into their full potential.

not sure if "talent" or "willingness to buy into his system" is the word/phrase I want to use here. I say that because you could be very very very talented HS recruit (let's say Jerry Rice or Walter Payton level). However, if you are unwilling to buy into a coach's system because you have a TO-like personality (i.e. want to start as a true FR, be the primary target on 85% of all pass plays, etc.), then how helpful will you really be to a team? In that regards, I have no problem with the coaching staff passing on more "talented" players and targeting players who are more likely to completely buy into the coach's system (i.e. Dax). At least the coaches can work with those players because they are less likely to enter the Portal when things don't go their way.

bad recruiting year or two Fuente had before this last one that was actually pretty decent and probably would have helped to save his job if we hadn’t crapped the bed so badly down the stretch.
I’m thinking no bump relative to last years class immediately this class but I think Pry’s relationship building will eventually pay off to a decent uptick but nothing truly head turning.
