ACC ADs tell ACC commissioner: "We're all in this together."
That mantra didn't exactly pan out as reality with COVID, and I don't expect the same to happen with conference affiliation.

What we need, is two super conferences. One North, one South. (T.I.C.)

No way ACC can compete at a $40M / year / school deficit!

But I’m not optimistic it will work out long term - the contract until 2036 is killing this league and some will bolt as soon as they get a chance The move to placate Clemson and FSU and others with a different distribution deal is a bandsid that does not create a stronger league.I hope they figure something out

Yes, they have a deal until 2036, but it seems likely that that deal is gonna get busted out before that and they will be left with squat if it does. Keep in mind though, if you think they don't have some sway over the SEC on raiding the ACC, you are kidding yourself.
I think you all that are talking about the Big10 are kidding yourselves. The Big10 needs to expand west, the logistics of 2 LA teams is going to bust travel budgets, plus after a couple years of new wears off, no one is going to give a rats butt about UCLA vs NW or IN or Perdue or .... They need those rivalries for long term interest. OR/Wash/Stanford/Cal makes a nice west coast division and makes the "big10 is an academic conference" morons on their high horse.
The question is, does pulling 4 from the ACC to the SEC make ESPN more $$ than keeping the ACC in tact and what is the price point for that (how much more can they pay the ACC until that metric turns sour). At any cost that the ACC has more value, they will be willing to sweeten the existing deal to keep it together, if not, they'll help the SEC expand and let the ACC deal go away.

anything can be done about it nor was there a creditable way the ACC could have ever done anything about it. I will say it again, a big part of all of this is a move by the advertisers and media to get rid of the power in the leagues and whatever the NCAA has left. Unfortunately for them 2 leagues were too strong and media/advertisers had to adjust but they still rather spend the vast majority of their money through 2 leagues rather than 5. And not just reducing from 5 to 2 but also drastically reducing current G5 levels of funding.
Simply put, there is no evidence the money cares a bit about the ACC or the Big 12 or the PAC and it seems they would rather
those leagues go away along with most of the teams within them.

SEC. I don't think college football fans are that elastic. Maybe I underestimate the ratio between people who like college football and people who like their school.

then they're going to cut the overall audience by a large margin. Fans of smaller schools just aren't going to give up and adopt an SEC team like ESPN wants. The ONLY reason I care about college football at all is VT is involved. As far as sports leagues go, NCAA football is hands down the worst in the country. No parity, no coherence, laughable playoff structure, special treatment for big programs, etc. If VT gets relegated to G5 status (so to speak) then I'll happily check-out of the sport entirely.

more than any poaching individual teams. They can both then pick at the bones of the Big12. Fox conference and ESPN conference. Boom, the P5/G5 BS goes away, all the big schools that have invested state money stay on the revenue train so the state governments and congress critters don't decide to "fix" things. And you don't lose the interest of 50% of college sports fans who are already on the fence and if their team ends up in the Big12 are going to kick college sports onto the same pay no mind list that he kicked the NBA 30 years ago and the NFL a decade ago (yeah that's me, but I bet there are a lot like me out there).

but I won't sit around all day watching college football teams that VT isn't ever going to play - even if it is better played football. I remember looking forward to watching teams like Nebraska or anOSU on TV the year before we played them - when rosters were more stable - to get an idea of what we would face the next year. That aspect of my CFB fandom is quickly shrinking - I won't be a fan of P2 - unless VT is involved.
Now, I would likely watch the CFB championship - like I usually watch the Super Bowl - as a social event without really a dog in the fight.

Take enough money from the bottom teams until they can be convinced they’d be better off in another conference. Few more votes and GOR may dissolve, worst case more money for the top teams. Win-win for them.

We have four schools that can’t pull their weight in football.
Syracuse
BC
Wake
Duke
Those four schools are dead weight from a revenue standpoint. There’s no escaping that fact.

Will this reorganization result in a football only split or is it just the 1st step in a new all sports division controlled by the media? If BB and non revs are also within the master plan then taking athletics at a whole, at least 2 and maybe 3 of the above teams are in and in ahead of VT.
I don't believe that big money is looking at just football but a year long stream of supposedly college sports.

The number of teams that would have the athletic budgets destroyed by losing big time football money would impact their ability to support non-revenue sports, most of which are women's sports.

decade (Highest in the B12 is #9). I suspect that the regular season TV is an order of magnitude larger than bowl payouts. Even then, I'm not sure bowl payouts are a great argument for the school which until a couple of years ago had the longest active streak...
Are there any business schools in the B12?

Current big12 members have won 5 times combined in the same time frame.
Virginia Tech has been to 6 BCS bowls.
They are 25th all time in wins. Only a few behind WVU which leads the Big12 schools.
We would lead the Big12 in attendance by far.
Why even come to this board and try to talk trash?

And good history. And Cuse and Duke are hoops kings, which still adds value to the contracts.
Wake and BC zippy.
But all that said, ACC has good schools and good markets, just a really bad longterm deal that isn't market. They would be way ahead of the pac12 and Big12 if the deal was negotiated today

It's negotiated in advance in accordance with the conference tie-ins of who might be available. (Granted, Syracuse is uniquely valuable to Pinstripe, like VT is uniquely valuable to say the Military Bowl).
This one year of data is not the argument you think it is.

Than all of Syracuse's NCAA appearances for the ACC.
During that time Virginia Tech has won the ACC basketball tournament as well while Syracuse has not.
VT appeared in 7 tournaments for the ACC to Syracuse's 6.
Virginia Tech has been in 17 bowl games for the ACC while Syracuse and Duke combined for 10.

It won't be long before the market for Virginia Tech football tickets no longer exists and our value as a television property plummets o depths not worth mentioning.
